"Collide" Album Review

Alpha101 Skillet was one of two bands that got me into music, so I've always felt a bit nostalgic towards them. I don't really lie SKillet's newest albums, such as "Awake," "Comatose," and "Rise," though they aren't at all bad albums. They're all okay, but they just don't grab me like this one does. "Collide" is easily Skillet's heaviest and most aggressive album to date, and has always been my favorite.

"Forsaken" is not a great song, but it is enjoyable. It does a decent job of opening the album, and is appealing for the first few listens. Then I usually just skip it.

"Savior" is among the best on the album. It was one of the first songs that I heard off of the album, and is still one of my favorite songs by the band today. It's meaningful, and has a catchy chorus.

"Open Wounds" was the first song that I heard off of the album, and it immediately caught me off guard. I was used to the new Skillet, with their Christian Rock, and kind of watered down rock. What I got instead was a pulsing and driven song with lots of anger and resentment, and that's what I've always loved about it.

"A Little More" is still one of the best rock ballads out there. It's message is meaningful, though sappy and overused, I must admit. Nevertheless, it is still a good song.

"My Obsession" is another standout track. It's impactful, and I and many others can easily relate to it. It's funny though, because John Cooper is a Dr. Pepper addict, and so am I, so I always think of the drink whenever listening to the song. "I thirst, no longer. Drenching my soul. Pour out like water!"

"Collide" is the best song on the album. The opening always gives me shivers down my spine, and the lyrics are meaningful and very well-written.

"Fingernails" is easily the heaviest song on the album. It kind of reminds me of Korn. The lyrics make me feel uneasy, and I can easily relate to it. This is also one of the best on the album.

"Imperfection" is a very relatable song, and that's why I love it so much. It's another fantastic song, and another one of my favorites.

"Under My Skin" is a forgettable track, possibly the only one on the album. It's not a bad song, and I do enjoy it, but it's not comparable with the rest of the songs on the album. It is catchy, I will give it that.

"Energy" is another pretty heavy song, especially for this band. Besides that, it's another average song. I still like this one, but not nearly as much as the other tracks on the album.

"Cycle Down" is another let down, and does a poor job closing the album, though it isn't horrible. It was more of a disappointment. Like "Under My Skin," it is catchy, though.

This is still my favorite album by the band, and one of my favorite albums in recent years. For people who want to get into the band but don't like their newer sound, try this album. You'll thank me later.

9.2/10 - Great Album
