Top 10 Best Foo Fighters Songs

The Top Ten
1 Everlong

Others share this sentiment, but I can't stress enough how much this song is not only my favorite Foo Fighters song, but also my favorite song from the 20th century, as well as my third favorite song of all time.

I wouldn't just call this Foo Fighters' best song. I'd call this the best rock song of the 20th century. I feel like this is the face of the '90s, just so iconic.

This song is the face of Foo Fighters, the face of Grohl, and everything Foo Fighters stands for.

When this song came out in 1997, Foo Fighters transformed from a tadpole to a full-grown frog. Written in 1997, if you listen to it today, I could swear Dave wrote it yesterday. I believe it carries the most value. I don't know where I am going with this to make you understand what I am trying to say. It's like the Foo Fighters badge. There, I said it.

2 The Pretender

This song feels powerful in every sense of the word. The instrumentation is amazing, and the chorus is not only catchy but creatively used as the backdrop for other vocals towards the end! It's mixed beautifully, and I have not seen anything like it in another song.

I can't decide between "The Pretender" and "Best of You" for this spot on the list, so I just put "The Pretender" first. Personally, there is a tie between the two. This is a more hard rock song that starts out slow, quiet, and amazing. Then it suddenly turns into a rock anthem with the hardcore power chords at the perfect times. Then it briefly goes back to the initial sound and builds up the awesomeness of the next rocking refrain that finishes it up.

3 Best of You

I love the Foo Fighters and especially love Best of You, The Pretender, and Walk. Overall, I think Best of You is the best Foo Fighters song. The reason is that Dave is just screaming his heart out about what the song is really about: someone getting the best of you.

I have been waiting for so long, listening to all the Foo Fighters songs to vote for my favorite one. Finally, I have found a song I can't get out of my head. This song, my God, has got to be one of the best modern rock songs Foo Fighters have ever made. It has a really good melody. I am so in love with it. It really does give off a positive and happy vibe. It definitely deserves to be higher than the top 3 spot.

4 Learn to Fly

This is a classic rock and hard rock mixture of pure awesomeness. An incredible song with a more meaningful and melodic feel to it. The simple solos put an emphasis on the simple but amazing sound of this beautiful song. My personal favorite song of all time is by the Foo Fighters.

I believe that this song is about the overdose and near-death of the band's drummer, Taylor Hawkins, which only adds more meaning to the song. It's also a song in the game "Rock Band."

I love Foo Fighters and absolutely adore this song. Foo Fighters and Dave, in particular, are just genius, and I don't know what modern music would look like without their contributions.

"Learn to Fly" is a favorite because of a personal connection I feel to the lyrics. Choosing favorites among Foo Fighters songs just doesn't feel right, though. Anyone agree?

5 My Hero

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" "Aim for the Bushes" is the greatest song ever written. It just goes to show that heroes don't have to be sports stars or movie stars. They can be ordinary people. This song makes me very emotional when I hear it. It is utterly absurd that this song ranks so low, as it is simply delectable.

This song is better than Everlong for this main reason: while Dave Grohl never explained the song's deeper meaning, he did for My Hero. My Hero does not talk about Kurt Cobain but about the heroes we see in our everyday life - not superheroes or sports heroes, but random people like good friends, family, and anyone else.

6 Walk

From the newer album "Wasting Light," "Walk" is yet another meaningful song without too much hardcore to cover up the meaning. It starts off melodic and perfect, then turns more rock-oriented, but not too much. The Foo Fighters outdid themselves with this song, making it my personal favorite from "Wasting Light."

Best-ever Foos song? Now that is a tough question! They're a superb band, incredible musicians, but for me, this song is just the ultimate. The gentle guitar intro builds up to the full-on thrashing of drums and guitar, and the Grohl growl. Massive Foos fan, but Wasting Light is my favorite album of all.

7 Monkey Wrench

Even without looking up the meaning behind the song, it's clear just by listening how emotionally charged it is. The bit at the end (One last thing before I quit-) showcases as much, and once again, this song really packs a punch.

Everlong and Monkey Wrench are easily the top two songs by Foo Fighters. This album really showcased the development of Dave Grohl as an artist, after gaining confidence from the success of the first album, which sounded (and I don't mean this as an insult) a little like Nirvana-Lite.

8 All My Life

Foo Fighters are incomplete without All My Life. It perfectly merges the quiet verse into the loud chorus formula that they do so well. The riff is catchy, and it's explosive and begging to be chanted by tens-of-thousands-strong crowds! Need I say more?

