What she did from True Blue to Hard Candy was the ultimate career. Not only did she constantly re-invent herself, she also became so influential that she dominated the entire game. What she released became a trend, and she was one of those great minds of the 90s that used music to start a public debate, like Eminem or Marilyn Manson, just that with her it was more about sexual.
She tip toes on a thin line between mainstream and art, especially in the 90s and early 2000s, that sounds extraordinary but was still easy and pleasant to listen to. "Ray of Light" offers warm, harmonic and galactic soundscapes, while "American Life" shows a bizarre contrast between minimalistic folk and heavy distorted synth lines. Those are her two most creative efforts.
In the meantime, Lady Gaga took her place, and may I say she is a worthy heir, but this is propably what caused her 2010s albums to be such generic pop.

This list contains a lot of talent. Just remember one of the women who took a stand and paved the way for many of the others. She continues to do that even today. That is why she will always be remembered.
