The Princess and the Frog Movie Review

MegaSoulhero The last film that Ron and John made before Moana was the Princess and the Frog! I wanna say it was the last Disney film to be animated in 2D animation, but it wasn't. That would be Winnie the Pooh. But this was definitely the last princess film to be 2D animated!

The Princess and the Frog is about a girl named Tiana who wants to own a restaurant. There's a prince named Naveen who comes into town and meets the movie's antagonist, the Shadow Man, who tricks Naveen and turns him into a frog. Since the only way he can become human again is by kissing a princess, he finds Tiana. They kiss but since Tiana isn't a real princess, she turns into a frog too. I must say, this is a very underrated movie! It's great to see an African American Disney princess for once! And they really did her justice! She's very smart, brave, tough, pretty, and hard-working! It's everything you could ask for in a Disney princess! Of course, she's no Mulan but still. I also find her relationship with Naveen to be believable! They don't exactly see eye to eye when they meet each other, but as they go on this big adventure together, and they start to really like each other! And this has become a formula in some newer Disney films now. The villain is absolutely awesome! Facilier is very manipulative and energetic! He also gets a really cool song! Tiana's friend, Charlotte, I cute but I also find her kind of annoying. We also have an alligator that can play the trumpet and a firefly that has a crush on a star. Both are really great and funny characters!

My main problem with the film is that it could get a little complicated at times. I sometimes had a hard time following the story. It was really confusing. There's also some humor that works and some that don't. But other than those nitpicks, I really like this movie! I feel like this was the movie that kind of saved Disney. For the past few years before this movie came out, Disney movies weren't doing so well. They were either financial failures or critical failures. Ron and John's last couple of films were pretty disappointing. Treasure Planet was ok but didn't feel much like a Disney movie. And Hercules I could definitely do without! Princess and the Frog wasn't exactly a financial success but this was still a very good movie!

I consider this to be one of the most underrated Disney films of all time! Aside from the story being a little complicated, this movie has very likeable characters, great songs, and it's very relatable! I don't understand why a lot of people don't seem to talk about this movie that much! It is really good! Anyway, I've finally finished reviewing all of the Clements and Musker films! Oh wait! There's still one more!

Score: 8/10