Incredible song! It's so catchy, and I love the vocal range. It always gives me chills when Dave takes his voice way down low and then starts screaming. The guitar that kicks in at one point is amazing. Listen to it!

Amazing song by a unique band!
Awesome to play on guitar.
All My Life.

The preserve is probably the best part.

9 Times Like These

This defines the Foo Fighters. It should be way higher than Wheels. Monkey Wrench and Walk should be higher. Everlong is good but overrated. This or The Pretender should be number one. Otherwise, this is a good list.

I love this song. It always brings a smile to my face whether I am sad or happy. The Foo Fighters have a great collection of songs. They are probably the best live band right now. Love them.

Nice, soft song from the Foo Fighters, easy to remember because of the great lyrics. Aurora deserves a lot more recognition, though. It's as good as this, if not better.

10 Rope

The delay at the beginning is awesome! The combined vocals between Taylor and Dave make this song number one for sure. The solo is awesome too! It's the new single and the best song of the band. Please rate this.

I love this song. In my opinion, it's the best song off the new album. From the reverb on the guitar at the beginning all the way up until the drum solo near the end. I love playing along to this song. Great bass line, great riffs, and awesome drumming.

Rope is the best rock song in the past 10 years. I am concerned that a lot of recent Foo music has Grohl snarling and yelling. I would prefer a bit more melody and less Metallica.

The Contenders
11 Big Me

Originally recorded entirely by Dave Grohl! He played every damn instrument on it! How is it not higher? Also, a big shout-out to the Foo Fighters' videos, which are hilarious.

Big Me was the very first song I heard from Foo Fighters. I loved it from day one, and the video is super funny - Foo Fighters style.

This is the Foo's first big hit, and it's in the top ten on every other list. I'm not a huge fan, but I am surprised to see it this low.

12 I'll Stick Around

Great song. This was when Foo Fighters still had some Nirvana in them (Dave wrote this song while drumming for the grunge band) and when their music was a lot louder and rockier. I love Wheels, This Is a Call, Monkey Wrench, and The Pretender as well.

Why isn't this song in the top 5? It has an intense set of lyrics and one of the best guitar riffs, bar none.

I love this song, and you hardly ever hear it. Love the lyrics and energy.

13 Long Road to Ruin

This is my favorite Foo Fighters song. Listening to it makes me feel like I'm in someplace else, someplace magical. I always picture a beautiful scenery: an actual paved road, old and dusty. Above it is the night sky. There is no civilization around, so the only light comes from millions of sparkling stars and a couple of old-fashioned street lights lining the road. Wide and endless fields stretch for miles on its right and left-hand sides. A single giant willow tree growing in one of the fields breaks the uniformity of the land.

Underneath this tree, I imagine me and my sweetheart parking our car and making love between the wheat ears, with the stars looking down on us. The reason why I'm sharing this probably pretty boring 'fantasy' is that I think every great song should have the ability to project wonderful images and/or ideas into your head, which inspire you and make you realize once again what an amazing thing life is.
I wish all you Foo Fighters fans a nice day.

14 Bridge Burning

The opening to the song is amazing! It could be used for a basketball hype video! The album this comes off of is probably the best of their albums yet!

Everything about this song is epic. It has fantastic build and a great payoff. This should be in the top ten. It beats half the songs on there anyway.

All My Life and Times Like These are Grohl's worst songs. They are too repetitive and poorly written. He was also in a stage when he didn't know when to end a song. There's no way it's better than this.

15 Wheels

Their Greatest Hits album was the first I bought. At the time, I was about 12, so to successfully buy my first CD by myself was special. Little did I know that they would become my favorite band of all time and this song would stay with me until even today. The intro excites me beyond belief. The lyrics speak to me more than any other song they have. Hell, maybe it speaks to me more than any song I've heard. I am so glad they were my first album!

BEST SONG EVER! And I'm not talking strictly about this being the best Foo Fighters song. This is hands down the best song ever written, recorded, and performed. The guitar riffs are so elegant and powerful, the bass is a masterpiece, and the drums are incredible! I love this song, the Foo Fighters love this song, and I guarantee you the world loves this song.

16 Aurora

This song is just perfect. It has a very powerful meaning. "I just kinda died for you, you just kinda stared at me, we will always have the chance, we can do this one more time." It is so perfect. The guitar is so calm and relaxing, and the chorus is full of power but is still calm. By far my favorite song, and I have heard all of their albums, including Wasting Light. This song is epic.

