Now George is NOT a baseball hall of famer, but 1977 felt like he was on his way. One year prior, he played on a great world championship team know the World over as the Cincinnati Reds. In 1977, with the Reds fighting for another post season berth, Foster was on fire. He once clubbed 3 home runs in a game against the Atlanta Braves on July 14. He added one more the next day, to give the ALL-Star break total of 29. Then on September 23, in the ninth inning of the Reds' 5-1 victory over The Atlanta Braves, Foster hit his 50th home run of the season off Buzz Capra, making him the first player to hit 50 home runs in a season since the great Willie Mays did it in 1965.
