Greatest Movie Casts of All Time

The greatest collections of talent in a single movie. Does not include actors who played themselves.
The Top Ten
1 The Departed - Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Alec Baldwin, Martin Sheen

This is my favorite Scorsese movie. He is maybe the greatest director to ever live, and this movie really went above and beyond. Leo and Nicholson are two of the all-time greats, and Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg aren't as good, but they are still both amazing actors who deserve an Oscar.

Best gangster movie and cast ever. Jack Nicholson was the best part of the movie. He's just so amazing! This should be number 1! Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon are also awesome, but no one comes close to Jack Nicholson.

2 The Return of the King - Sean Astin, Sean Bean, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Liv Tyler, Elijah Wood, Ian Holm, Hugo Weaving, Miranda Otto, Dominic Monaghan

Everyone in these movies became like a family. The members of the Fellowship became incredibly close and are still good friends to this day. The cast does a fantastic job of portraying their characters, and they fit together so well. They all gave their everything into making the movies the best they could be.

They are my favorite cast ever. I think all the actors played their parts so well even though there were so many expectations for them to do well! This is my favorite cast and also my favorite movie too! They are all awesome and amazing!

3 Pirates of The Caribbean - Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Kiera Knightely, Geoffrey Rush

It's just gotta be the best cast of any movie ever in the history of movies!

4 The Outsiders - Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Tom Cruise, Diane Lane, C. Thomas Howell, Leif Garrett

One reason I think that this is one of the best casting jobs ever is that this isn't the best film for any of these actors. However, after this film, Cruise, Dillon, Lowe, Swayze, Lane, and Macchio started getting cast for unforgettable roles and became legends in their own right (sort of).

It is laughable that any cast is placed above this one. Although we have very short memories, Oceans Eleven comes closest.

The amazing thing about this cast is that they were able to find so many big-name actors before they were famous.

5 The Avengers - Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johannson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L Jackson

Number 11! This one has the biggest stars ever! Come on, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson!

Honestly, the MCU makes some of the all-time casting decisions. This should be no.3, at least.

Some might also add Cobie Smulders, Stan Lee and Gwyneth Paltrow to the ensemble

6 The Dark Knight - Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Morgan Freeman, Michael Cain, Eric Roberts

Unbelievable movie with a great cast. And come on... You can't argue that Heath Ledger is one of the greatest actors of our time. RIP Heath, your talent is truly missed.

God rest your soul, Heath Ledger. That posthumous Oscar was so deserved!

One of the best movies ever and without a doubt one of the best casts!

7 Ocean's Twelve - Brad Pitt, Catherine Zeta-Jones, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Andy Garcia, Matt Damon, Carl Reiner, Bernie Mac, Don Cheadle
8 The Expendables - Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gary Daniels, Eric Roberts, Charisma Carpenter, David Zayaz, Giselle Itie

The cast may be good, but the movie wasn't that great.

9 The Italian Job - Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Edward Norton, Seth Green, Jason Statham, Mos Def, Donald Sutherland
10 Black Hawk Down -Josh Hartnett, Tom Sizemore, Sam Shepard, Ewan McGregor, Eric Bana, Jeremy Piven, Ron Eldard, William Fitchner, Ewan Bremmer
The Contenders
11 The Hunger Games - Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Lenny Kravitz, Toby Jones, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Alexander Ludwig

This should be in the top ten. As Jen, Josh, and Liam said, very dark movie but very light set. The cast are really bonding with each other. Definitely a great movie, great casting, awesome director, awesome friendship. Name it all!

A cast of young, up-and-coming hot talent including Josh Hutcherson, Jennifer Lawrence, Isabelle Furhman, Amanda Stenberg, Leven Rambin, and Alexander Ludwig among others.

12 Saving Private Ryan - Tom Hanks,Tom Sizemore, Edward Burns, Barry Pepper, Vin Diesel, Giovanni Ribisi, Adam Goldberg, Jeremy Davies, Matt Damon

Young actors who grew famous. Similar situation as The Outsiders, where there were a slew of great actors today who were not yet famous at the time.

