Best European Bands

The Top Ten
1 HIM HIM was a Finnish gothic rock band from Helsinki, Finland. Formed in 1991 by vocalist Ville Valo and bassist Mikko "Mige" Paananen under the name His Infernal Majesty, the band broke up in 1993, before being reformed in 1995 by Valo and guitarist Mikko "Linde" Lindström.

This band represents a wide range of musical influences and genres and is in no way defined by one genre only. That's one of the most beautiful characteristics about HIM, they sing in all colors and still manage to deliver their sound beautifully with their signature romantic sense. Ville, the vocalist, is a lyrical genius and never fails to keep up with the modern dark poet lyrical style, whether drunk or sober. Together, with Mige, the funny bassist, Burton, the handsome keyboardist, Linde, the introverted cute guitarist and Gas, the adorable drummer, they put on so much effort and talent to produce pieces of arts that never die with time. Add to all that the fact that they are truly amazing with their fans, which is something that most artists miss nowadays. HIM are really underrated in a world full of posers who claim they know everything about music and call HIM 'wannabes', because HIM deliver artistic music in all its colors, which is their specialty, unlike limited bands ...more

My opinion? That HIM are honestly the best European band. They opened the gateway up to other Finnish bands, being the first band to reach Gold Status in the United States. And that was with an early album! Ville, amazing vocals and lyrics. Linde, amazing guitar solos and rifts. Mige, possibly the greatest bassist. Burton, amazing synth and piano from that genius. And Gas, giving the wonderful beats that make you want to tap your feet to the music from the start. There's no reason why they shouldn't win. C:

HIM is an awesome band. They have the greatest live shows. I love the fact that they are willing to evolve with their sound as a band and add remarkable lyrical content for their listeners. They are a unique band by not only sing about love, heartache and the loss of love but also infusing it with hard and heavy rock background. -Ava @InvadersAsylum

HIM absolutely make the best music I've ever heard to... I love every single song they made in the same way: they are all beautiful, full of meaning and passion. Ville Valo has the most sensual male voice I've ever listened, and he is able to make you feel every single sensation he sings. HIM are definitely the best European band! :D (sorry for my bad English)

4 Nephew

Nephew is just awesome.

Here's a recipe for what their sound is like.

One cup of Depeche Mode
A half a teaspoon of Franz Ferdinand
Two cups of the Danish language

And that's the awesome recipe for this awesome band.

A really damn good Danish band! I love them, really recommended for those who like foreign language songs. Kind of a heavy rock sound mixed with techno :D

Who r they... Don't even know em..

5 Kashmir

One of the most consistently excellent Scandinavian bands of late. They have at least five really good albums. They also have a good twenty to twenty five great stand-alone songs.

6 Poets of the Fall Poets of the Fall is a Finnish rock band from Helsinki. The group consists of Marko Saaresto, Olli Tukiainen, Markus "Captain" Kaarlonen, Jani Snellman, Jaska Mäkinen, and Jari Salminen.

This is my favorite band ever, not just in Europe, but the entire world - and I'm American, by the way! Their music is impeccably produced, entirely by the band and their independent label. It's difficult to express how deeply their music has touched me over the years, since I first discovered them in 2009. They are all incredible musicians, but together they have created something you simply don't hear these days. Their sound incorporates elements from many different genres, but is still completely unique to anything I have ever heard before. Their music is memorable and will stay with you forever. It was a blessing to have discovered them, and I feel bad for those who will probably never have the opportunity to hear their music simply because they are not well known in the US. Hopefully we can change that though!

The only word that describes them is, "MAGNIFICENT"! A great band, with a great lineup! Marko, with excellent and diverse vocals, Olli and Jaska, with a unique and impressive guitar work, Captain, with pleasing and rhythmic keyboards, Jani, with great bass work and jari, with awesome drum work! Overall, this band is simply excellent! All of their songs are unique, inspiring and creative! Songs like carnival of rust, cradled in love, late goodbye, lift, diamonds for tears and maybe tomorrow is a better day, have a special place in my heart! The songs are simply great! They deserve much more than the limelight they get! It's a knows fact, that they are the most underrated band is rock history! So let us all make an effort to make the people realise, that POTF is not just great, they are, THE BEST!

