Best Metal Albums of the First Half of the 1970s (1970-1974)

The Top Ten
1 Master of Reality - Black Sabbath

This album is far better and more metal than the "Paranoid"

There are 5 songs in the album that are insanely heavy for 1971: Sweet Leaf, After Forever, Children of the Grave, Lord of This World and Into the Void

Unfortunately I wasn't born before 1971, but if I would, I would pretty sure this album would rocks me off!

2 In Rock - Deep Purple

I'm pretty sure lot of metalheads knows this song: Accept-Fast as a Shark (1982)
So, you can hear a similar sounding guitar riff and drum track in the song of "Hard Lovin' Man" and a similar Drum Track in the "Child in Time" what you can hear at Diamond Head's "Am I Evil? " (1980)... Yes, more than a decade before this 2 songs!

3 In for the Kill - Budgie
4 Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

Not just the beginning of heavy metal, the beginning of doom metal too! Tony Iommi did it with his powerful riffs!

5 Volcanic Rock - Buffalo

"Shylock" is a proto speed-thrash metal song before Queen's "Stone Cold Crazy"

6 Machine Head - Deep Purple
7 Paranoid - Black Sabbath
8 Mournin' - Night Sun

A very, very obscure and underrated album by a german metal band

9 Demons and Wizards - Uriah Heep
10 Budgie - Budgie
