Top 10 Best Oasis Songs

The Top Ten
1 Don't Look Back in Anger

I've loved this song since the first time I heard it in high school. I mean, I've been a fan of Oasis since the very beginning. There are so many of their songs that I cherish. But again and again, I gravitate most often to this one. The Beatles-esque feel of the song's arrangement - including those opening chords from John Lennon's Imagine - still manages to maintain a raw Oasis feel at the same time. Then, of course, there are the lyrics and that chorus. I dare you not to sing along when that chorus kicks in. Your entire existence builds up to that chorus in a way that not many bands have been able to master or even mimic.

2 Live Forever

This is a ridiculously good song, and although there is a lot of competition, it has to be their best. Most people would say "Wonderwall" just because of its commercial success, but this is literally one of the best rock songs ever. The intro drumming, which was originally layered over some acoustic picking, sets up the song brilliantly. Also, the guitar, although relatively simple, fits in perfectly with Liam's rare but interestingly affectionate singing, accompanied by brilliant lyrics.

But in my opinion, the guitar solos ultimately make this such a good song. With the first one, it drifts effortlessly around the song, but the other solo brings a power to the song that is also reflected in the lyrics. Although "Wonderwall" and "Don't Look Back in Anger" always grab the headlines, other songs from "Definitely Maybe," such as "Cigarettes and Alcohol" and "Rock and Roll Star," should easily make it into the top ten list. Seriously, "Definitely Maybe" is probably the best debut album ever, and that's a feat since most bands produce their best songs and are at their most creative on their first album. I guess it shows what fame does, as bands often drift aimlessly like Oasis. Nonetheless, "Live Forever" is their best song.

3 Wonderwall

I don't know what to say. Every time I hear this song, I cry. I was in third grade, and my first crush and I danced to this song at a school dance. It's to this song that I told her I liked her. I'm 25 now, but you always remember your first crush. From the pictures (which sadly got ruined), we looked adorable according to my mom.

This song was a big help. I used the song as a way to express myself since I had a lot of trouble telling her that. Plus, we both liked the song, I think. Unfortunately, I had to move after the school year ended a year or two later.

4 Champagne Supernova

Yes! Yes! Yes! This is not only the best Oasis song, but also the last masterpiece of all time in music (for now). This is a synthesis of the best of The Beatles, alt-rock, and all music in general! This is the best thing since The Beatles. I can't stop listening. I think this song should share first place with "Don't Look Back in Anger," and nothing more! P.S. I don't understand the hype for "Wonderwall" at all. There is nothing impressive about this song!

For me at least, "Champagne Supernova" represents all that Oasis could have been. Even though they are legends, their career was forever relegated to being considered "Beatles imitators." They were also burdened with the challenge of living up to the enormous shadow set by their first two records. Through all my years of listening, it remains clear that Oasis has a distinct sound. Being categorized under the "Britpop" genre has limited Oasis from being considered not only one of the greatest and most successful rock bands ever, but also THE greatest.

"Champagne Supernova" is forever the exception. This song is where they truly shone their brightest. It provided just a tiny glimpse of that transcendent, world-igniting talent that the world was begging for in the '90s. The song defied all they had created up to that point. The variety in melodies, the sharp changes in tone throughout, and the masterful blending of '60s acid pop with contemporary anthemic arena rock were all extraordinary. For seven minutes, it became clear that Noel Gallagher had a legacy he wanted to secure. And with this song, he completely knocked it out of the park.

And perhaps most astonishingly, for those seven minutes, Liam actually sounded like he cared.

5 Supersonic

I have had a long think about why this is my favorite Oasis song, and well, it's because of the wonderful rhyming of unexpected words. Instead of repetition, you hear different things mentioned throughout the song, like someone on a supersonic train, a doctor on a helicopter, selling the Big Issue. I won't mention all the lyrics in what I have just said. I'll leave it for people to listen to. The poetry in this song is brilliantly well put together. It's just as amazing as what one would expect from the greatest poets one would study in English Literature courses. I very much enjoy the steady-paced melody and the backing electric guitar music blending together very well. There's probably much more I can say about how I love this song, but I will go away and think about how to put my thoughts together.

