Their sound is very dense and currently nobody can beat them (dense is different from heavy). Multiple layers in their songs are very demanding. Their sound got even better after 2002. Aural environment of their songs is one of the best I know. Even a softer song like 'The Throne' (2015) has an impressive sound - there are many instruments and vocal layers but you can still hear everything clearly.
