Best South American Countries

The Top Ten
1 Chile Chile, officially the Republic of Chile, is a country in the western part of South America. It is the southernmost country in the world, and the closest to Antarctica; occupying a long and narrow strip of land between the Andes to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Chile covers an area of 756,096 square kilometers (291,930 sq mi), with a population of 17.5 million as of 2017. It shares land borders with Peru to the north, Bolivia to the north-east, Argentina to the east, and the Drake Passage in the far south. Chile boasts the most stable economy in all of South America, unemployment rate is below 6%, possibly has the most advanced education system in SA, real estate is affordable, monstrous wine, excellent scenery from the north to south of Chile, more technologically advanced, high government approval ratings, low delinquency rates. Culturally and socially, it is a very rich country - traditions have never been swayed by the past, we embrace new cultures from all around the world, though wealth and racial discrimination is certainly evident in day to day life. Oh and don't forget, we now have the best south american soccer team!

Basically every type of landscape in the world is in Chile. The most beautiful mountains are in Chile (and Argentina to be fair), beautiful towns and cities such as the Italian reminiscent city Valparaiso. Speaking of Italian reminiscent, the cost lines are very much so! We also have the best people in the world! Okay, every South American country has their crazy ones. There's no denying it. But if you're going to be in South America, you have to look aside for the great people within South America. We have the funniest, most poetic (Chile call themselves the land of the poets because of our two famous poets, but average Chileans I see are always saying beautiful peptic words) welcoming people. Chiles government is also is great! They are focused on funding on science and renewable energy. Already a better government than USA

Chile is the best Country in South America to live in hands down.

1) Safest Country in South America
2) Greatest Economy
3) Beautiful Landscapes ( Driest Desert in the world and Patagonia! )
4) Big mountains, Beaches, Ski resorts, best wine ever, amazing food, HEALTHY FOOD IS CHEAP!
5) The most welcoming people ever
6) easy to travel ( Public transtportation is cheap all along the country) even better! Fly tickets are sometimes cheaper than bus tickets.
8) they have Pisco which is the the best drink ever.

Chile is not the safest. Safest is Uruguay, and if you take the size and population Argentina is even safer. The greatest economy is Brazil, because is a real economy (production + work). Chile is just a 10 ultra rich families and 30% of poverty. The people isn't welcoming, and they are very ignorant about other countries and cultures. Easy to travel? Is in the end of the world, far away from the civilization! And Pisco is from Peru!

2 Argentina Argentina, officially the Argentine Republic, is a country in the southern half of South America. Argentina covers an area of 2,780,400 km2 (1,073,500 sq mi), making it the second-largest country in South America after Brazil, the fourth-largest country in the Americas, and the eighth-largest country in the world. It shares the bulk of the Southern Cone with Chile to the west, and is also bordered by Bolivia and Paraguay to the north, Brazil to the northeast, Uruguay and the South Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the Drake Passage to the south. Argentina is a federal state subdivided into twenty-three provinces, and one autonomous city, which is the federal capital and largest city of the nation, ...read more.

I love Argentina! Such an amazing country! The variety of landscapes it offers is countless! Large woods in the south with high snow-capped mountains in their background, wild rivers, clear water lakes. Buenos Aires, is the main city, which spreads European style through the architecture of many of their historic buildings and culture. Up in the north a huge waterfall shared with Brazil in considered one of the seven natural wonders in the world, totally imposing and worth visiting. Salta, in the north west of the country is in my opinion the best city I have visited. This city is full of picturesque and colorful mountains and the meals I tried there were great. Argentinians are welcoming and outgoing people. I'm looking forward to going back once again!

Argentina is a great country! It offers such a countless variety of landscapes from south to north. Patagonia is incredible, full of large bushy woods with high snow-capped mountais in the background. In the north east the iguazu waterfalls are a worth visiting spot when travelling, are considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Buenos aires, the main city, shows a quite clear European style which tells us a little bit about the strong European influence from the past. People are cool, outgoing and welcoming. This are just particular facts that lead me to think that Argentina is a great country.

By far the most beautiful country in the region! As a Brazilian, I was impressed by how clean and modern/European Buenos Aires looked when I arrived there. The roads were in noticeable better conditions than Brazilian roads. The people dress much more elegantly than in Brazil, the people were in general much more polite and I was treated much better by the people in stores there. Would love to live there someday! It's really sad how many Brazilians have a thing against Argentina because of soccer, they have a beautiful country and people!

The country with the most bookstores in the whole continent, Buenos Aires alone has more bookstores than the whole of Brazil. The easiest country for foreigners and students to immigrate into, second lowest murder rate in the region, once one of the richest countries in the world. Even though Argentina still is not as rich anymore, it still manages to have a very high HDI, good public education and one of the lowest murder rates in the region.