6 Slide Away

A few years ago, I only had a few Oasis songs in my music collection. If I recall correctly, they were Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, and Little by Little. I wasn't really into Oasis at that time, until I heard this song. This song is at the top of my music playlist, even higher than Stairway to Heaven right now. There's something about this song that's so addictive. Even now, I won't get bored listening to it 100 times over and over. Even though I myself couldn't completely analyze the meaning of this song, it's obviously a love song. But it makes me realize that I haven't found that one perfect person that I want to be with. Of course, for other listeners, it holds different meanings. Nonetheless, this is an incredible song that is sure to last for generations to come.

7 The Masterplan

A carefully crafted masterpiece from Noel. The way the chromatically descending intro sucks you in is incomparable to anything else in their catalog. The rest of the song sounds so grand, with an epic flair that is unmistakably Noel's. Such an underrated hidden gem. You all should listen to it sometime.

Some of the best lyrics of all time. No truer line has ever been written than, "The answer's in the looking glass." Just like it always is. We have the power to do whatever we choose. We are always the answer to any question you want to ask. You have the power to change any outcome. Classic song!

8 Some Might Say

The heaviness of the guitars in the intro grabs your attention right away. The lyrics aren't Noel at his strongest alone, but Liam's singing makes them sound much better. Besides, the breakdown around 2:03 sounds like spaceships! Harmonizing from Liam and Noel is incredible. Their singing goes together like peanut butter and jelly.

This is my favorite Oasis song of all time. Personally, I think it is their best. The guitar is great, the lyrics are thought-provoking, and like many of their songs, it's good no matter your mood. Brooding, positive, melancholy, optimistic - this song has it all.

9 Whatever

What? I don't know why it isn't first. When I came here, I imagined that this was going to be the most voted, and that Wonderwall would be in second place. This song talks about your freedom, and it makes me feel happy and unchained.

I still remember the first time that I heard it on the radio. Absolutely brilliant. The end, with the guitar and the violins, is a masterpiece. The fact that it's not on any album makes it even more special. Fantastic.

The best Oasis song. I can listen to this song over and over again and never get tired of it. It is the first song by Oasis that I heard, and it changed my life. Great song, great band.

10 Morning Glory

The loud, massive power of "Morning Glory" makes it the number one Oasis song for me. The influences are numerous, including R.E.M.'s "The One I Love" guitar riff, and the Beatles' "Tomorrow Never Knows" song title in their lyrics. They also seem to be influenced by themselves: "All your dreams are made with strawberry lemonade" from "Talk Tonight."

The song is about battling cocaine addiction and then emerging into the world. ("Today is going to be the day all the world will see.") Sonically, there's no better sound. The watery wah-wah pedal riff, the amazing intro, solo, and outro all make this song number one!

The Contenders
11 Stop Crying Your Heart Out

This song should really be in the top 3 of this band. I feel that it has a soul, unlike Supernova and Supersonic. Of all the songs in the top ten, its tune alone sells this song and makes it too catchy. It can be chosen as an evergreen song in one's music collection. All other songs require multiple listens, whereas this song will capture your heart from the first listen.

There are way too many good songs that should be in this top 10, but this song gets my vote as I just can't stop listening to it. Even 10 years later, it's still one of my favorite songs of all time. Liam & Noel rocked together!

12 Acquiesce

Top 3 of their best songs. The raw sound and combination of Liam and Noel's vocals are incredible and incomparable. Probably the most underrated piece of work and should be recognized for its quality.

The perfect Noel and Liam song. I saw Liam perform this solo recently and got the crowd to do the Noel parts. It wasn't really the same. Hopefully, the Oasis flag will sail again.

Easily the best Oasis song. Wonderful lyrics, wonderful music, and one hell of a rock song. It shouldn't have been a B-side.

13 Stand by Me

It is quite frankly a package deal: the most brilliant video I've ever seen, with a great moral about appearances. The guitar riff is just amazing. It transcends you to another universe! The lyrics are amazing because they are not mainstream at all but spontaneous. "Made a meal and threw it up on Sunday" - brilliant!

Just goes to show that less is not always more! I've always loved the guitar work, the massive sound, and especially the heartwarming "brotherly love" moment when Noel joins in with the "Hey hey" just before the chorus. A true gem.

14 Rock 'N' Roll Star

I can't say I'm surprised this is so low on the list. This is such an underrated song! If you just listen to it one time, and that's all I'm asking, you'll see why. Plus, the lyrics In my mind, those dreams are real/Now you're concerned about the way I feel? are so clever and contagious.

This song just screams Oasis. Absolute genius from Noel here, perfectly representing the vibe Oasis had in the early '90s when their best music was produced. It's 10 times better than Don't Go Away and should be easily in the top 10. It's the second-best song on this album after Live Forever.

