Top 10 Best Superhero Movies of All Time

The Top Ten
1 The Dark Knight

TDK is the best superhero movie, and it's not very close. Not only is this the best superhero movie of all time, but it's also one of the best movies in general - for example, being one of five movies on IMDb to hold a 9.0+ rating. The acting was phenomenal, the best cast I've seen, at least. Heath Ledger's Joker is the best villain performance of this generation (he won an Oscar to prove it), and Aaron Eckhart's fantastic portrayal of Two-Face was mostly overshadowed by Ledger's perfection. You can't forget Bale as Batman, who nailed it again, as well as Gary Oldman as Gordon and Michael Caine as Alfred.

The plot and writing were near perfection, with virtually no plot holes, if any at all. I don't believe there will be a superhero movie that will ever top this one. Well done, Mr. Nolan, very well done.

2 The Avengers

I know that third is really good, but the fact that even the original Spider-Man is ranked above The Avengers is just sad. I loved those movies, but The Avengers is my favorite superhero movie of all time. Heck, it's my favorite movie of all time. The Dark Knight was good, but I didn't love it that much.

The Avengers is way better than The Dark Knight and grossed a whole 500 thousand dollars more worldwide. Heath Ledger as the Joker was half the reason why it was so successful, and I will always have respect for him, but come on. The Avengers is the best superhero movie yet.

3 Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 is better than Logan. Logan is, sadly, overrated. I too thought it was great on my first viewing, but it's just too much depressive content all crammed into one movie. It doesn't make much sense seeing Logan in Days of the Future Past and Apocalypse and then all of a sudden, he is depressed and wanting to die. I get it, depression is a real thing, but Wolverine doesn't stay depressed for an entire movie's runtime and then die, okay? It's just stupid, and Charles's death was also depressing. I appreciate the drama and the vibes it had, but the film was just too overloaded with it. And just because of that, everyone calls it a masterpiece. It is not. It was fun, but essentially, it was not the end that an X-Men and Wolverine fan would expect for their hero. Where's the charming, charismatic, kind of bad-tempered, yet somehow optimistic Logan, anyone? Yeah, he's not in the movie... overrated. Spider-Man 2 should be ranked above this, hands down.

4 Batman Begins

Batman Begins is the most underrated superhero movie. Those who pick Marvel movies to be better, just clearly live for the simple pleasures of action and basic storylines. All Marvel movies have a political agenda. The Batman trilogies delved deeper, with more symbolism and a nuanced discussion of what justice means. However, it seems that some people can't appreciate action and story complementing each other. Oh, and Christian Bale is the best Batman, even more complex than Kevin Conroy's and Michael Keaton's portrayals. The only Marvel movie that stepped away from using basic political agendas was Doctor Strange.

5 The Dark Knight Rises

This one has to be number 2 or number 1. I felt it was better than The Dark Knight because there was more Batman story than a villain doing crazy things, and there was much more heroism. The oration at the end was epic. This movie has more to do with Batman being forced by the people to be Batman, which ultimately proves that the people accepted him as a hero. So, he technically defeated Joker's main objective of making Batman a villain. Also, there is an interesting end, and the climax was the best of the three films. The Dark Knight cannot be better than this movie just because it had the Joker. I mean, seriously.

6 Logan

An epic conclusion to Jackman's 17-year run as Wolverine. It couldn't have been any better. Charles thought he was killed by Logan, which makes his death all the more tragic. And the ending... I will never forget the moment when Hugh Jackman closed his eyes. No film has ever left a mark on me as significant as this one. It's not just mindless slashing and cutting - the R-rated violence actually makes sense and is an integral part of the film. One of the greatest pros of this film is the portrayal of Logan's relationship with Laura. If any film can knock Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight down to the second position, it's LOGAN. Goodbye, Wolverine!

7 Guardians of the Galaxy

I absolutely love this movie. Of all the movies I've seen, this has got to be one of the movies that best blend comedy and sadness. It's one of the only movies where I've both laughed out loud and cried. It also has some of the most fun cast of characters, like Rocket, who is both funny and has a dark, hidden backstory. Love this movie.

How could you not like this movie? It's got a character that just says "I am Groot" and can still make him an interesting character. Rocket is hysterical and kind of a jerk (he gets better in the Avengers movies) and is such a deep character. Marvel can make anything good.

8 Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Depressing list if this is number 39 and GOTG is so far up. Guardians had to be the most disappointing movie of 2014. Cliché after cliché, corny as hell. It was definitely a funny movie, but the fact that people consider it one of the best superhero movies even though it has an awful plot and the worst bad guy ever who does literally nothing is crazy. I hope this hype dies down soon.

This movie, on the other hand, did everything right. The action in this movie puts every superhero movie before it to shame. Steve Rogers is not a boy scout. He is a badass.

9 Avengers: Infinity War

This is the greatest superhero movie of all time, and one hell of a cinematic achievement. There are so many ways this movie could have gone wrong, but the Russo brothers absolutely nailed it. It was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. I remember thinking I needed a cigarette after seeing it in the theater, and I don't smoke.

The sheer depth and the skill to hone all 10 years' worth of stories should be commended. Speaking of which, this film has the best resolutions and one of the best villains in recent memory.

10 Iron Man

Well, Iron Man is a more realistic superhero than Batman, I think. He's not the one who'll get upset if the city bank is robbed. He won't run after the thief who snatched a purse (like Spider-Man), but he will definitely save the world when it's needed the most. He won't get too sentimental while putting his life on the line (remember The Avengers?). He doesn't fear that his superhero identity will cost the people closest to him (just think of Batman, always fearful of being exposed). He creates trouble, and he solves it. He will break his own morals if needed (not like Batman, who lets others die for his secret). And of course, the coolest actor portraying the coolest character. He is simply the best.