Poets of the fall is definitely one of the best bands out there, if not the very best. They're definitely underrated. Each song has inner meaning, and poetry-like lyrics. I went to one of their concerts and was absolutely mesmerized... They should win, HANDS DOWN! Much better than Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown and Lil Wayne, and the other asses who call themselves musicians.

OHH YES! Finally the band in #1 for which the place #1 is created..! The deserved place for the deserved band! Have nothing new to say about them. I only want to say that.. Poets of the fall is such a band for which the 'Perfect Compliment' is yet to be Discovered!.. The 'best BAND' ever in the Whole Universe...! & We feel PROUD to be the fan of them!

7 Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin was an English hard rock band formed in London in 1968 as the New Yardbirds. The group consisted of Robert Plant (Vocal), Jimmy Page (Guitar), John Paul Jones (Bass, Keyboard) and John Bonham (Drums) and was very much the child of Jimmy Page who even financed their first tour. He had tasted some previous success with The [original] Yardbirds and was friendly with some big names in rock. Page states it was Keith Moon of The Who that claimed the band could only go down, like a lead balloon -- thus prompting the iconic name of Led Zeppelin. The band's heavy, guitar-driven sound, rooted in blues and psychedelia on their early albums, has earned them recognition as one of the progenitors ...read more.

For me Iron Maiden is'nt just the best European band it is the best of all... This is the most inspiring band of all time... Though heavy metal was pioneered by Black Sabbath but Iron Maiden overtook them as the best...

Iron Maiden are just the greatest European band of all time!

Few can match their power, awe and excellence on stage, and they are the best band when it comes to live performances.

Best european band ever!

18 Scorpions Scorpions are a German rock band formed in 1965 in Hanover by Rudolf Schenker. Since the band's inception, its musical style has ranged from hard rock to heavy metal.

Wow a little underrated if you tell me. Everyone needs to dig a little deeper other than wind of change or still loving you. Songs like we'll burn the sky and zoo are really good songs that aren't so well-known; however, I do want to say that Uli Roth should've stayed longer with them and they'd definitely be up there with the giants.

The nearly 5 decade of carrier, and the 80-100 000 000 sold record says everything! HIM is the MOST POPULAR OF ALL TIME? Ridiculous! If HIM is the first, then the Europe should be the second... The final countdown was a bigger hit, than any song from HIM. To be honest I know a quiet few songs from HIM, but I remember only one hit... Maybe join me in death...

With "winds of change", the band's song should rate #1 of all the times. Thank you.

22 Europe Europe is a Swedish rock band formed in Upplands Väsby, Stockholm in 1979 under the name Force by vocalist Joey Tempest, guitarist John Norum, bassist Peter Olsson and drummer Tony Reno.

Europe is one of the absolute best bands to ever come out of the 80s. They are the definitive Arena Rock band. The point is, when you put on The Final Countdown album, you feel like everything is gonna be awesome.

Europe has got the awesome guitar riffs in songs like The Final Countdown combined with a great vocalist aka Joey Tempest.

25 ABBA ABBA are a Swedish pop group formed in Stockholm in 1972 by members Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad.

This band was amazingly popular in the 70s, and has stood the test of time very well. The broadway play, Mamma Mia! Has had huge success, as well as their greatest hits album, ABBA GOLD. In fact, ABBA GOLD has become the second best selling album in the UK, more popular there than even The Beatles. If this list is ranking popularity in Europe and not the US, than ABBA should very well be high up on it. They were not very big in the US, because they were focused primarily on countries in Europe and even Australia. ABBA is, in my opinion, the best of European music.

They are my favourite music group ever! Their songs are well made and combination of the Agnetha and Frida's voice is just amazing! They should be in the top 10!

In just 8 years from 1974 to 1982, ABBA achieved what others got in two or three decades. They made us smile, laugh and cry... and they still do that!

ABBA are really good. Definitely the best group from outside of the UK. There music is so catchy and melodic. Certainly on a par with the Beatles. Brilliant!
