Greatest Guitar Solos

The Contenders: Page 3XW

41La Grange - Billy Gibbons

Best Texas blues boogie song and guitar solo ever!

42Muffin Man - Frank Zappa

A true master, conductor, and exceptional person. We will all, and have missed him. I saw Frank, only once, At the Palladium in NYC, on a Halloween night in the 80's, when I was in college. Before that, I bought everything he ever put out. Pure genius, he was. Rest in Peace, Frank. Your music influenced my life, and now I'm playing it for my 18 year old son. He, too, is amazed. Rest in Peace.

Frank was a genius! Better than any solo on this list.

Smooth and ragged at the same time

43Reelin' in the Years - Elliott Randall

Played lying down on a couch with every know on the Fender Twin at 10. A miracle of talent that will never be repeated by him or anyone.

This song, although not often heard or recognized, is an absolute masterpiece from Duane. Boz was fortunate to be in the same studio and throw in some fine lyrics. Should be in top 5. JG

44Freeway Jam - Jeff Beck

Beck the most under appreciated guitarist out of the Yardbirds, hands down better than Page or Clapton

45Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin

This is the live version from their show at the Earls Court on 25 May 1975. It isn't that great because Jimmy Page was totally wasted.

The Dual-neck red gibson is my dream guitar.

46Rising Force - Yngwie Malmsteen

A masterpiece - speed, accuracy, melody! One of the best ever. Deserves to be way higher - this solo is mindblowing! - Metal_Treasure

47Blind Leader - Antti Kokko

For a guitarist not popular enough to be on the 20th spot this solo shows how EPIC the solo is and how skilled the guitarist must be.

48Crazy Train - Randy Rhoads

58? Seriously? This is even better than Mr Crowley, it should be in the top 10

Where is Tom morelo. The solo for the song like a stone blew my frikin eardrums out. It was classified as an eargasm

49Cause We've Ended As Lovers - Jeff Beck

For true lovers of guitar music, any ranking is simply a fool's errand. The guitarists weighing in here will attest to the absurdity of comparing the tears brought from Jeff Beck's "Cause We've Ended as Lovers" to those brought by so many artistic masters - including the most simple one note solo by Neil Young in "Cinnamon Girl." All the tears brought by music are wet, salty and deeply personal and life affirming. I love so, so, many.

50Dogs - Pink Floyd

This song has not only one, but 5 INCREDIBLE guitar solos. Should be at least in the top 10.

Certainly belongs in the top 10. What's going on here?

When the solo kicks in its like a flash of music going through you butif it was my decision it d be mostly pf songs in that list

51Blue Sky - Duane AllmanV1 Comment
52The Sails of Charon - Uli Jon Roth

Definitely one of the best solos I've heard in my whole life. Sadly very few people know about this song. And Kirk Hammett said that this was one of his favorite solos of all time and that it changed his life.

53Back In Black - Angus Young

Now Angus is a man who likes to plug in a guitar to an amp play with no distortion and crank the volume up full and just rock. And Back in Black is an awesome example of blues playing and Angus just plays This solo with such speed and feeling its amazing it just had to be up here

I don't get it this is easily better than any thing I've seen on this list I mean come on why does everyone on this site kiss stairway to heavens ass!

WHY IS THIS SO LOW?!?!? Should be in the top 5 definitely. - KKKKieran

Angus's my man

He rocked in that song

54Estranged - Slash

One of the most underrated solos of all time, the intro the first solo and the second are amazing solos

Maybe not the best solo ever but it's definitely top 20 material at least!
This song has 4 amazing solos and if you put them together it's for sure top ten material!
I think that Slash is for sure the best guitarist ever! - dovjacobs

55Child In Time - Ritchie Blackmore

118 seriously what this solo I's about 3 min. Or close to it anyways

People just don't want to know this incredible song and solo it seems

Light years ahead of his time amazing guitar runs

One of the most epic and emotional solos in music. - Metal_Treasure

56Little Wing - Jimi Hendrix

Likely the slowest-burning solo on this list, lord of the electric guitar Jimi Hendrix's solo on Little Wing is also consequentially one of the most passionate. The solo really helps you to visualize the imagery of walking in the clouds and other such things the lyrics describe, even if drugs are probably going to be necessary to take (and should not be taken for health reasons, kiddies) if those images are to be fully visualized.

Stevie Ray's version is the best studio recorded guitar song these ears have ever heard. It's literally one big solo played by one of the masters. If you don't own it, go buy it. It's worth the fifteen dollars you'll have to pay for the disc. Hell, I'd pay a lot more than that.

Poetic. And it also spawned Stevie Ray Vaughn's magnificent rendition. Both are truly GREAT.
