August Jam (Charlotte Motor Speedway 1974)
Seen a lot of shows in my lifetime. None has ever come close to August Jam. Sound was great. Crowd got along. Many gatecrashers were never counted but the best guesses were between 200,000 and 250,000 people. I was 15 then and am 52 now. Never been to a show that awesome.
I was there with a friend from kingsport, tn. Have never seen anything like it sense. Would love to have some pictures or film of it.
I've been to a lot of concerts but by far the August jam in charlotte N.C. was the best. Will never forget that one. I was one of the ones that paid for a ticket.
ELP blew everyone away! Keith Emerson playing Grand Piano while levitating & turning end-over-end - Most Amazing Ever!
Best ever allman bros, foghat
I was there, camped in the car fri. Nite. Had tix, however did not need them, walked over the gates that were on the ground sat. Morning. Great Show. You could get anything you want, kinda like Alice's Resturant...
I was there. It was an expierence I don't think I'll ever forget. I felt like Alice in Wonder land! 10 of us drove from Kingsport Tennesse two day early.
I WAS 18 AT THE TIME. ME AND A FEW OTHER GUYS DROVE IN FROM ASHEVILLE. WE GOT THERE EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. IT WAS STILL DARK. THE GATE HAD BEEN CRASHED A LITTLE EARLIER AND WE WERE WITNESSING THE AFTERMATH. WE HUNG OUT IN THE PARKING LOT AND SMOKED AND DRANK SOME BEERS UNTIL SUNLIGHT. I REMEMBER WALKING AROUND IN AN OCEAN OF PEOPLE. I WAS MORE AWARE OF SOME BANDS THAT WERE PLAYING MORE THAN OTHERS LIKE BLACK OAK AND ELP. I NEVER KNEW THE ENTIRE LINEUP. EVERYONE WAS HAVING A GOOD TIME AND WE PARTIED WITH TOTAL STRANGERS AS WELL AS FAMILIAR PEOPLE WE RAN IN TO. IT CERTAINLY WAS THE HOT TICKET AT THE TIME AND IT MADE A BIG IMPRESSION ON ME. I HAVE A CONCERT POSTER FROM THAT HANGING ON MY LIVING ROOM WALL. AH TOO BE YOUNG AGAIN
