81GenesisGenesis are an English rock band formed at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey in 1967. The most commercially successful and long-lasting line-up includes keyboardist Tony Banks, bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford and drummer/singer Phil Collins.

They are simply the most talented people to ever exist. An immensely brilliant band who made piles of breathtaking songs.

The 70's Genesis produced some of the most amazing music out there. Their guitarist Steve Hackett innovated two hand tapping and sweep picking (Not Eddie Van Halen or Malmsteen). Tony Banks is one of the most original and tasteful keyboardists out there, same with Phil Collins as a drummer. Mike Rutherford had some great bass lines and Peter Gabriel is a great singer with a unique voice. Together, they produced at least 7 amazing progressive rock albums. Yet they're not as famous as some of the "poser" rock bands out there (that's how I describe bands like AC/DC, Van Halen, Kiss...). - RalphSaad

The fact that Genesis is so low on this list proves that society is a complete failure. They are the greatest band ever... no other band can sound like them. Ever.

No. 86? WHAT. How. It's insane that they are this underrated!

82Tom Petty and the HeartbreakersTom Petty and the Heartbreakers are an American rock band from Gainesville, Florida. In 1976, the band's original lineup was Tom Petty as the lead singer and guitar player, Mike Campbell as the lead guitarist, Ron Blair on bass, Stan Lynch on drums, and Benmont Tench on keyboards.

Probably not deserving of the number 1 spot, but at 75? Seriously? They have several great deep cuts that are just as good as, sometimes exceeding, their hits. They have been around for almost 4 decades and are very consistent, putting out new material every few years instead of cramming so much in 1 decade then going on a huge hiatus with few new material afterwards, and while their highs aren't quite as good as the likes of Pink Floyd or other artists, their lows aren't even remotely close to being as bad. If you're not convinced, check out Tom Petty's Buried Treasure on SiriusXM. It has everything from hits, to deep cuts, to cover songs, and other artists from Tom's personal record collection, both live and studio, old and new. Good stuff.

Tom Petty and the heartbreakers are my favorite band of all time. They are so underrated because their music is unique and just classic. His music is untimely and I will listen to him until the day I die.

No disrespect to anyone on this list but these guys are total stand out. Listen to them live, they can cover anything as well as playing variations of their own classics. As the man says " just a hard working rock and roll band.

83Joy DivisionJoy Division were an English rock band formed in 1976 in Salford, Greater Manchester. Originally named Warsaw, the band consisted of singer Ian Curtis, guitarist and keyboardist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris.

If Ian wouldn't have gone in his inner depression, the band would've kept on going with him, and would have become an international icon. And wouldn't be part of this list. I say so because Joy Division's two actual albums and singles Love Will Tear us Apart, Dead Souls and ATMOSPHERE are all soaring masterpieces.

91The SmithsThe Smiths were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982. The band consisted of vocalist Morrissey, guitarist Johnny Marr, bassist Andy Rourke and drummer Mike Joyce.

Morrissey + Marr = Songwriting masterpiece. So sad we won't be hearing any more masterpieces, because in my opinion, there is no other artist that has or will ever come close to The Smiths. Better than Beatles. Better than Stones. And especially better than Queen.

Honestly one of the most, if not THE most underrated bands ever. One of the very few bands that I can listen to every album of there's from start to finish without skipping.

Everyone likes The Smiths, but one one really sees their skill. They were a very talented rock band!

92Queens of the Stone AgeQueens of the Stone Age is an American rock band from Palm Desert, California, United States, formed in 1996. The band's line-up includes founder Josh Homme, alongside longtime members Troy Van Leeuwen, Michael Shuman, Dean Fertita, and recent addition Jon Theodore.

One of the greatest rock bands of the 21st century, made of incredibly talented musicians. They had a few songs on the radio, but they deserve more. It saddens me to think that hundreds and thousands of people will never get to hear them because of crappy, plastic, commercial rock being shoved down their throats and pushing these guys out of the way. They swap genres constantly and make some of the greatest rock songs I have ever heard.

Queens of the stone age, by far the best the music industry has to offer currently besides the Foo Fighters and Eagles of Death Metal.

I'm just wondering how they're underrated on a list of underrated bands. these guys should at least be within the top 20.

So underrated they're underrated on a list for underrated bands.

While they enjoy critical acclaim and commercial success I believe they still don't have what they deserve

There are a lot of underrated good bands here, but cream is always ignored. Their guitarists was none other than Eric Clapton, and they played some of the best blues rock ever.
