Space is more than a gimmick, space is unknown enough to not be considered a gimmick at all, space has eons of infinite possibilities that all those possibilities end in eternity, I'm astonished Nintendo never gave Mario & the gang a rocket to explore the solar system, who knows I can definitely see Mario shaking hands with people from each planet/world.
