I'd also like to say that there was not so much technology, so people actually went out and socialised for real.

Korn, Soundgarden, Neurosis, etc.
No thrash metal band will rule the world like Metallica did. Metallica was the best metal band of the 80s. Let alone thrash.

Arguably one of the best decades for movies. I like 80s movies better than 90s films, but overall both decades had CLASSIC films.
Almost all my favorite movies are from this time period! (Flight of the Navigator, Back to the Future, Home Alone, etc. )