15 Don't Go Away

While this might not be Oasis' most commercially successful production, it is arguably the most emotionally powerful. In particular, the clear vulnerability in Liam's vocal line is astounding. The addition of horns and strings into the layering only adds to this. Although it would have been nice to hear more of a sense of the Mustique demo in the sound (perhaps to remove any remnants of Slide Away and give it a more unique feel), this song demonstrates a side to the band that is rarely seen in Oasis, and it is truly moving.

16 Cigarettes & Alcohol

Should be much higher. No song has ever summed up being young and on the scene in Manchester in the late '80s/early '90s better than this. I listen to this and it makes me feel like I can still make it happen - and we all can, you know. Inspiring and utterly Mancunian.

It's your youth encapsulated into a 5-minute song. It says everything you're feeling in 7 sentences of lyrics. It defines your adolescence and teenage years.

My number one is Live Forever, but this song is an absolute masterpiece and just sums up my youth.

17 Let There Be Love

I can't believe this song is so low on the list. It's one of the best tracks by Oasis. It's so beautiful, and the voices of Noel and Liam blend in so well. And well, I don't need to tell you about the lyrics - beautiful.

A seriously underrated song that should be in the top 5!

18 Listen Up

This is the best song Oasis ever made. It's not the most commercial or immediately catchy, but give it a good listen, and you'll be hooked for life! I think it's brilliant! It sounds like a tribute to David Bowie's "Heroes," which is also a fantastic song.

It's up there with Acquiesce and The Masterplan as one of the greatest B-sides. Great lyrics and an incredible vocal from Liam. This song is rarely mentioned, even by fans of the band.

One of the best Oasis songs ever. Extremely underrated.

19 Cast No Shadow

Rather predictably, Wonderwall sits at the top of the charts. Sadly, this unappreciated gem will never achieve those heights. It's a shame, really, considering it is well-written, meaningful, and the highlight of Morning Glory.

This song is wonderful! It really speaks to my heart.

"Bound with all the weight of all the words he tried to say.
Chained to all the places that he never wished to stay."

I've always loved this song. I read somewhere that it's about Richard Ashcroft's split from the Verve a while back, but I don't know how much truth there is in that. Regardless, it's one of their best songs.

20 Talk Tonight

Probably the best vocals of an Oasis track, ladies and gentlemen - Noel Gallagher.

21 The Hindu Times

Liking both late '60s psychedelia and early '90s grunge, my preference for Oasis songs is in the 2000s, not the 1990s. The live 1994 version of "I Am the Walrus" is the best Beatles cover ever, especially instrumentally. It's certainly not a mess, as someone "inexperienced" suggested.

What? This song is like an uplifting, spirit-type song. It should definitely be in the top 10.

The best song ever! It's about Hindu times.

22 She's Electric

Great vocals by Liam and great guitars. The lyrics are just great and difficult to understand, which is what a great song is, right? Every second of it is a masterpiece of music history. I love it. It's one of my favorite Oasis songs.

This is the best one. I don't know why it isn't higher on the list.

23 Half the World Away

It concerns me that one of the best Oasis songs of all time is sitting at the #37 spot. Clearly, there aren't many true Oasis fans visiting this page - just a bunch of people who heard Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger a few times on the radio.

Possibly the best lyrics that Noel has ever written. Good vocals. The rhythm guitar, while simple, is very relaxing, and the lead is simply beautiful. The atmosphere that this song creates is unlike any other song by Oasis.

It's absurd that 61 Oasis songs were mentioned before this one. This is a great song about not wanting to stay small. It emphasizes the importance of leaving home and doing something with your life.

24 D'You Know What I Mean?

It is long but actually a really good song. It could have just done with 2-3 minutes of filler removed. Interestingly, it uses the same chords as Wonderwall. But it's a highly underrated song; Be Here Now was just seen as bad.

How this is so low on the list is beyond me. From the opening guitar to the chorus, it's simply amazing, and Liam's voice makes the song what it is.

It was good enough that I wanted to learn it on guitar, even though I'm not much of an Oasis fanboy.

25 The Importance of Being Idle

Their first slight diversion from Britpop. A musical and lyrical masterpiece. Oasis at their best! "But I don't mind, as long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine."

Um, this is the greatest Oasis song? It justifies the time I waste and is an anthem for all young people out there!

Should be much higher. Probably the best from their later albums.
