Top 10 Reasons Why Knac-FM Should Come Back on the Air and Not "Fade to Black" Again

Pure Rock 105.5 KNAC-FM was a radio station based in Long Beach, California, known for playing hard rock/metal music such as Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Mötley Crüe, Guns N' Roses and many others. On February 15th, 1995, after nine years on the air, KNAC signed off with Metallica's "Fade to Black" and was replaced by a Spanish-language format. KNAC came back in 1998, but only on the internet at knac.com, which is still around now.
The Top Ten
1 Los Angeles has not had an FM radio station that plays hard rock/metal since KNAC's demise.

February 15th, 1995 was the day the music died.

2 Other than rock stations like KROQ and KLOS, L.A. has mostly rap, pop and Spanish-language radio stations.

The only metal band I can think of that gets played on KROQ and KLOS all the time is Metallica.

KROQ does not play any metal.

And they are awful.

3 The fact that there is a revival in the hard rock and metal scene is one of the reasons fans want KNAC back.

There's been metal in LA for over a decade, KNAC should not have gone away.

No one promotes metal in L.A. anymore like KNAC did.

4 Even without regular airplay, several KNAC regulars (including Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Kiss, Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth) are still selling out sizable venues and have been enjoying resurgence in popularity.

Not only does this prove that metal is alive and well, but it tells us exactly why KNAC should return to FM radio where it rightfully belongs. There is no radio station like KNAC that could promote bands like that.

Whoever's in the radio industry, please pay attention to what's going in today's metal world!

I wear my KNAC t-shirt at a metal concert all the time.

See this stat and listen radio folks!

5 Fans in L.A. can hear metal on the radio on KLOS with Full Metal Jackie from 10 P.M. to midnight on Mondays, and Horns Up from 9 P.M. to midnight on Saturdays, hosted by former KNAC on-air personality Stew Herrera.

I want to be able to turn on the radio and know that there is a station that plays music I actually want to listen to.

But that's not enough. I wanna hear my metal on the radio again every day.

Need. More. Metal.

6 There is no FM radio station in L.A. that plays demos by local hard rock/metal bands before getting signed.

It's a sad statement on music in general. KNAC could help.

7 There is an audience of hard rock and metal fans wanting to hear their favorite bands on the radio 24/7.

And I am one of the legions,

I am one of them!

8 Other than Horns Up and Full Metal Jackie on KLOS, several radio stations in L.A. don't play some of KNAC staples, such as Slayer, Megadeth, Testament, Anthrax, XYZ, Bang Tango, Armored Saint and many others.

KNAC was the only radio station that had the ability to play this type of music. It's not every day that you hear this type a music on KLOS or even KROQ or K-Earth 101.

Saw Armored Saint a few months ago. Great show. Promote more metal.

9 L.A. doesn't have a radio station that plays new music by hard rock/metal bands.

KLOS has been playing the new Metallica song "Hardwired", especially not on Horns Up. Other than that, yeah we need a radio station like KNAC in L.A. that could play some new music from bands like Opeth or Testament.

We need to see more of the black & white on the streets ( I mean the KNAC bumper sticker) Duh!

10 L.A. doesn't need any more corporate radio stations.

That is the real reason why KNAC should come back.

The Contenders
11 L.A. radio today sucks

It has sucked since 1995.
