Top Ten Artists That Are the Best at Their Genre

The Top Ten
1 Jackie Evancho - Classical Crossover Jacqueline Marie "Jackie" Evancho is an American classical crossover singer who gained wide recognition at an early age. Since 2009, she has issued an EP and eight albums, including a platinum and gold album, and three Billboard 200 top 10 debuts. Evancho's latest album 'The Debut', was her eighth consecutive ...read more.

And "crossover" she does: Classical, Opera, Jazz, Pop, Traditional, Soundtrack, Christmas, whatever. Everything she does is top drawer.

The Princess of Classical Crossover. There is no one like her.

She sucks and that's a fact. Even Ariana Grande is better and that's saying something.

This young lady has the music in her. Music.

2 Michael Jackson - Pop

For the first 10 years of his career, MJ was the Justin Bieber of his time; he was not even considered a serious artist until he teamed up with Quincy Jones for "Off the Wall". To have him, or anyone, ahead of the Beatles is a joke.

Definitely the best at his genre. No doubt about that. He's been an inspirational figure to other pop singers and there can be no modern pop singers that can equal what he's sung.

I never admitted pop would be so great until I met hi. His beats to the songs are great and his voice is, well unique and he moreover called the King of Pop.

He's better then swift that's for sure!

3 Metallica - Metal

If they had just released their first 5 albums then maybe. Unfortunately, they released some crap as well which kinda drags them down a fair bit.

St anger and lulu may suck but load and reload are still metal you idiots. it piss me off when people hate a band cause they change

Lets see whisky in the jar, for who the bell tomes, and sand man are all very good

Metallica really defined what music really is. They're just awesome.

4 Eminem - Rap Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III, is an American rapper, actor and music producer born on October 17, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Eminem has sold over 300 million records making him the bestselling hip-hop artist of all time. In addition to his solo career, he is a member of D12 and (with Royce da 5'9") half of the hip-hop duo Bad Meets Evil. Rolling Stone ranked him 83rd on its list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, calling him the King of Hip Hop. Including his work with D12 and Bad Meets Evil, Eminem has had ten number-one albums on the Billboard 200 and 5 number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, and 13 worldwide.

To this guy who said, that Eminem said that Tupac was the best rapper; he didn't. In his song "'Till I Collapse" he clearly mentions his list: "Reggie, Jay-Z, Tupac and Biggie, Andre from Outkast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas and then me." I disagree with his list, as he should be higher than that.

Eminem said Tupac is the best rapper himself. Eminem sucks. He has a grating voice and is sexist and homophobic. If you start saying " he had songs that inspire you, tell a story, and make you cry" he stole that entire style from Tupac. His only good song is "Not Afraid."

Amazing rapper but I think Kendrick Lamar is the best rapper.

No! He Sucks! He has said himself that 2Pac is the best rapper.

5 Elvis - Rock N Roll Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977) was an American singer and actor. Dubbed the "King of Rock and Roll", he is regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century. His energized interpretations of songs and sexually provocative performance style, combined with a singularly potent mix of influences across color lines during a transformative era in race relations, led him to both great success and initial controversy. ...read more.

In terms of voice, yes. But he most of his songs were covers and the ones that weren't covers, he didn't write. And he wasn't that good at guitar. Chuck Berry wrote his songs, and was one of the best guitarists ever. Elvis just stole his style from black artists, but his vocals are some of the best ever.

Biggest solo artist of all time, and second-biggest seller, only The Beatles have sold more.

Originally called "The King of Rock and Roll", but most people just refer to him as "The King".

Chuck berry was better

6 The Beatles - 60s Pop

What kind of an idiot classified the Beatles as 60's pop? Probably the same kind of idiot who thinks they are any kind of runner-up to Michael Jackson.

Saying The Beatles were just 60's Pop is the incomplete statement of the century.
With really no comparison, they were and are the GOAT: Greatest Of All Time.

Damn, I love the Beatles. Well I wouldn't say love, just like.

What the hell? they're rock, psychedelic rock, they're more classic rock than pop

7 Queen - Rock

I love Queen! Bohemian Rhapsody is one of my favourite songs and is also the one song I ask for when I do karaoke. Don't stop me now and I want to break free are also great songs and memorable too.

I love Queen, but when were they ever hard rock.

Queen is the best rock band periodt, no one can tell me otherwise.

The best rock band of all time.

8 Nirvana - Grunge

I don't know how the hell this list makes any sense, because it's asking for the best artist in their respective genre, not the very best artist overall. So if I say Nirvana is the best at grunge because they're my favorite band, I'm basically saying that AC/DC isn't as good because it's not grunge. Nirvana is my favorite, but what if AC/DC is just as influential and iconic as Nirvana but in its own respective genre? And it's not just AC/DC, it's each artist on this list, whether I like them or not.

