2 Metal

Back in the good ol' days! It's lost a lot of steam on this website recently, but this always used to be the dominant genre. And it was really fun when it was.

I've found an appreciation for it. I guess it must have been lurking somewhere in the depths of me..

You can't go on this site without seeing a list or comment about Metal.

True. There are lots of metalheads on this site.

3 Pop
4 Alternative Alternative rock is a style of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1980s and became widely popular in the 1990s. In this instance, the word "alternative" refers to the genre's distinction from mainstream rock music.
5 Punk Punk rock is a subgenre of rock music. It usually has rebellious lyrics and down stroked power chords played on guitars. Bad Religion, Sex Pistols, and Green Day (actually pop-punk, which is still punk in a way) are a few punk rock bands. The subgenre influenced thrash metal because of it's down stroked guitar playing and other factors.

Punks not dead, 'enough said

6 R&B
7 Country
8 Hip-hop

I would say most overhated on this site, to be honest.

Hip-Hop is a culture.

9 Grunge Grunge (sometimes referred to as the Seattle sound) is a subgenre of alternative rock and a subculture that emerged during the mid-1980s.
10 Jazz Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, United States, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and developed from roots in blues and ragtime. Jazz is seen by many as "America's classical music".

Jazz is a genre I respect a lot because it takes talent. Jazz and metal have several things in common: both are among the genres with the most complex music, both put a great emphasis on musicianship and technical aspects of the performance, i.e. how difficult it is to play a solo or do the vocals. Not only metal but also jazz offers some amazing guitar work. Several metal guitarists often use jazz tunes and techniques in their solos. And last but not least, even though metal is very popular on this site, jazz and metal are not very popular in general, compared to pop and hip-hop/rap.

I love jazz. I may have mentioned it once or twice. Maybe three...
Did I tell you I love Jazz...?

The trumpets, the saxophone and VOCAL, DUH!
