Top Ten Most Overrated Metal Singers

The Top Ten
1 Ozzy Osbourne John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne was born on December 3, 1948. He is also known as ''The Prince of Darkness''. Ozzy is an English singer, songwriter, and television personality. He rose to prominence in the early 1970s as the lead vocalist of the band Black Sabbath. Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 and has since had a successful solo career, releasing 11 studio albums.

Ok, I'll give it to him. Ozzy's singing worked with Sabbath and his solo career. However, to be honest, his voice isn't all that great. Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die are still mediocre albums (Never Say Die sucks), and Ronnie James Dio was much better in Sabbath.

Listen to ozzy's voice makes me wanna puke its not beautiful its not pitched its not strong it has not anything. But listen to ronnie james dio's voice it so perfect you want to cry

He has one good hit song (Crazy Train) and it isn't even metal, it's more classic rock compared to other mucisians of the time like Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Black Sabbath etc. that are 100 percent better than Ozzie

2 M Shadows

Ozzy is not over rated neither is corey or dave but james I guess is

Not the most overrated but one of them

3 Dave Mustaine David Scott "Dave" Mustaine (born September 13, 1961) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, actor and author. Mustaine is best known as a pioneer in Thrash Metal, being the former lead guitarist of Metallica before his dismissal in 1983, leading to finding and becoming the front man of his own band Megadeth shortly after.

Overhated. His vocals do sound weird sometimes, but he's not bad at all. He sings fine in my opinion.

How is he overrated? Most people trash on his vocals, he is rarely praised as a vocalist.

He sounds like he's having a lisp in the chorus to Symphony of Destruction.

4 Corey Taylor Corey Todd Taylor was born in December 8, 1973. He is an American musician, author, and actor best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the Nu-metal band Slipknot and hard rock/alternative metal band Stone Sour.

I honestly agree. His vocal range is great but a lot of time he tries way too hard to be all tough and badass. Sometimes his screams are good though but overall they can also sound like that. His cleans are pretty good too.

In a way he's kinda overrated, but nonetheless, he's one of my favorite singers due to how he can scream like a demon to singing very soft. Listen to Wait And Bleed and you'll see what I'm talking about - TheDarkOne_221b

My favorite singer, and an extremely versatile one at that as well. I do think Corey is a Metal singer, though I do understand why some people dislike him or call him overrated.

Corey Taylor is one of few people on this list who deserves the attention and respect they receive. He's one of the best vocalists over the past 20 years.

5 Fred Durst William Frederick "Fred" Durst is an American musician and film director. Durst is best known as the vocalist of the nu metal band Limp Bizkit, formed in 1994, with whom he has released six studio albums.

Not overrated. I've never seen anyone praise him or his band.

Rap Rock Rap Metal Nu Metal same thing jesus christ

More like a metal rapper.

6 Phil Anselmo Philip Hansen "Phil" Anselmo is an American musician who is best known as the former lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Pantera. He currently is the vocalist of heavy metal bands Down and Superjoint Ritual.

I get your point but I wouldn't compare him with Corey. Anselmo changed his singing style in order to sound like a tough guy and this was a matter of choice. But Anselmo can also sing in a different way and I will always recommend the song 'Burnnn' from the 80s as a proof - Corey has never been able to sing like that.

Not sure if this pathetic wannabe-tough-guy loser actually thinks he can sing, or if he's aware that he sucks and is just in it for the money. He basically got famous because the guitar guy in Pantera got shot

Phil Anselmo is a racist. He's only famous because he was in Pantera. Not a good vocalist

I don't like Pantera, so I think Phil is overrated and the band is even more overrated.

7 James Hetfield James Alan Hetfield was born on August 3, 1963. He is an American musician, singer and songwriter known for being the co-founder, lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and main songwriter for the American heavy metal band Metallica.

James is NOT overrated. In fact, he's UNDERRATED. He doesn't get enough credit for how great he is as a songwriter and rhythm guitarist, in addition to his singing. Even if his singing has become more limited with age, he's consistently able to switch between raw, angry metal and soft beauty.

He was good in the 80s and 90s. But ever since St. Anger his voice has just gotten boring and not that great to be honest. It lacks aggression. So he instead feels the need to include stupid "yeah yeahs" in his songs.

I think he's starting to get boring after all these years. Sorry but I'm starting to lose interest in him.

This guy sucks worse than Nickelback. Metallica should've simply gave up.

8 Jonathan Davis Jonathan Howsmon Davis, also known as JD and JDevil, is an American musician best known as the leading vocalist and frontman of the nu metal band Korn.
9 Marilyn Manson Brian Hugh Warner, better known by his stage name Marilyn Manson, is an American musician, songwriter, actor, painter, multimedia artist, author, and former music journalist.

Kinda overhated at times actually.

Not a metal singer.

Should be higher.

10 Tom Araya Tomás Enrique "Tom" Araya Díaz is a Chilean American musician, best known as the bassist and vocalist of the American thrash metal band Slayer.

In most of Slayer's songs he sounds like he's fast talking and that's why I like only a few of Slayer's songs.

Honestly, I don't see how Slayer or Tom is in any way overrated. James Hatfield & Dave Mustaine are twice as overrated if you ask me.

The Contenders
11 David Draiman David Michael Draiman is an American songwriter and the vocalist for the band Disturbed as well as for the band Device.

