Yona (ヨナ, Yona) is the titular protagonist of the manga and anime series, Akatsuki no Yona. She is the princess of the Kouka Kingdom, the only heir of Emperor Il, and the reincarnation of the Red Dragon King Hiryuu. On her 16th birthday, she was forced to flee Hiryuu Castle after her father was murdered by Soo-Won. Screw Yui, Hinata and whatever the girl's name from Amnesia is this is the only character with development.
My sister watched Yona of the Dawn. She really likes Yona a lot!
Yona has really nice character development
She actually tries to help and isn't useless.
If Tamaki wasn't my favorite character, it would be Haruhi. She's just so different from most shojo protagonists. I really like how she really isn't a girly ditz, she's smart and doesn't care about the fact that she has to pretend to be a guy.

The story of Saiunkoku is not so popular so most of you might not know who Shuurei is. I put her as number 1 because she is hardworking, talented, kindhearted and she had risked her life to help people.
These characters are all very well-written(at least,the ones I know),so much better than likes of Yui (Diabolic Lovers) or Heroine (Amnesia).
Is this supposed to be the girl who acts all goth and the guys have to try to make her normal or something?

While a lot of people call this girl useless, to me they're not really thinking it through. After watching the anime for the second time, I realized that there are good and logical reasons as to why she seems weak and useless.
As a bonus, the guys in this anime as really the hottest I have ever seen.
Awayuki Himeno is the main character of the Prétear series and the long awaited Pretear of the Leafe Knights. I almost forgot to add her to the list. Himeno is a great character. She sacrificed her life to save the others.
