Best Movies Since 1980

I figured we could narrow down some of the real best movies of all time, starting with when movies started to get worth watching.
The Top Ten
1 The Dark Knight

One of the best movies ever created.

2 Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl

Great movie, great acting by Orlando Bloom, Jack Davenport, Geoffry Rush and others. Johny Depp didn't impress me. He needs to get some education on the field finally. He was the weakest from the list and in sequels his character became boring and annoying coward. Also, the movie has great music and amazing stunts.

Great acting, incredible music, and it doesn't take itself to seriously so the ridiculousness is genius.

Great comedy, great action, great acting, great visuals... This movie has it all. Johhny Depp IS Captain Jack Sparrow.

3 Gladiator

This absolute masterpiece of a movie is always in my favorites. The incredible performances, the cinematography, the sound, the pure visual power this film has is just incredible.

4 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

The best trilogy ever given to man by God and JRR Tolkien. Nothing else to say except simply amazing

Simply the best trilogy and this is the best movie.

The greatest series of movies ever created.

5 The Shawshank Redemption

The Best Adaption of a Stephen King Novel yet...Plus Morgan Freeman turns in a Brilliant performance along with the rest of the cast

6 Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
7 Back to the Future

That's The Power Of Love!

Before he goes to 1955 the mall is called "Twin Pine Mall". When he's in 1955 he accidently destroys a pine tree, and when he gets back to 1985, the mall is called "Lone Pine Mall".

Hilarious; a time travel masterpiece; the best film produced in the 1980s; a must-see; if you haven't seen this, you're missing out!

Honestly one of the funniest things I've ever seen. The plot is extremely well written.

8 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
9 Fight Club
10 Braveheart
The Contenders
11 Raiders of the Lost Ark

Non-stop action and adventure from beginning to end.

12 Troy

This movie was highly unappreciated when it came out, and I think it's because a majority of the people had no idea what was going on. But, those that have read the Illiad, or even know the story line, generally liked the move. The movie has awe-inspiring fight scenes, and raw emotion. It is a very powerful movie.

13 Ghostbusters
14 Forrest Gump
15 Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
16 War of the Worlds

I will start by saying I Do Not like Tom Cruise, or Dakota Fanning, but this movie is a masterpiece. I was truly frightened while watching this movie, and they have done a great job making this very creative book an even more creative movie. Even if you don't like the movie, you should be able to appreciate the visual effects.

17 Toy Story
18 Jurassic Park
19 Titanic
20 Equilibrium

I was surprised that I had never heard of this movie before, considering it has both Christian Bale and Sean Bean, two of the best. It was surprisingly emotional and thought provoking. The editing was excellent and the score was beautiful. It made me feel, and is an incredibly well-made movie.

I was absolutely entranced the entire time watching this movie. A combination of incredible visuals, and a very creative storyline, this movie starring Christian Bale and Sean Bean, along with Taye Diggs is a strong movie with some awesome fight scenes, and a great plot.

21 Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

This love story has some of the most stunning fight scenes I have ever seen. The casting of this movie makes this wonderful story truly come to life. Very few movies have been copy catted with such little success.

22 Count of Monte Cristo

I put this on the top for many reasons. The acting, the script, and the fact that is based on one of my favorite books, and was done exceedingly well. Richard Harris is a genius in this movie. He is one of my favorite charectars in the movie.

23 Brokeback Mountain
24 Sherlock Holmes (2009)

One of my favorites. The casting is perfect, and it has a perfect mix of plot, humor, action, and suspense. The story is so good that the day after I watched this movie, I watched it again. The sequel, A Game of Shadows, is my favorite movie ever.

Much like Pirates of the Caribbean but with a much better looking lead actor.
