Greatest NBA Point Guards

The Top Ten
1 Magic Johnson Earvin "Magic" Johnson Jr. is a retired American professional basketball player who played point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association for 13 seasons.

Magic Johnson is clearly the greatest point guard of all time, if not the greatest NBA player of all time. This man led the Lakers to 5 NBA Championships in the 80's and could have won a few more if his NBA career wouldn't have been cut short. He also won 3 MVP's, 3 Finals MVP's, and became a 12 time All-Star and a Hall of Famer.

Magic is 5th all time in assists he has 1 postseason where he averaged 15 assists per game is 1st all time in assists per game for the playoffs and Regular season is the all time record holder for assists in a playoff game [ set in 1984] he is the all time leader in assists in the playoffs with 2346 and is the all time leader in assists for the NBA finals

2 John Stockton John Houston Stockton is an American retired professional basketball player. He spent his entire professional playing career as a point guard for the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association, from 1984 to 2003. Stockton is regarded as one of the best point guards of all time, holding the NBA... read more

Easily the greatest point guard of all time, holding the records for both assists and steals. Magic had a greater supporting cast, and therefore looks much better championship wise. He was snubbed multiple times from MVP voting, and is extremely underrated. Best PG ever.

1. Magic
2. Isiah
3. Stockton

If Jordan never came back, and Stockton had gotten his 2 rings. We would have Stockton at number 1, given his statistical dominance over magic (assists and steals). But championships count. SO stockton is number 3.

3 Stephen Curry Wardell Stephen Curry II is an American professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is widely considered to be one of the greatest shooters in NBA history, if not the greatest. He is one of the most beloved stars in the NBA today, as... read more

He has to be in the top 10. He is an outstanding player and pointguard. Chris Paul is front of him. Stephen Curry went behide his back twice and made him fall ndown. Just saying I have noyhing against Chris Paul he is a good point guard too. My point is people don't know how good Stephen Curry is they just think he is another point guard out on the court. No he has the handles and he is the second best tree point shooter in all time. He can do everything but he is not the best at dunking but that's okay point guards don't have to dunk that is not what the are ment to do. In conclusion Stepehn Curry deserves to be at least in the top ten. He is a PHONOMINAL point guard and that he deserves to be in a better positan than number 15.

4 Steve Nash Stephen John Nash, is a Canadian retired professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association.

Steve Nash is the definition of what a true point guard should be. His passing skills are Montana magic, Court vision is superior to any athlete, Best shooter of having four years of doing a 50-40-90's stat, so he's a solid shooter, picks his shot that most likely will make, & is a beast! He may not have been a defender, but he has moments of stealing the ball & the least you won't see him is blocking someone, otherwise you can't stop his pick n roll was deadly with Stoudemire!

Come on, he was more effective at the point guard position than Stockton. He could do the dynamic duo thing with whatever big men he happened to be paired up with (at par, if not better than Stockton). He made his team better as well as playing the role of solo game changer-give me the ball and get outta my way stuff, when the game was not the line. Clutch. 2 consecutive mvp seasons!

5 Oscar Robertson Oscar Palmer Robertson, nicknamed "The Big O", is an American retired National Basketball Association player who played for the Cincinnati Royals and Milwaukee Bucks.

How did this guy not make the list initially?... Twelve-time All-Star, eleven-time member of the All-NBA Team, and one-time winner of the MVP award in fourteen seasons. He is the only player in NBA history to average a triple-double for an entire season. Robertson is the only guard in NBA history to ever average more than 10 rebounds per game, doing so three times. For his career, Robertson had 181 triple-doubles, a record that has never been approached. These numbers are even more astonishing if it is taken into account that the three-point shot did not exist when he played, which was introduced by the NBA in the 1979-80 season and benefits sharpshooting back court players. Maybe only Magic can challenge him as the greatest PG ever. And, I thought MJ was a SG.

6 Isiah Thomas Isiah Lord Thomas III is an American former basketball player who played professionally for the Detroit Pistons in the National Basketball Association.

Rings count folks. This guy won it back to back. Would have been 4 possible rings if not for Bird steal and then loss to Lakers when they tried to 3 peat.

He gets a bad rap because of bad boy pistons and the media hate. But really evaluate his game. He has 2 RINGS. More than all the other PG's here besides Magic. So he should be NUMBER 2!

Totally underrated by the media and fans. Small, but could lockdown any guard while simultaneously creating plays on offense. Pretty amazing player if you ask me

Underrated. People don't understand he was the only other guy in the 80s who was at Bird & Magic's level.

7 Chris Paul Christopher Emmanuel Paul is an American professional basketball player for the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association.