Buenos Aires is the most beautiful city I've ever been! The city truly feels like an European city in Latin America. I'm Brazilian by the way, but I'd move out to Argentina in heartbeat, despite all their economic problems, I fell in love with Argentina and it's people, it's a shame that so many Brazilians hold negative opinions about Argentina only because of soccer. I feel like Argentines are friendlier towards Brazilians than the other way around.

Other things that make Argentina an awesome country:

Very open minded ...more

3 Peru Peru, officially the Republic of Peru, is a country in western South America, bordered by Colombia and Ecuador to north, Brazil to east, Bolivia to south-east, Chile to south and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Peru is mostly known for being where the Inca people originally came from. The capital of Peru is Lima and lies in the western part of Peru. Most people in Peru speak Spanish, but some people here also speak Quecha and Aymara.

Peru is hands down the best country, not sure why Chile is first considering they're snobby racists who steal everything from Peru and Bolivia because they have no culture themselves. Peru has an amazing and unique culture both among the common citizens and the many different indigenous tribes. The mountains are simply beautiful and the people there are friendly and open to helping foreigners

Peru is the richest in culture and history. Beautiful sights and the food has to be hands down the best in all of south america next to brasil and Colombia. Miraflores is beautiful, along with the people. Such a happy place to be. What more could you ask for. I don't know why chile is first they lack culture because they steal EVERYTHING FROM PERU PISCO IS PERUVIAN YEAH THANK YOU

Peru has everything it's so diverse, a rich history with great people and amazing food, Beaches, mountains, desert, jungle, the amazon rainforest, you can come explore the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu after a stay in the beautiful Cusco, and enjoy the big city life of Lima while being within close proximity to beaches and other historical tourist destinations.

I been in all south america, Peru has everything, the food is unbelievably, so fine, thousands of restaurants, even the cheap ones, the food is all fine, I can't explain.. The weather is all different, super hot amazon, snow andes, the rainforest, desert in ica, coast white sand beaches, not country in south america got everything like Peru, or is cold or hot, machupichu, the Amazon the best wonder, the women are very intelligent, decent, they aren't bitches like brazilian, argentinas, colombians, can't stay with 1 man, need many.. The culture wow, not country show so much culture like Peru, full of things to know, everyone are well educated lima never rain, not snow, people are extremely friendly, brazil is so dangerous, colombia too, peru isn't, I felt so happy there, was magical, you have to travel there, then you will believe.. You have to know all south america in real then you see who is best!

4 Brazil Brazil, officially the Federative Republic of Brazil, is the largest country in both South America and Latin America. At 8.5 million square kilometers (3,300,000 sq mi) and with over 214 million people, Brazil is the world's fifth-largest country by area and the sixth most populous. Its capital is Brasília, and its most populous city is São Paulo. The federation is composed of the union of the 26 states and the Federal District. Brazil is THE best country in South America, and one of the world bests!

Chile is fake, although not as much as Argentina, that looks like throw all their money in buenos aires and forget about the rest of their bad country, and even hide it from the rest of the world.

Chile have indeed good quality life rates, is not just a fraud like Argentina, but remember that Chile is so small, that it becomes easy to manege and bring itself a good graphics. But, just like Argentina, they pretend to be something that they aren't, Europeans. At least they didn't went out of limits to a point of claim themselves Europeans, like Argentina did lol. They just have an German look alike army for some reason, they have no historical relations to Germany or even Prussia. Actually, Brazil is the only country in the world that had an European capital outside of Europe when the Portuguese royal court came here and created the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves... and yet, we ...more

I am a Chinese person and everyone in my class says that Brazil has peaceful beaches and crystal waves that glisten in the sun. The thing that catches me out are the beaches because going to beaches makes me calm and relaxed. In my holidays I have always dreamed of going to Brazil!

Brazil has the grestest beaches, music (with the north american music, Jazz and Blues, there is nothing like Bossa Nova) most perfect women and the biggest forest of the world - the lungs of the earth. Brazil will never be empty of clean water, clean air and clean nature. It's a wonderful place!

5th largest Economy, one of the largest oil resorts found in deep water in the past 40 years. Country of natural beauties great food lovely people and most of it is highly developed.

5 Uruguay Uruguay, officially the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, is a country in South America. It shares borders with Argentina to its west and southwest and Brazil to its north and northeast; while bordering the Río de la Plata to the south and the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast. It is part of the Southern Cone region of South America. Uruguay covers an area of approximately 181,034 square kilometers (69,898 sq mi) and has a population of an estimated 3.51 million, of whom 2 million live in the metropolitan area of its capital and largest city, Montevideo.

I'm Colombian and I love Uruguay because it's the most civilized, educated, safe and developed country in South America. I hope I can go there one day and drink mate and eat asado. Beautiful landscapes, beaches, geography. Oh and it has ones of my favorite players Suarez and Cavani :V

The least corrupt and the most literate. Uruguayans have most access to the internet per capita than the rest of South America. Their beef is probably the best in the continent, Argentinian beef comes in a very close second place in that matter.
About 80% or more of the energy they consume comes from renewable sources, mainly wind.
It is also the safest country in South America with the lowest number of murders per 100k citizens, and also the lowest number of violent crimes overall. This is probably do to the fact that Uruguay has the highest number of policemen per cápita than the rest of the continent.
Education is free, even University, with the public University (UDELAR) being the best of the country

I'm from Argentina and I like Uruguay as well. We are close countries not only in terms of location but in friendship too. I deserve all the best to this country.