Definitely! Not to mention, alternative overall! They glamorized 90's music! People everywhere loved them! They're legends! Go Nirvana!

Nirvana are good, but I think that Alice In Chains are heaps better.

I prefer Pearl Jam. Nirvana is so much overrated

9 Iron Maiden - Heavy Metal

Pleased to see maiden at the top, but it is rightly so. Memorable riffs and solos by the Dave and Smith, perfect bass and songwriting by Steve Harris, ' awesome drumming by Nicko, all pioneered by the strong vocals of bruce. People who don't really know about metal and vote for metallica blindly, just listen their songs. They have been consistent for years, with loads of good songs ( almost 85% of their songs are awesome: unlike some other metal bands). Sad to see Megadeth so low for thrash Metal in this list. :'(

Steve Harris' right hand is the stuff of wonders. How he plays bass like that is insane, not to mention his song writing abilities is awesome. The rest of the band are top notch musicians as well

Maiden are the greatest metal band ever, and one of the greatest bands of all time. They ooze cool, with wonderful riffs and solos and the powerful voice of Bruce Dickinson (and DiAnno, maybe not Bailey)

I love everything about Heavy Metal and everything about the emperors of heavy metal: Iron Maiden. Their very own symbol is badass.

10 Deadmau5 - Progressive House

One of the most integral electronics artist to the gerne ever. Not only did he innovate the genre but he also brought it to a more mainstream audience. I love deadmau5.

The Contenders
11 Joe - R&B
12 Moby - Electronic Moby is an American musician, who has produced inventive new styles to various subgenres of electronic music, inspired by 1950's gospel as much as by modern rock, and musicians from New Order to David Bowie. ...read more.
13 Ludwig Van Beethoven - Classical Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer and pianist. A crucial figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in Western art music, he remains one of the most famous and influential of all composers. His best-known compositions include 9 symphonies, 5 piano concertos, 1 violin concerto, 32 piano sonatas, 16 string quartets, his great Mass the Missa solemnis, and one opera, Fidelio. ...read more.

Beethoven was indeed amazing composer! He was very important in the transition from the light, Mozart-like Classical classical music to the more artistic, emotionally, expressive Romantic classical music, paving the way for later composers such as Chopin, Liszt, Bartok, Wagner, Mahler, Stravinsky, etc... His monumental symphonies and beautiful piano sonatas are some of the greatest classical music pieces ever, and his works have so much emotion and just plain awesomeness in them. Beethoven is the greatest Classical composer.

A great composer, possibly the greatest ever, but we have absolutely no idea how he was as a performer, which every other name here is based on.

Isn't he supposed to be the greatest.

I prefer vivaldi

14 Louis Armstrong - Jazz Louis Armstrong, nicknamed Satchmo or Pops, was an American trumpeter, composer and singer who was one of the most influential figures in jazz.
15 Maxwell - Neo-soul
16 Blind Guardian - Symphonic Metal Blind Guardian is a German power metal band formed in the mid-1980s in West Germany. They are often credited as one of the seminal and most influential bands in the power metal and speed metal subgenres. Heavily influenced by Queen, they use the technique of overdubbing. They also incorporate large amounts of orchestral arrangements. Hansi Kürsch creates a huge choir effect by overdubbing his own voice multiple times in complex, overlapping harmonies. Thanks to overdubs and numerous backing vocals Blind Guardian stand out with a very dense sound.

This is what people call a master class (Wheel Of Time, Sacred Worlds, The Throne).

17 AC/DC - Hard Rock

What the (Highway to) hell?

18 Blind Guardian - Power Metal Blind Guardian is a German power metal band formed in the mid-1980s in West Germany. They are often credited as one of the seminal and most influential bands in the power metal and speed metal subgenres. Heavily influenced by Queen, they use the technique of overdubbing. I couldn't agree more. Several power metal bands are very good but Blind Guardian is the band with the stellar musicianship.

I would say that Helloween and Manowar are better.

I disagree. For power metal, DragonForce

Sabaton is better.

19 Jaheim - Hip Hop Soul
20 Electus - Chillstep
21 Ozzy Osbourne - Shock Rock
22 The Who - Classic Rock
23 Brian McKnight - Adult Urban Contemporary
24 Björk - Electronic Björk Guðmundsdóttir, (born 21 November 1965) is an Icelandic singer, songwriter, composer, record producer and actress.
