Best Guitarists Ever
The Contenders: Page 13
Terry was absolutely brilliant. His style, tone, and improvisation skills are unique. You can feel his heart ooze from every note he played. In my opinion, he is one of the greatest guitarists overlooked by the general public. His greatness was overshadowed by the full sound of a 7 (or 8) piece band. His biggest fans, and those who appreciate his uniqueness, are other musicians. RIP Terry.
Terry had the voice of Ray Charles and played guitar like Hendrix. Very soulful and funky. He was great at combining rock/jazz at a time when no one was doing that. Prime cuts: Make Me Smile, 25 or 6 24, Takin It On Uptown... Definitely Rocks most underrated guitarist.
No doubt, there are several guitarists on this list that are worthy of a top ten rating, depending on what rocks your world. I could listen to Terry's studio solo on "25 or 6 to 4" over and over-fantastic! Too bad they usually cut it out on commercial radio. But, there is so much more he put on wax before he died; "It Better End Soon", for example.
JImi Hendrix upon seeing Kath perform with Chicago said that he (Kath) was better than he was. Enough said.V 18 Comments
Look at the tempo and picking patterns. I believe he is very UNDER RATED.
Munky is so inspiring, and songs he's making are awesome... KoRn is awesome! - `CoV 1 Comment
Trower is the guitar god. The best guitarist in history. I've seen all of the greats and Trower tops them all. His sentivity, note selection, emotion, power, sense of psychedelic mysticism, jazz-like improvizations and most of all his songwriting. Trower always wrote mature songs unlike the teenage anthems of his contemporaries. Trower was and still is the greatest of all time - bar none.
Was a legendary 70's guitar soloist with many hit albums including the best rock album, "Bridge of Sighs". Incredibly fast overtones and sweet licks, surely one of the best guitarists ever.
Jimi Hendricks even said he thought Trower was better then he was. If you have never listen to him before, you have got to here him and then he should be put in the top 2. The best and hardist working guitarist ever.
Too Rolling Stoned is a masterpiece, one of many written and performed by Robin Trower. Songs for a Dreamer should make anyone who has ever picked up a guitar hungry for more. Robin Trower is amazing.V 12 Comments
Not only are his skills godlike, his music is great too! Unlike EVERY OTHER Shredder out there (Except Marty Friedman, who is another one of my favorites)! If he didn't have ALS, he would rule the world... Listen to his solo album 'Perpetual Burn' if you don't believe me, or if you're too lazy, search "Jason Becker serrana" on YouTube...
Awesome! All I can say is search this guy on YouTube. Listen to him with your eyes closed then experience watching him. It is crazy, he is truly amazing his technique is one very few can mimic. So Jason should be in the top ten. Listen to Perpetual Burn. Higher or just Google him and listen to his music. You will not be disappointed
Billie Joe, Kurt Cobain are you nuts or something. Jason Becker is easily one of the greatest metal guitarist of all time. Listen to altitude. That songs had so much emotions that even 1000000 slashs can't match. Great changes but they just added to the beauty of the song. Really his body wasn't much supportive otherwise he could have easily been next to Hendrix. He has done so much at such an early age and then stopped, and that's quite unfortunate, that we imagine that Beethoven or Vivaldi is playing the instrument.
He deserves a lot better than this ranking, literally pleasure to anyone's ears with his flawless technique and pure speed. Not only is his technique god-like, but his song writing is next to none.V 46 Comments
He is doing comedy yeah, but MAN he is a good guitarist.
KG should be higher he can flat out play some of his riffs are amazing... Underrated
Tenacious D. is fun, mostly because of brilliant songwriting from this guy.
This is so wrong elvis is the king of rock and rollV 3 Comments
He's a guitar orchestra on his own. 6 strings + 10 fingers = A million sweet melodies all at once! He's one of those great guitarists who have a great mastery of the instrument it's as if the guitar was invented just for his hands. It always amazes me that 1 guitar could make all those sounds at once. I believe Andy Mckee should be #1 on this list because he proves that you don't need electric guitar effects to sound good. Hell he even uses alternate tunings for each song giving them their own unique chord progression. NOW that's a great guitarist. One who can push the instrument to it's musical limits. Just listen to Drifting, Ebon Coast and Common Ground. You'll definitely love the guy.