CP3 is a talented and fun player to watch. He has nice handles, jumpshot, and layup. Other than that, he is known for coming up short in the playoffs. He is prone to committing turnovers in high pressure situations and very often passes when he feels like it. He a good player but he might not ever win a chip.

Magic Johnson is the best but if I had to choose one that could eventually pass him it would be CP3. While Westbrook, Rondo, and D-Rose (huge fan of him) will drive and shoot, Chris Paul will find the best option first and take it. CP3 is a true point guard.

8 Jason Kidd Jason Frederick Kidd is an American basketball coach and former player. He was the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association.

Kidd should be in the top three. I mean it. Look at his numbers: over 100 triple doubles, 2nd all time in steals and assists, also the guard with the most rebounds. He makes smart plays and has improved his shooting like no one else. He is also the only NBA player with 18,000 points, 11000 assists, 7000 rebounds, and 2200 steals. This guy is a beast. He also got a ring. Most points guard in the top ten don't (Steve Nash, Rajon Rondo, etc. )

He is old but he can still do great assists. He is the better than Fisher and Steve Nash!

9 Rajon Rondo Rajon Pierre Rondo is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association.

That idiot whose username is just a bunch of numbers is completely wrong about rondo. He helped the bulls make it to the playoffs and helped the pelicans do the same

He made ray allen leave the celtics and his chemistry sucks and he ruins every team and he can't shoot

Raman Rondo is awesome. Did you see him last season? He is so awesome

10 Bob Cousy

The Newcomers

? Cade Cunningham
? Tyrese Maxey
The Contenders
11 Allen Iverson Allen Ezail Iverson is an American retired professional basketball player who played for 14 seasons in the National Basketball Association.

Not a true point guard, the man even said so himself, but deserves higher. AI could pass the ball well and was a great team leader. He also performed well in clutch time and led a sorry team to the FINALS!

In his prime the best player under 6" ever can score like nobody else and has handles of a streetballer only thing missing is his attitude but in some of his best seasons he managed to facilitate too definite top 5

He is better than Stockton he should be higher and has the best handles in the NBA

12 Derrick Rose Derrick Martell Rose is an American professional basketball player for the Minnesota Timberwolves of the National Basketball Association.

Lead his team to a ECF as the youngest MVP in NBA history with no all star teammates, to fall short to, in my opinion, the best team in the 21st century in the stacked 3 future hall of famers Miami Heat with Lebron, Wade, and Bosh. With the bulls so dependent on Rose to score it made it very easy for the Miami Heat to double him and get the ball out of his hands. I'll put MVP Rose in top 5 PG easily.

He is the most explosive point guard of all time. He should at least be in the top 10.

Best player to ever step foot on a court. Simple.

13 Jerry West Jerry Alan West is an American retired basketball player who played his entire professional career for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association.

This guy is top 5 point guard of all time. He averaged the 5th most points per game in nba history. Even the nba logo has him in the picture. BUT, STEVE BLAKE IS IN FRONT OF HIM

14 Kyrie Irving Kyrie Andrew Irving is an American professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association. He has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, and the Nets.

Kyrie irving is the best point guard in nba history and he made steph look stupid by shooting that 3point right in his face

I'd take him over Stockton and Nash because of his ring. And that game winner in the finals.

One of the decent point guards of the nba

15 Gary Payton Gary Dwayne Payton Sr. is an American retired professional basketball player. He started at the point guard position. He is best known for his 13-year tenure with the Seattle SuperSonics, and holds Seattle franchise records in points, assists, and steals.
16 Russell Westbrook Russell Westbrook Jr. is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association.

He averaged a 31 point triple double in the modern nba. That hasn't happened since Oscar Robertson, and stats were very inflated then.

Russel should be at least top 20 one of the best in his generation

Hey it's the most hated player of all time!

17 Tony Parker William Anthony Parker Jr. is a French professional basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association.

At least in the top 10. See it just proves the San Antonio Spurs are always under rated.

Tony Parker deserves at least No. 2 on this list

PARKER > RONDO are you kidding me?

18 Walt Frazier Walter "Clyde" Frazier is an American former basketball player in the National Basketball Association.
19 Nate Archibald
20 Kyle Lowry Kyle Lowry is an American professional basketball player for the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association.
21 Deron Williams Deron Michael Williams is an American professional basketball player for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association.

How can the current best PG in the NBA not be in the top ten? Ridiculous.

22 Lenny Wilkens
23 Spud Webb
24 John Wall Johnathan Hildred Wall Jr. is an American professional basketball player for the Washington Wizards of the National Basketball Association.
25 Kevin Johnson

Easily top 10 all time. Look at the numbers if you are too young to remember him.

Most underrated player in NBA history

Late 80's early 90's this guy was the best!