He has a good voice, but when he does those unnecessary "AH AH AHS" in the middle of verses it brings his music down. I like Disturbed though

12 Chester Bennington Chester Charles Bennington (March 20th, 1976 - July 20th, 2017) was an American musician, singer, songwriter and actor, best known for being the lead singer of Linkin Park. Before he was known for Linkin Park, Bennington was the lead singer of post-grunge act Grey Daze who was heavily inspired by Stone Temple Pilots they released two albums with Chester before his death. Wake Me and No Sun Today,... read more

Amazing vocalist and guaranteed to be timeless in the upcoming years, but he himself admitted that Linkin Park is not Metal. Also, his voice gravitates towards Rock, Punk, Alternative and Grunge instead.

I don't think he sings metal so why pay attention to him.

He was not that great. Also, I don't think he's a metal singer.

13 King Diamond Kim Bendix Petersen, better known by his stage name King Diamond, is a Danish heavy metal musician. He is known for his extensive vocal range, usually sung in falsetto. King Diamond was originally known as the vocalist for Mercyful Fate, but has become notorious for his horror themed Concept albums ...read more.
14 Chuck Schuldiner Charles Michael "Chuck" Schuldiner (1967-2001) was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist, best known as the founder and vocalist, guitarist and bassist of the American heavy metal band Death. He is considered the most influential figure in Death Metal, with some publications referring to Chuck as the "Godfather of Death Metal". Schuldiner died in December 13, 2001 of brain cancer, his death... read more

His voice is sorta hard to get used to, especially if you're listening to Death for the first time, but he is not overrated. At least he's talented unlike Glen Benton or Chris Barnes.

I love Death, but to me, Chuck didn't create death metal. He even admitted it himself. In my opinion, Possessed are the true creators of death metal.

Deserves his praise.

15 Andy Biersack Andrew Dennis "Andy" Biersack, formerly known as Andy Six, is an American singer and pianist. He is the founder and lead vocalist for the American rock band Black Veil Brides, and is its only remaining original member.

Of course, there are many better vocalists than him... Most of the people just love him because of the way he looks.

16 Benjamin Burnley Benjamin Jackson Burnley IV is an American musician, composer, and producer, best known as the founder and frontman of the American rock band Breaking Benjamin.

Go see him at #5 on the list "Top Metal Singers". His singing style isn't even metal. By the way, do you think he sings metal? I don't. That's called overrated.

Breaking Ben is one of my favorite bands, and he sounds great on the record, but if you look up videos of them live, his voice is HORRIFIC

Since when did he do Metal?

17 Chris Barnes Chris Barnes is an American musician mainly noted for his deep-throat vocals, explicitly violent lyrics. Barnes was a founding member of Cannibal Corpse before his dismissal and would later form Six Feet Under, which he fronts to this day.

Very boring death metal vocals

18 Papa Emeritus Papa Emeritus, alias Tobias Forge is best known as the lead singer of the masked Swedish band Ghost. He is also the lead singer of the death metal band Repugnant and Swedish rock band Subvision
19 Dani Filth
20 Serj Tankian Serj Tankian is a Lebanese-born Armenian-American singer-songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, poet, and political activist. He's best known for being the lead singer of the Armenian/American rock band System of a Down. After System of a Down's hiatus in 2006 he began to release solo material. Some of his solo songs include: The Sky is Over, Lie Lie Lie, Harakiri, Baby, Empty Walls, and more. His solo albums and EPS include: Elect The Dead (2007), Imperfect Harmonise (2010), Harakiri (2012), Jazz-iz Christ (2013), Fuktronic (2020), and Elasticity (2021) on top of that he has gone on to perform soundtracks for films in recent years.

Deserves his praise he the GOAT.

21 Alexi Laiho Alexi "Wildchild" Laiho (April 8th 1979 - December 29th 2020) was a Finnish guitarist, composer, and vocalist. He is best known as the lead guitarist, lead vocalist, and founding member of the melodic death metal band Children of Bodom. He was also the guitarist for Sinergy, The Local Band, and Kylähullut.

I like Children of Bodom, but I'm not a fan of the monotone vocals of melodic death metal bands. Either sing properly or if you're going to growl, growl with some aggressive music. Enough said.

Not overrated.

22 Mitch Lucker Mitchell Adam "Mitch" Lucker was an American musician and lead singer for the deathcore band Suicide Silence.

Compared to artists like Prince and Ray Charles (different genres but same principle), Mitch had made almost zero impact in the music industry, even after his untimely death. Not only did he have extremely limited vocal range, his lows were horrible unless he was cupping the mic, especially during live performances.

Definitely overrated nowadays by scene kids due to his death. His death was unfortunate, but that doesn't change the fact that he was a godawful vocalist with zero skill or technique.

Metalcore is the only bad type of metal I know about.

23 Alice Cooper Alice Cooper is an American singer, songwriter, musician and occasional actor whose career spans over five decades.

Overrated, flashy excuse for a musician. The Eagles are better than this walking pile of crap.

He isn't a metal singer. Never been.

24 Cronos
25 Zack De La Rocha Zacharias Manuel "Zack" de la Rocha (born January 12, 1970) is an American musician, poet, rapper, and activist best known as the vocalist and lyricist of rap metal band Rage Against the Machine from 1991–2000, and after the band's reunion in 2007 until their last show in 2011. He left Rage Against the Machine in October 2000, and embarked on a low-key solo career. With former Mars Volta drummer Jon Theodore, de la Rocha also co-founded One Day as a Lion in 2008.

Deserves his praise, kinda underrated maybe even. Also, he's a rapper, not a singer.

Rage Against the Machine isn't nu-metal though... they're alternative metal

Yeah... I don't really like mainstream nu metal.
