Best Atari 2600 Games of All Time

For those of us old enough to remember the Atari, it is undeniable that this game system was the greatest of all time by the virtue of it being the original. I'm sure all of you reading this poured countless hours of your free time down this time sink, and might have even played hooky from school a time or three to play your newest "cartridge" all day.
The Top Ten
1 Space Invaders

This is the one that started it all. The godfather of all in home video games.

What an absolute classic! Love it!

2 Adventure

Absolutely the best! Played this way more than any of my other 2600 games. I remember my brother and I discovering the hidden dot in the maze and trying to figure out what its purpose was... and then eventually we found the easter egg! Thanks, Warren Robinett! Awesome memories!

This was the game that taught me how to become an adventurer while playing in front of my T.V. and left me with undying love for all adventurey/RPG-y for my gaming choices.

I spent hours and hours trying to take the trophy to the golden castle. A marvelous and simple game.

3 Pacman

Why do people hate Pac-Man for the Atari? It's an Atari game so cut it some slack. Granted, it's not as good as the arcade port but when I want to play my Atari, Pac-Man is usually the first game I play. Pac-Man Atari is one of the most underrated games I've played (it's up there with sonic 06, twilight princess and, Banjo-Kazooie nuts & bolts). I'm really happy to see that this is the top 10. While I'm sure lots of you aren't going to agree with me, I'm sure we can all agree...E.T. sucks.

4 Pong
5 Asteroids
6 Frogger
7 Pitfall

I don't know why, but I loved this game so much. When I was six, I played this. That was only in 2006. I know, how lame were we, no Xbox or anything. Well, this was my fave, nonetheless. Search this on YouTube, and tell me if it can make you laugh. When I heard it, I thought of this game first thing:

The Pit-Mouse Rat

Great game for a classic system.

8 Joust
9 Combat
10 River Raid

Another classic from Activision.

The Contenders
11 Missile Command

Even with having to use the joystick over the track ball, this game was hours and hours of fun.

12 E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

For a game made in less than 2 months by only ONE guy, this turned out pretty amazing, especially if you compare it to something like Golf, or Custer's Revenge.

The only way to even understand this game is to read the instruction manual. And nobody did, they just blindingly played the game without knowing what any of the top icons do.

It's so bad it's good. So everyone, it's a bad game but it's good. Give it a chance. Well maybe not but you know. I don't have it but I kinda like it. Its underrated.

It has two good things about it.
1. It teaches people how to not make a video game.
2. The Video Game Crash of 1983 caused Nintendo to end it,which allowed other future Nintendo games to be made.

13 Pitfall II
14 Mrs. Pac-man
15 HERO

The only reason this isn't higher is most have never played it! Quite an experience for those days especially!

Probably my favorite 2600 game. I've found that(for the most part) the more complex 2600 games are the best ones.

16 Enduro

This was a brilliant racing game, especially for the time.

17 Superman

Hours and hours spent on this one.

18 Kaboom!
19 Star Wars

It was short and simple, but was a fantastic port of the arcade game and ended up very addictive. As the commercial says: "SOME GAME! "

The best game I have ever played for the Atari.

20 Yar's Revenge

I'm clearly addicted to this game. Too bad they made it like Bomberman: Act Zero for the Xbox sequel.

The funny part about this is the fact that it was made by the same guy who made E.T.

The absolute BEST game for the Atari 2600, without question.

21 Donkey Kong
22 Xenophobe
23 Warlords
24 Jungle Hunt

This is the best Atari game ever!