I'm just shocked that this isn't at the top. I didn't know this song existed until we saw them play it in NJ, and it was just beautiful. It wasn't as crazy and loud as All My Life and The Pretender, but I think this is underrated altogether. Only true Foo Fighters fans know this song.

17 Let It Die

This song was introduced to me by my best friend and fellow rock fan. At first, I thought it was average, but after listening to it a couple of times, I changed my mind. This song needs to be number one. It must be listened to multiple times to really understand how good it is.

This should have been released as a single and is definitely their best song. I demand that you all go and listen to it now. And why doesn't this count as a good enough comment yet? Let me post this now, for the love of God.

This is my favorite Foo Fighters song, hands down. It takes your breath away and leaves you flying on wings. It is very much underrated.

18 This is a Call

I concur. This song is ridiculously low on this list! Rocking song! One of my favorites from that era and easily in my top 10 Foo's songs.

Absolute joke that this isn't higher. The original Foo Fighters song! Great to mosh to. It was their first single! Should be at least in the top 15. Come on, guys.

This is like the best song, and it's not even in the top 100! It's their first single! Come on!

19 These Days

Dave Grohl is one of the most genuine musicians ever, and he is transparent in every one of the Foo Fighters' songs. Yet, in "These Days," his emotion translates into the music more than in any other song of theirs. The pause before "EASY FOR YOU TO SAY" sends chills down my spine every time I listen to this masterpiece. Easily the most underrated song in their catalog.

I agree with the others. This song is so electrifying and moving. I got here by searching "Foo Fighters 'These Days' best song." I love all of the other Foo Fighters songs, but this song accomplishes what few songs ever do: simplicity, emotion, strength, and vulnerability all in one song. Super simple, yet complex. I can't stop listening to this song.

20 Breakout

I can't believe that this song is so low. I never realized how good the Foo Fighters were until I heard this song. I sang this song in front of my friends, and then they got into the Foo Fighters. I like it when they scream out Breakout. Another thing I can't believe is that This Is A Call is also low. It is a very great song too, but Breakout is slightly better.

Best song by Foo Fighters. Great guitar riffs. Should be number 1! Why is Wheels number 5? That was terrible. The old stuff is better than the new stuff. Move Breakout to number 1.

21 Stacked Actors

This song should easily be in the top 20 at least. It's one of their best songs live, always boasting a minimum of a seven-minute time slot, combined with drum and guitar jams during the bridge. Plus, that bass line is so catchy. How can this possibly rank so low?

I think this is a really good song. It's so much different from any other song that Foo Fighters have released. It has metal roots and really hard rock riffs. Just a really good song.

This is in every single top 10 Foo Fighters song chart except this one!

22 Something from Nothing

Best Foo Fighters song! It makes you headbang hard. Dave proves he's a great singer. The change between calm and aggressive throughout the song makes it one of the best, if not the best, Foo Fighters songs.

This is my favorite. Love the screams, the drums, the vocals, and everything. It's from Sonic Highways, too recent. Please check this out. Again, love the vocals.

Dark and melodic. Sonic Highways has some fantastic lyrics from Grohl, arguably some of the best.

23 Hey, Johnny Park!

This is my all-time favorite Foo Fighters song. The intro, the vocals - everything just fits perfectly. I'm not going to argue that it should be in the top ten, because that is my opinion, not yours. My opinion is that this song outclasses nearly every other song on this list. It is called "Hey Johnny Park!" because Dave's best friend as a kid was named Johnny Park, and he thought that if he named a song after him, Johnny would call.

Definitely my favorite Foo Fighters song! I love all of their albums, but this album and this song specifically just blow me away. From the soft, beautiful verses to that powerful chorus featuring Dave's signature scream, it's a super underrated and amazing song. If you haven't heard it, check it out!

24 DOA

Foo Fighters have so many amazing songs, but I am blown away that DOA is never listed as one of their best! It's been one of my favorites since the first time I heard it!

Can't believe this isn't in the top 10. It somehow always seems to get overlooked for some reason. Probably has the best riff of any Foo Fighters track.

My favorite Foo Fighters song, underrated and brilliant rock song from a great album. Excellent vocals, guitar, everything.

25 Next Year

One of the most beautiful songs I've heard in my life. Foo Fighters have LOADS of amazing songs, but this one is just extra special.
