Addition to my first comment: when a band plays different subgenres, it's more difficult to say what they are. My Chemical Romance have mostly alt rock songs but also punk-based songs. - Metal_Treasure

This is an interesting case - I wouldn't say they are metal, alternative or not. But alternative rock - yes. I don't trust wiki very much when it comes to metal subgenres but I would agree with wiki on the genres played by My Chemical Romance - alternative rock, emo, pop punk, post-hardcore, punk rock.
No metal among them. But BoredJeff02 correctly identified the "alternative" nature of the majority of their songs. - Metal_Treasure