Should be higher. Though many of them aren't that famous, they acted very well.

13 Tropic Thunder - Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr, and Tom Cruise.
14 The Boondock Saints II:all Saints Day - Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus, Billy Connolly, Clifton Collins Jr., Judd Nelson, Julie Benz, Peter Fonda and William Dafoe
15 Mars Attacks - Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Annette Bening, Pierce Brosnan, Danny DeVito, Martin Short, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michael J. Fox, Natalie Portman, Jack Black, Christina Applegate, Pam Grier
16 Iron Man - Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrance Howard, Jeff Bridges, Paul Bettany
17 Inception - Leo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard, Ken Wanatabe, Michael Caine

The cast for this couldn't have been better. Tom Hardy, Dicaprio, and all those other amazing people, what more could you ask for? The sad thing is that people are voting these movies based on how good they are, not based on how good the cast is.

18 A Bridge Too Far - James Caan, Sean Connery, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Olivier, Robert Redford, Elliot Gould, Ryan O'Neal, Maximilian Schell

I watched it again this morning and was just blown away by how many stars there were. You mentioned Caine, Bogarde, Fox & Elliott, but there were many others who I recognized but couldn't name. Amazing!

When I watched this, I didn't know most of these actors, including Michael Caine. However, after a few years, I realized I had seen one of the best casts of all time.

Probably the best cast of all, but an older movie "Robin and the Seven Hoods," with Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Falk, and Edward G Robinson runs it mighty close...

19 The Godfather - Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, Abe Vigoda

How is this not higher? Three nominations for best supporting actor and Brando winning best actor. Definitely should be in the top 10.

Marlon Brando and Al Pacino are enough for this movie.

Obviously, the best for anyone who knows movies.

20 The World's End - Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, Eddie Marsan and Rosamund Pike
21 Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Tom Felton, Alan Rickman, Gary Oldman, Michael Gambon, David Thewlis, Timothy Spall, Maggie Smith, Robbie Coltrane, Emma Thompson

I know it sounds prejudiced, but so many of the successful English actors are classically trained in theater, and the quality of their performances is truly impressive. None more so than in the entire Harry Potter series.

22 Pulp Fiction - John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Tim Roth, Amanda Plummer, Eric Stoltz, Bruce Willis, Ving Rhames, Phil Lamarr, Rosanna Arquette, Christopher Walken

Not a single weak link. Everyone does their character complete justice. Pulp Fiction is the type of movie that's almost impossible to pull off, but everyone gives their character humanism, complexion, and the appropriate amount of mystery. It's one of those movies where you can barely tell that the cast is acting, as they practically live the role. The fact that Samuel L. didn't get an Oscar for that role is still a travesty.

And lest we forget Harvey Keitel as the wolf and Steve Buscemi as Buddy Holly….

23 It?s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World - Spencer Tracy, Milton Berle, Sid Caesar, Buddy Hackett, Ethel Merman, Mickey Rooney, Dick Shawn, Phil Silvers, Terry-Thomas, Jonathan Winters, Edie Adams, Dorothy Provine, Eddie ?Rochester? Anderson, Jim Backus

There was so much comedy starts in this film as shown next too the title of the movie. However, there were also cameos from other comedian greats such as Buster Keaton and The Three Stooges, and literally every other working comedian. You can't get a cast as star-studded as that. Maybe except for The Departed, but this film has way more stars that are well known. This is why I picking this.

With such a massive amount of comedians to fill every role (other than Captain Cullpepper played by Spencer Tracy) and each one of them a great this is a very deserving cast.

24 Boogie Nights - Mark Wahlberg, Burt Reynolds, Julianne Moore, John C. Reilly, Don Cheadle, Luis Guzman, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Heather Graham, William H. Macy, Alfred Molina, Philip Baker Hall, Ricky Jay
25 Avengers: Infinity War - Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch,Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan

I'm sure among the 23 actors you'll find a character and actor that will appeal to you.