I'm from Argentina, and Uruguay is our brother in South America. They hate us, but not for real... And we love them, joking all the time about their size

6 Colombia Colombia, officially the Republic of Colombia, is a country situated in the northwest of South America, bordered to the northwest by Panama; to the east by Venezuela and Brazil; to the south by Ecuador and Peru; and it shares maritime limits with Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Haiti.

I was so impressed by the natural beauty of this country. Its people are gorgeous. It is recovering from a long civil war, but all countries have had conflicts. I was also amazed by the stupidity of Argentinians when they say their country is better because it looks European. I was in Paris last year and I was so disappointed by the pollution.

My friend thinks that Jamaica is better than colombia because we are sixth in the ranking and they are 4 in the Caribbean ranking what your having a laugh mate

This country should be in the Top 5. I'm from the Philippines but Colombia is way a lot better and easier inspite it's violent past... From coffee to nature to women all the best! VIVA COLOMBIA..

I love colombia!
Its in my blood
Beauty of Colombia!
dont forget the world's hottest girls and plants and flowers

7 Ecuador Ecuador, officially the Republic of Ecuador, is a representative democratic republic in northwestern South America, bordered by Colombia on the north, Peru on the east and south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

Small country and yet has so much to explore: beautiful beaches, Impresive volcanos, amazing jungle, unforgettable rainforest and enchanted Galapagos. In addition the largest best preserved old town in Quito and Cuenca. Also, Guayaquil, beautiful and refreshing;. food is GREAt and people are very welcoming

Amazing I was born there and it looks like there's so much to be seen there every time I go to visit iguanas by the way should be the countries animal and there is so much diversity there and also most of your tuna in starkist is from pasorja

Ecuador is small yet compact. With the beautiful Galapagos islands, amazon basin, and towering Andes Mountains, the country provides plenty of culture and biodiversity. Not the best, but pretty damn close

I'm from the United States living here and I must say, by far the most beautiful country in South America. We have the Galapagos islands too.

8 Paraguay Paraguay, officially the Republic of Paraguay, is a landlocked country in central South America, bordered by Argentina to the south and southwest, Brazil to the east and northeast, and Bolivia to the northwest.

Among the strongest South American economies and the fastest growing for two consecutive years. People of Paraguay are a mixture of not only native Indians, but a variety of European countries, as well as Asian and Middle Eastern cultures. They are as warm as the weather;many opportunities for business and of course the finest ladies. A beautiful land.

Paraguay is considered the happiest country, people are very positive and friendly, definitely one of the best in South America.

Beautiful country with gorgeous women

It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the north, French Guiana to the east, Guyana to the west and Brazil to the south. Suriname has a population of approximately 575,990, most of whom live on the country's north coast, in and around the capital and largest city, Paramaribo.

It is a very nice country. A lot of tourist from Europe visit this country. Native language is Dutch, such a wonderful place to be for the summer

10 Bolivia Bolivia, officially known as the Plurinational State of Bolivia, is located in western-central South America.

I went to Bolivia in 2008, and I loved it. I loved the nature, the people, and the overall ruggedness of the country. You get the Andes and Lake Titicaca on the left side of the country, rainforests in the center, and desert in the rest of the country. La Paz is the best city in South America, in my opinion, right next to Cuzco and Valparaiso. And the salt flats look like the final arena where Link fought Demise in The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Plus, there's the acceptance of all races and genders (mostly). People have been painting their buildings in many different colors to support gay rights.

Far better than any country in south america, good quality of life, low crime rate, booming economy and welcoming people

One of the fastest growing economy in South America for the last 5 years. Very peaceful and welcoming people

Bolivia is a great country that only few people know. it's better than Chile and Argentina also

The Contenders
11 French Guiana French Guiana, officially called Guiana, is an overseas department and region of France, located on the north Atlantic coast of South America in the Guyanas.

It is a very nice terotory. It has the culture of Peru along with the forests of Brazil, and don't forget thed beautiful French language!

Really nice but it's a French department so 100% France,so cannot be considered as a country full-blown.

Not a sovereign state, but the safest of the guyanas, and interesting

It is NOT a country!

12 Venezuela Venezuela, officially the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, is a federal republic located on the northern coast of South America.

Went to caracas and margarita island with my girlfriend, she is actually from there we had a great time, I though South americans were all blacks but venezuelans seem to be very good looking and civilized, had fun there. caracas is a big city, the skyline is bigger than bogota or lima other than that I wouldn't live there now

YEES we have hot girls, nice turistic places and DUUDE HOT GIIRLS... I think I said that before