Kaoru's the best guitarist I've ever heard... Die is amazing but Kaoru is just a bit better... Kaoru should really be top of this list... No one can compose songs the way he does... I think it's just because the Western side are so ignorant that people like the ones mentioned are here... He's the best!
I don't know of any other guitarist who could come up with such unusual, gorgeous and emotionally bright parts in his songs. The sounds of his guitar just a shot in my heart from the first solos I've heard.
KAORU'S an awesome leader and guitarist!.. He is a beautiful composer as well and loves his band members
Dir en grey totally rocks! Kaoru is so, so talented!V 2 Comments
The heart and soul of The Rolling Stones for 5 brillant years. Listen to his solo on Time Waits For No One, a stunningly beautiful coda to his career with those geezers. Also one of the best slide guitarist around, check out All Down The Line! His vibrato on Love In Vain, off the live Get Your Ya Ya's Out LP, is exquisite! On his first solo release, simply titled Mick Taylor, he expands his turf to include fusion and does an excellent job. Broken Hands rocks harder than anything the Stones have done since his departure and Alabama contains more great slide guitar. Give him a listen!
Mick Taylor is at the three best guitarists of the 70s along Page and Blackmore and at least at the 10 best of history. And his also by far the most underrated guitarists. Just listen Sway, Time Waits For No One, Love in Vain, Dancing with Mr D, Wild Horses, and the live versions of Gimme Shelter, Jumping Jack Flash, Street Fighting Man, Satisfaction
I often wonder what the Stones would have done if Taylor had stayed. His solo on Love In Vain from the 72 U.S. tour movie "Ladies and Gentlemen" says it all... The other solo work I love to listen to is on "Can't you hear me knocking" from Sticky Fingers. Smooth.
Big mistake should be in top 10V 3 Comments
I have seen Orianthi perform several times over the past year in extremely intimate settings. I have been following her career since her appearance with Alice Cooper on American Idol. Her appearance on AI blew my mind because I had no idea who she was at the time. I did some video research and was convinced this was the one to watch. What I like most about Orianthi is watching her grow as an artist. Anyone who has ever seen her jam knows she can shred. What many might not realize is how good she is complementing other outstanding musicians on stage. Watching her and Jimmy Z tearing it up at the Whiskey was a highlight. But what sometimes gets lost in the conversation is her ability to go from shredder to one of the most soulful players I have ever seen. Whether tearing it up or slowing it down as she does on How Do You Sleep, the lady knows what she is doing - and doing it with feeling - and doing it well! While there are so many great guitarists on this list, Orianthi is my pick.
Steve Vai's protege who can keep up with all of the guys in this list, but isn't taken seriously just because she's a girl. We need more girls playing guitar.
Her guitar shredding was awesome in Sadda Haq by AR Rahman. I've seen clips of her performing on stage with MJ too and she was able to perform the beat it guitar bit quite well.
Orianthi! Amazing guitarist! Unbelievable talent! - KimMia90V 5 Comments
The lead guitarist of blur is one of the greatest fender52 players ever. His guitar playing is a trademark. He is inventive and never sounds like anyone else. His guitar playing is known through out England and the world
He has so many amazing solos and pieces in blur songs, is truly amazing, why isn't he further up? He is the best guitarist of the last 20 years
Too underrated. Really would change music, if people would care. - logbloboV 1 Comment
Not the greatest ever, but waayyy better than the vast majority that rated higher than him.V 1 Comment
Should be moved up to number one. 5FDP. Look him up to see what you think. Metal. Enjoy!
Flea? Keep your head up you know where and smoke more dope you tool.
I'm just surprised Flea is so under-appreciated.
Flea is a bassist, not a guitarist.V 1 Comment
You should listen to his version on "Loan Me a Dime" He is so much better than many of the losers with higher numbers!
Just seen in Italy, at a rock festival near Como...Just Amazing, miles higher than most of the artists listed here.V 1 Comment
