Doctor Strange Movie Review

MegaSoulhero Doctor Strange is the 14th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the 6th comic book movie to come out in 2016! Before watching this movie, I had very little knowledge about Doctor Strange. But I found this movie to be very enjoyable!

The movie is about a doctor named Stephen Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, who gets into a car accident causing his hands to get messed up. This movie kind of has a hand fetish. So he goes to some ancient place where they help him heal his hands and he learns how to use magic. I must admit, the visual effects in this movie are amazing! This movie is a total mind trip! I watched this movie in IMAX 3D and it looked incredible! There's a scene in which Stephen Strange goes through the multiverse and I was blown away by that scene! Another thing I really liked was Benedict Cumberbatch's performance as Stephen Strange! He was definitely perfect for the role! I didn't particularly like the character earlier in the film but as the movie goes on, we really start to care for him! I really look forward to seeing him again in the MCU! Chiwetel Ejifor(?) as Baron Mordo really brought his character to life! He was one of my favorites! And Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One was very good! Strange has a love interest named Christine who also happens to be a doctor and she is very helpful and not someone just thrown in there to constantly be saved!

This movie isn't perfect however. One problem I have is the humor. This movie has a lot of jokes! Some of them are pretty funny but sometimes they come at the wrong times. There are moments that are supposed to be serious and moments that are supposed to be epic but sometimes they get ruined by a joke! That Beyoncé part was hilarious though! Also, after giving us so many movies with forgettable villains who pose no threat, what do they do? They give us a forgettable villain who poses no threat! I honestly didn't like Kaecilius. I just didn't find him very interesting and he was pretty underdeveloped. Even though I stated that the visual effects were awesome, there's a CGI character in the film and the CG on him honestly looks terrible. There was also this very awesome fight scene in the middle of the movie that takes place in New York, but the scene was so cool that it made the final fight scene look weak in comparison! The final fight scene was still very impressive though!

This may not be the best comic book movie to come out this year, but I still really enjoyed it! Definitely worth checking out! Be sure to watch it in 3D! Totally worth it! And I am totally looking forward to the next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2!

Score: 8/10

I personally wish that there was a lot more action in this movie. Normally I wouldn't say this, but the amazing reality bending action was easily the best part of the movie to me, so I was somewhat disappointed by how much there was. - visitor

I'm not a fan of the trippy visuals. Good review. - Cyri