The Contenders
11 Spider-Man

When I went to New York on vacation, I couldn't help but look up at the high skyscrapers and buildings there, waiting and wondering if Spider-Man would appear. He is such an accessible superhero - nothing compares to the friendly neighbor. Like, never. P.S.: I was 21 back then. Yeah, I guess even adults want him to exist. How can a hero be more epic?

An amazing movie, probably the best superhero origin story (maybe tied with Batman Begins). Willem Dafoe is truly incredible, Tobey Maguire is amazing, the fight scenes, and the character development and emotional grip are awesome as well.

12 Captain America: Civil War

I think The Dark Knight deserves the first spot. But, in my opinion, this one is at least top 3. I'm not sure if I like this one or The Avengers more, but I believe this one should definitely be higher on this list, top 5 at the very least. This movie was great!

Probably the best thing about this movie is how, instead of incorporating a traditional villain, it adds a much more manipulative one, yet still makes the conflict between heroes very real and leaves us hanging at the end.

The Dark Knight might be my favorite superhero movie, but this is my favorite Marvel film and the superhero movie that every time I talk or think about it, I want to watch it again.

13 Avengers: Endgame

Endgame knows that it needed to take its time and treat its characters with the time and respect they deserve. So, despite the first act seeming slow, it ends up being highly impactful. The characterization is beautiful and far better than even the previous installments in the MCU. It's more grounded than any other superhero movie I've seen by having more realistic and interesting characters than anyone could ever believe would be in a movie with magic people wearing tights.

While this movie does have some glaring problems, such as its plot holes and overall slow first act, it's still one of the best superhero movies I've ever seen. Aside from living up to the hype, it also offered a satisfying conclusion to a 22-movie franchise.

14 Batman

Tim Burton defined the approach to Batman. It is much closer to the comics than the Dark Knight trilogy, and Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson are perfect as Batman and The Joker. This should be number one.

So old, but still good. I just don't get how Michael Keaton could be the good guy in this movie, but be the bad guy in Spider-Man: Homecoming!

Because it's one of the most influential superhero films ever made, a classic, and a masterpiece.

15 X-Men: Days of Future Past

This is better than The Winter Soldier, sorry. Each X-Men shined here. The visual effects were the greatest I've seen in an action movie to date (my personal favorite) just behind The Dark Knight Rises. And the plot and character development flowed so naturally. It was a total nerdgasm. This movie is the best X-Men film and it deserves, legitimately, the number 10 spot, to say the least.

X-Men: Days of Future Past was the best X-Men to date. The early movies were good, but this was the best one. The characters are good. It can be funny and dark in the story.

16 Deadpool

My new favorite superhero movie. This breaks all the rules and doesn't have a dull moment in the entire movie. Plus, it is hilarious and irreverent. Awesome.

I love the movies in the Top Ten, but this movie is just too funny and awesome not to vote for.

The funniest superhero movie yet and the second best, only behind The Dark Knight.

17 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

If this movie had lost the Oscar for Best Animated Feature to either Incredibles 2 or Ralph Breaks the Internet, I would've wanted to deport the entire Academy to Brazil.

This deserves to be higher. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was such an amazing masterpiece.

It's amazing. It definitely deserves to be in the top 10 or 15.

18 Batman - Mask of the Phantasm
19 X2 - X Men United

Seriously? X2 is the best X-Men movie, other than The Wolverine. It should be in at least the top 10 and by no means below Daredevil.

20 Superman

The first ever major superhero movie. This deserves to be number one more than any of these movies. Christopher Reeve, Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman - all these actors made it as famous as it is today. Also, the John Williams score is the best superhero theme of all time.

The granddaddy of them all. There would not have been a Dark Knight movie without this one. It was up there with Star Wars back in 1978 when it was released.

It's a disgrace that this film is so low on the list. The genre has been all downhill ever since this, though I liked Man of Steel well enough.

21 The Incredibles

This is the second-best Pixar movie after Toy Story. It should be in the top 10, despite the fact that the story hits a brick wall after Mr. Incredible is freed.

You would think that a superhero movie not based on a comic book would be horrible, but The Incredibles is one of the very few that break the mold.

It has a 97 on Rotten Tomatoes, higher than any other superhero movie out there.

22 The Avengers: Age of Ultron

The best MCU movie so far! The Empire Strikes Back of Marvel movies, an absolute masterpiece.

23 Iron Man 3

Loved the film. The only thing I didn't like was the Mandarin twist.

Awesome movie. I don't get the hate.

I thought Iron Man 1 was better, but this is my second favorite Iron Man movie.

24 X-Men: First Class

This is the second-best X-Men movie after X-Men: Days of Future Past. It should be ranked higher, and Professor X and The Beast are awesome in it.

Why did I have to be the first person to post this one on here?! Let's at least get this one into the top 15!

25 Spider-Man: Homecoming

Everyone agrees that The Dark Knight is the top as the best in superhero films. However, Spider-Man: Homecoming is just extraordinarily good. The characters are so well-developed, and there's a ton of emotion. It's a great film, and that's why I'm voting for it.

I would say this is the best Spider-Man movie, right next to Spider-Man 2, and it's a huge improvement from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

A funny movie with great action. It should be higher on the list, but because this movie is new, it has not received many votes. However, I love this movie.
