Top Ten Best Comic Book Films of the 2000s
Indeed. Very entertaining, but also very in-depth in terms of thematic substance, considering the thin lines between good and evil, morality, anarchy among many other complex issues. Not to mention how great the acting is, mainly from a very sinister and menacing Heath Ledger as The Joker, whose posthumous Oscar win was well deserved. Not my favourite of the noughties, but still a damn fine one nonetheless.

No. This film fails on every level. The individual plotlines are simplistic to the point of monotony. The two-dimensional characters are equally boring, and are a waste of a great ensemble cast, who were presumably threatened at gunpoint to star in this. Plot holes and contrivances are abound (someone hearing stop instead of cop, why no-one bothers leaving this town if it is so corrupt and filled with gangs). Tonally, it is very confused: too simplistic to be a neo-noir yet takes itself too seriously to be a tongue-in-cheek action flick. But what really gets me is the politics of the bloody thing. The hatred towards anyone who isn't a man or an atheist angers me to my boiling point. For the former, this would be seen through the objectification, over-sexualisation and victimhood that the female characters have and the latter would be seen through how all the Catholic characters within the film are either bent or rapists and that they should all be killed.
