New Feature: Member Blog Posts

admin As a few of you have noticed, members of TheTopTens now have the ability to create their own blog posts. It has taken quite some time since this feature was first suggested by preachinpreach, but the basic version of it is finally here.

Moving forward, the plan is to better integrate your blog posts into the rest of the site, but before doing so, now is as good a time as any to discuss some of the do's and don'ts regarding blog posts.

For the most part, we want your blogs to be whatever you decide. You can write about top ten lists, how your opinions differ from those of other on the site, or things that are completely unrelated to TheTopTens.

When doing so, however, please note that we prefer blog posts that are non-spammy, non-offensive (for people with reasonably thick skin), moderately coherent, and of some interest to readers such as ourselves. While we are not going to put together a formal list of rules and guidelines (unless it becomes an issue), just keep in mind that we will reserve the right to edit or delete blog posts that are full of profanity, advocate illegal activities, contain excessively hurtful or abusive content, are spammy in nature either because of excessive links or commercial content, or otherwise go against the spirit of TheTopTens.

Also, for the time being, we are allowing limited HTML to be included in the blog posts. This is to give you the ability to add links, stylize text, etc. Please do not abuse this freedom. If your posts are causing problems for visitors to TheTopTens, it will be much easier for us to simply delete them than to edit them.

That said, we have faith that there will be far more people contributing valuable content to TheTopTens than troublemakers which is why we added member blogs in the first place. We have reviewed all 40,000+ comments that are currently being displayed on TheTopTens and if they are an indication of what your user blogs can be, we are very excited to read what you will have to say.

Hopefully the new system for adding blogs, editing blogs, and moderating comments is self-explanatory, but as always, if you have any questions or comments, please let us know.
