Top Ten Bands that are Both Good and Overrated

The Top Ten
1 Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin was an English hard rock band formed in London in 1968 as the New Yardbirds. The group consisted of Robert Plant (Vocal), Jimmy Page (Guitar), John Paul Jones (Bass, Keyboard) and John Bonham (Drums) and was very much the child of Jimmy Page who even financed their first tour. He had tasted some previous success with The [original] Yardbirds and was friendly with some big names in rock. Page states it was Keith Moon of The Who that claimed the band could only go down, like a lead balloon -- thus prompting the iconic name of Led Zeppelin. The band's heavy, guitar-driven sound, rooted in blues and psychedelia on their early albums, has earned them recognition as one of the progenitors ...read more.

I like they first and second album ( don't care if there are lot of covers on it, their cover versions are pretty good and very refreshing ). After that ( in my opinion ) it went downwards ( still good but not that good at the same time ) for the next three albums. After their fifth album it became boring ( even in concert ) and that's also when this band became very overrated. Why? Because the freshness, the sound, rawness etc... became mainstream. And we all know that it is the mainstream-music buying public who're overrating their favorite band. Jimmy Page? Great guitarist ( nevertheless also very overrated ) but also a very arrogant stuck-up person. He did claim that he was the main guitarist at the recording sessions in the sixties for The Who, The Kinks, Them etc... when he became famous. Researchs and claims of Pete Townsend, Ray and Dave Davies and many others all said that he was lying, that he wants to take credits for things that are not true ( he was at the sessions but ...more

Led Zeppelin is overrated, but their songs are good. Even if these are plagiarized

Yes, definitely #1. It became clear that they weren't even that good - I mean, all their multiple ripoffs. So the gap between their quality and worship they get widens, i.e. they are even more overrated than people imagine.

I like their music. I just don't like how they made some of their music.

2 Queen Queen are an English rock band formed in London in 1970. The original lineup was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar, vocals). Before forming into Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor had played together in a band ...read more.

Compared to the other rock bands of the 70s and 80s Queen are even underrated - they were actually more innovative and creative than some more popular bands. Queen songs were more complex and difficult, and Queen even created the first thrash metal song (Stone Cold Crazy).

Queen is NOT overrated! If they have good songs and heaps of people like them, that doesn't mean there overrated.

Way overrated, too much overpraised, and totally overplayed.

Queen is the very definition of over-rated.

3 AC/DC AC/DC are a Australian hard rock band, formed in November 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, who continued as members until Malcolm's illness and departure in 2014 . They were fronted by Bon Scott until his untimely death due to alcohol poisoning in 1979, after which they hired Brian Johnson to front the band. Commonly referred to as a hard rock or blues rock band.

To me it's the nr. 2 after Led Zeppelin. All of their songs sounds the same.

Wasn't they here? many people claim they are one of the best metal bands. while they aren't

4 Nirvana Nirvana was an American grunge band that was formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. Nirvana disbanded after Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994. The drummer of the band, David Grohl, went on to start the Foo-Fighters, an alternative rock band. ...read more.

Alice and Chains and Soundgarden are both light years ahead of Nirvana in terms of creativity, lyrics and riffs. Most Nirvana fans are rather annoying in that they claim to love them but only know one song (we all know the one). At least AIC and SG fans can actually name several songs by each band.

They're a good grunge band but Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam are better.

"Good & Overrated" not just plain overrated. Nirvana doesn't qualify.

Cool but too loud for my ears. Good & Overrated - Yep!

5 The Beatles The Beatles were an English pop rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were soon known as the foremost and most influential act of rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat, and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later ...read more.

Hendrix's music is simple to play? tons of 14 year olds can do it? Where are they? I would like to see if at concert they will be able to play 30 minutes solos in improvisation style like Hendrix did. That's certainly not like stupid Bill Clinton once said : " It's (only) in the writing ". As for The Beatles, they didn't do in improvisation but to compose ( or writing as you called it ) " IS " to invent music that wasn't there, the abillity to play a new sound in music and not the abillity to copy a existing sound in music. And both Hendrix and The Beatles were unique in inventing " their " sounds and play them. It's not only in the playing what makes people like Hendrix and The Beatles overrated but good ( in fact your statement ), it's more simple, they're NOT overrated and they're good ( in playing and writing ).

They are the biggest selling music artist of all time, i.e. the average music fan rates them 10/10 and pays for their songs as if they are 10/10. Is their stuff for 10/10 though? Not sure - their songs are pretty simple and not difficult to play but even their best solo is played by Eric Clapton who isn't a band member. Is their drummer the best drummer of all time? No. Are their singers the best singers of all time? No...Well, you got the idea - they are good but not that good, i.e. very overrated.

Hendrix 's music is simple and easy to play, tons of 14 year olds can do it, but to quote Joe Satriani, "I know exactly what Hendrix did, but I have NO IDEA how he thought of it". Same with the Beatles, tons of people can play their music, and untold thousands have tried to follow their path into the pop/rock history, and have mostly failed, or simply pale by comparison. To paraphrase Bill Clinton: "It's the writing, stupid".

Excellent but overrated.

6 Metallica Metallica is an American Heavy/Thrash Metal band formed in 1981. Kill Em All up to (and including) And Justice For All are great. Black Album, Death Magnetic and HOPEFULLY Hardwired are decent. But no band that has released anything as awful as St. Anger should ever be crowned the greatest metal band ever. Then again Iron Maiden did release the godawful Virtual XI...

Most overrated metal band of all time. Still good though.

Only good, not overrated. come on! Metallica is one of the best metal bands.

More than half of their albums have gone gold or platinum, as certified by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association Of America).
