In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he is portrayed by Paul Bettany. He sacrificed himself by having Wanda destroy him in order for thanos not to have the mind stone. But thanks used the time stone to rewind time and he pulled the mind stone out of vision by using his bear hands.

My guess is that Thanos or a member of the Black Order will kill him because in the leacked trailer, his "museum" is destroyed!
