Why L'Arc~en~Ciel is Not On the List of Best Bands With Colorful Names

admin After deleting the exact same submission half a dozen times and counting, we want to point out a simple semantic truth; rainbow is not a color. A rainbow is a colorful thing. There is a difference.

So to the folks who seem to be getting upset that L'Arc~en~Ciel ("The rainbow") still has not been approved for the list of Best Bands with Colorful Names, please note that your submission is not being rejected because we have anything against L'Arc~en~Ciel. It is simply being rejected because the list description states "The top ten bands with a color in the band name" and as stated above, rainbow is not a color.

Something that seems so much like common sense has a nasty habit of being misunderstood. One of the funnier and more to-the-point blogs, hopefully all L’Arc~en~Ciel will finally understand.

"The Rainbow" doesn't specify an actual color, didn't anyone notice a trend in the accepted names? - Christian.H.Mills

Then you should rename the list and name it "Best bands with a color in their name", just like the one with the numbers.
Other way it's like having a list named "Best male singers" and then saying in the description "Best singers from pop bands" or something like that.
'Cos you can't deny a Rainbow's damn colorful XD - visitor

According to my dictionary, "colorful" = "full of colors"... Is there anything more full of colors than a Rainbow, by hide-sama's sake?! - visitor

my bad. let's be specific! Say give us "Ten best Bands with Colors in their Names" instead of "Best bands with Colourful Names" because really, a rainbow is nothing short of colourful. I may be a fan of L'Arc~en~Ciel but I have to say thay are not to be disqualified in this category because your semantics are waaaay unspecific. - visitor

Should we create a new list with "Really colorful named bands" then? - visitor

'"The Rainbow" doesn't specify an actual color, didn't anyone notice a trend in the accepted names?'

Yeah, we did. But, to ask back: didn't anyone READ the title of the list? - visitor

5 dissenting comments and multiple new add attempts later, I get the impression that I didn’t do a good job of explaining why L’Arc~en~Ciel is not, and will not, be placed on this list. So I’ll try again.

People continue to point out that a rainbow is a colorful thing. I agree. But that is not the issue.

When you look at the phrase “Best Bands with Colorful Names”, the word “Colorful” is an adjective that modifies the noun “Names”. As such, it is the name of the band that needs to be colorful. In the case of the name L’Arc~en~Ciel, the thing that is colorful is the rainbow, not the name of the band. There is a degree of separation that needs to be accounted for.

Allowing L’Arc~en~Ciel on this list by the logic presented in the comments would also mean that bands such as Iron Butterfly, The Chameleons, and Prince and The Revolution would all have to be on the list “Cos you can’t deny” that butterflies, chameleons, and Prince are very colorful things. - admin

Then change the list name and let us create a new list!
And, btw, L'Arc is the name of the band, not just a thing. - visitor

While rainbow of course is not a color, "ciel" in French means not only "sky", but also "sky blue color", so there is a perfect reason to add L'Arc~en~Ciel to the list. - aleksz

The one who made that list is a very biased person they don't include the name of larc there. A rainbow consist of 7 colors. Are you blind? And a rainbow is a very colorful name or are you simple minded on that matter? - ronluna

L'Arc en Ciel is so colourful anytime,anywhere,any...anything..!!!
are you blind,punk??
they're rainbow..!!
oh..jesus..!!
