Top 10 Music Artists that Released Two or More Albums in One Year

EPs count.
Some music artists are prolific - this doesn't always mean quality but some of the albums released in one year were incredible.
I admit it was difficult to find a balance between quality and quantity of the albums by the respective artists.
The Top Ten
1 The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour (1967) The Beatles were an English pop rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were soon known as the foremost and most influential act of rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat, and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later experimented with several genres, ranging from pop ballads and Indian music to psychedelia and hard rock, often incorporating classical elements in innovative ways. ...read more.

From 1963 to 1965, the Beatles released two albums each year, and though there's an argument to be made for each Beatles album being a classic in its own right, the band released two unimpeachable classics in 1967: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in June, and the weirdest Beatles album of all, the Magical Mystery Tour movie soundtrack, just five months later.

They're basically one giant double album which makes them ever better.

And both albums are awesome.

Two classics in my opinion

2 Creedence Clearwater Revival - Bayou Country, Green River, Willy and the Poor Boys (1969) Creedence Clearwater Revival, often shortened to Creedence and abbreviated as CCR, was an American rock band active in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Nice to see them at the top. It's amazing that they had three solid albums in a year- I don't think that I would be capable of doing that. Unfortunately, I think the workload is one of the factors that contributed to their downfall.

I put them at #1 because they released 3 classic LPs consisting of 26 songs, 22 of which written by John Fogerty.
After the release of Willy and the Poor Boys in November 1969, CCR wouldn't release another album for a whopping eight months, 1970's also-classic Cosmo's Factory.

My mum probably did cartwheels of joy when this happened.

3 Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath, Paranoid (1970) Black Sabbath were a Heavy Metal band formed in Birmingham, England in 1968 by guitarist and songwriter Tony Iommi, singer John "Ozzy" Osbourne, bassist and main lyricist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward.

The band became mainstream after improving after their debut album got panned. In 1978, Osbourne was fired and replaced with former Rainbow vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Who went to release 2 albums before leaving in 1983, only for Osbourne to return in 1992. ...read more.

Yep yep. Two of the most classic and iconic Heavy Metal albums released by the same artist and in the same year. How rare is that?

Both are albums.

4 Queen - Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack (1974) Queen are an English rock band formed in London in 1970. The original lineup was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar, vocals). Before forming into Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor had played together in a band named Smile. Freddie Mercury was a fan of Smile and encouraged them to experiment with more elaborate stage and recording techniques. He then joined the band in 1970, suggested "Queen" as a new band name, and adopted his familiar stage name. John Deacon was also recruited to complete the line-up. ...read more.

For me, Queen 2 is far superior to Sheer Heart Attack. They're both good, but Queen 2 is the best out of both of them.

5 Elvis Presley - Elvis Country (I'm 10, 000 Years Old), Love Letters from Elvis, Elvis Sings the Wonderful World of Christmas (1971)
6 The Beatles - Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road - 1969

I count Yellow Submarine as George Martin's album, not Beatles. He contribute in more track than The Beatles.

7 Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited (1965) Bob Dylan is an American singer-songwriter, author, and artist who has been an influential figure in popular music and culture for more than five decades.

1965 saw the release of Dylan's first two "electric" albums, and arguably the best albums of his career: Bringing It All Back Home in March, and Highway 61 Revisited in August.

8 King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard - 5 Album 2017

These albums were all amazing and unique in their own way. I like Flying Microtonal Banana, an uncommon example of microtones in rock. The Beatles and David Bowie deserve to be on this list, but 5 albums! Each with a different character and style. Purely untouchable.

Revolutionary band, I mean, they did 5 albums in one year, and they released an album that is owned by the fans (Polygondwanaland).

9 Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II (1969) Led Zeppelin was an English hard rock band formed in London in 1968 as the New Yardbirds. The group consisted of Robert Plant (Vocal), Jimmy Page (Guitar), John Paul Jones (Bass, Keyboard) and John Bonham (Drums) and was very much the child of Jimmy Page who even financed their first tour. He had tasted some previous success with The [original] Yardbirds and was friendly with some big names in rock. Page states it was Keith Moon of The Who that claimed the band could only go down, like a lead balloon -- thus prompting the iconic name of Led Zeppelin. The band's heavy, guitar-driven sound, rooted in blues and psychedelia on their early albums, has earned them recognition as one of the progenitors ...read more.

Demons and Wizards is regarded by many fans and critics alike as Uriah Heep's best album. According to Allmusic, the album "solidified Uriah Heep's reputation as a master of gothic-inflected heavy metal".
Hansi Kursch of Blind Guardian named his second band after this album. He also did a cover of a song from this album (Blind Guardian - The Wizard).

14 David Bowie - Low, Heroes (1977) David Robert Jones, known professionally as David Bowie (January 8, 1947 - January 10, 2016) was an English singer born in London, the son of a fundraiser and a waitress. He is credited for his experimental and creative musical discography which has won praise and accolades for many critics and fans. The man who the world knew as David Bowie was an actor, a painter, a philosopher, and many other things. But first and foremost, and what he was known for most, he was a rock star, covering every genre from psychedelic folk to industrial. His influence on fashion, music, and pop culture in general remains as his legacy--along, of course, with his unforgettable music.

In 1977, he also co-wrote and produced Iggy Pop's first two solo albums - The Idiot and Lust for Life. That's a total of 4 albums between January and October of 1977.

They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical approach changed over the years. Originally formed as a progressive rock band, the band shifted to a heavier sound in 1970. Deep Purple, together with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, have been referred to as the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early to mid-seventies". They were listed in the 1975 Guinness Book of World Records as "the globe's loudest band" for a 1972 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre, and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide. ...read more.

Both are albums (Shades of Deep Purple is their debut studio album).
Deep Purple were very quick: they formed in 1968 and released 2 albums in the year of formation.

They released two good albums from their formation year.its pretty hard to form a band and release two albums at same year

I love this band so much they saved my life.

20 Uriah Heep - Salisbury, Look at Yourself (1971) Uriah Heep are an English rock band formed in London in 1969 that was one of the top rock bands in the early 1970s. Twelve of the band's albums have made it to the UK Albums Chart (Return to Fantasy reached No. 7 in 1975). Uriah Heep's distinctive features include a massive keyboard sound, strong vocal harmonies and (in the early years) David Byron's quasi-operatic vocals. They have sold over 45 million albums worldwide with over 4 million sales in the U.S, where its best-known songs include "Easy Livin'", "The Wizard", "Sweet Lorraine", and "Stealin'".

Both are albums and some of my favorite songs are on them. However, their best album came out later in the 70s.

21 King Crimson - In the Wake of Poseidon, Lizard (1970)

Poseidon still features Greg Lake on vocals, who sang on the debut.

22 Tupac Shakur - All Eyez on Me, the Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory (1996)
23 The Doors - The Doors, Strange Days (1967)
24 Taylor Swift - Folklore, Evermore (2020)
25 The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Take It From the Man, Their Satanic Majesties' Second Request, Thank God for Mental Illness (1996)

3 albums - in just 5 months they released 3 albums, consisting of 49 tracks in 3 and a half hours.
Like Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Brian Jonestown Massacre somehow managed to release 3 albums in a single year, but BJM outdid CCR in two ways.
1) all three of BJM's 1996 albums are over an hour long, while CCR's didn't break 40 minutes.
2) while CCR released its first 1969 album in January, BJM didn't release its first 1996 album until May, which means that in just 5 months, the BJM released 3 albums with 49 tracks in 3 and a half hours.
