Top 10 Music Genres That Got Worse Over Time

Sometimes the "it's not like the old days" saying really does mean something, almost all our our genres of music have been mushed together to a clump of slightly different kinds of club music. By the way, this is in the charts. There is still TONS of great new music out there, you just have to look harder!
The Top Ten
1 Country

How to write a country song in three easy steps:
- Take a three-chord pop song
- Change the lyrics to include references to tractors, beer, and "my baby's gone"
- Add slide guitar and backing vocals.

I miss the days of Johnny Cash and Jimmy Buffett.

Country has gotten so bad to the point where it's not even real anymore. And mixing country with rap? You can do better than that.

Johnny Cash is rolling in his grave.

I hate to say it, but country's gotten bad, and everyone knows it. The classic themes of American life have been reduced down to, well, Coors, pick-up trucks, and women.

I would've liked country if it wasn't for country turning into Pop with a southern twang. The sad part is that Country is the only music genre I DISLIKE.

2 Pop

Pop by now is a very gray term. Pop has been used to describe artists such as Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, and of course, Michael Jackson. But by now the term is viewed as what's on the radio today.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean everyone will agree with you.

3 Rap

Rap is a disgrace. There's the pointless inaudible noise about sex offenses made to look normal, and even the most seemingly meaningful rap song is hiding false propaganda built around their vanity. They exploit their ego to support their lies up to the point of making it today's common sense, and use it as an excuse for attacking others for their fame and money. Case closed: it has only done bad for music. It's an industry of scandal.

Rap lyrics in the 90s
"We gotta make a change. Its time for us as a people to start making some changes. Let's change the way we eat, let's change the way we live and let's change the way we treat each other. You see the old way wasn't working so its on us, to do what we gotta do to survive."
-Tupac Shakur-Changes (1998)

Rap lyrics now
"All I want for my birthday is a big booty ho. All I want for my birthday is a big booty ho."
-2 Chainz-Birthday Song (2012)

While rap has always had songs about women and money, and I'm sure every genre has, today rap has basically boiled down to JUST women and money, and marijuana, too!

I guess the music industry just forgot grandmaster flash and the furious five.

4 Alternative Alternative rock is a style of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1980s and became widely popular in the 1990s. In this instance, the word "alternative" refers to the genre's distinction from mainstream rock music.

Before: Amazing. Alternative is rock with a touch of indie. So, before, you have rocking bands like Nirvana, My Chemical Romance, Pearl Jam, Coldplay, Green Day, R.E.M., Radiohead, etc.

Now: You can't hear any rock. All of it sounds like that annoying type of bubbly electronic music you hear on the radio mixed with plenty of indie. Conclusion: It sucks. Period.

5 Reggae
6 Rock Rock music is a music genre that was created in the 1940s. The genre was popular during the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s. Notable rock bands and music artists include The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen, Van Halen, Foo Fighters,... read more

Basically now just another little sub-genre of "pop". I don't really want to say "rock" but that's what they call it today!

7 Metal
8 R&B
9 House

Deep House became incredibly popularrecently. It can be good, but the majority of it serves as a threat to the genre. Focus on progressive/electro house, which is much more inspiring and unique.

10 Death Metal

I'm just putting in death metal to fill space. I'm not a fan of it, but I'm pretty sure death metal has remained as it has always been all these years, for better or worse.

The Contenders
11 Dubstep

There's some dubstep that's actually good. People think it's bad because of stereotypes like Skrillex.
