Top 10 Reasons Why Super Mario 64 Is the Best Mario Game Ever

This does not at all refer to the DS version. This all refers to the original N64 version. Super Mario 64 is the true top 1 best Mario game ever, and at least the top 2 best Nintendo game ever! Overall, this is at least the top 5 best video game ever. I am on par whether the underrated Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins or Super Mario 64 (on the Nintendo 64 and Wii Virtual Console and even the more poorly known iQue Player, not the DS version) is the true best Mario game ever.

Super Mario 64 gets over 1000/100 stars, the DS version gets 61/100 stars.

The Top TenXW

1The Graphics/Visuals

This game has the best graphics for any Mario. It's detailed, creative and realistic. Why do they get so much hate in general?! Just love these graphics, please!

Why do the visuals of the N64 version of Super Mario 64 get so much hate? Even critics love it. Come on! The polygons may give eyesores to us, but this game has the best graphics for any Mario.

This is just ridiculous. I love this game but the graphics are horrible. Al of the other systems improved upon the specs. Face it. - HeavyDonkeyKong

It has the worst graphics for any Mario. The old games were top of their era, while this was just a baby for 3d games. The polygons hurt my eyes.

"It has the worst graphics for any Mario.", what a false thing to say! Face it, this game's graphics are perfect for any Mario.

2Shifting Sand Land and Snowman's Land

Top 15 Greatest Super Mario 64 Courses (minus the beyond perfect secrets)

Top 1: Shifting Sand Land (20+/10 stars).

Top 2: Snowman's Land (20+/10 stars).

Top 3: Dire Dire Docks (20+ stars).

Top 4: Lethal Lava Land (20+/10 stars).

Top 5: Whomp's Fortress (20+/10 stars).

Top 6: Tick-Tock Clock (20+/10 stars).

Top 7: Jolly Roger Bay (20+/10 stars).

Top 8: Tiny Huge Island (20+/10 stars).

Top 9: Cool Cool Mountain (20+/10 stars).

Top 10: Big Boo's Haunt (20+/10 stars).

Top 11: Tall, Tall Mountain (20+/10 stars).

Top 12: Big Boo's Haunt (20+/10 stars).

Top 13: Wet Dry World (20+/10 stars).

Top 14: Bob-Omb Battlefield (20+/10 stars).

Top 15: Hazy-Maze Cave (20+/10 stars).

I am not referring to the courses of the original version, not the DS version.

This deserves the top 1 spot. Two of the greatest levels in the top 1 greatest video game ever get at least 1000000/100 stars.

These two level's weren't my favorites, but that's not to say they're not good!

3The Courses

All the courses in Super Mario 64 get over 1000000/100 stars. I especially love Shifting Sand Land and Snowman's Land.

The courses in its DS remake, however, get 55-75/100 stars.

4Its Nostalgia Level Is Very High

This video game makes me very nostalgic. There is nothing I do not like about Super Mario 64, except for the Bowser kidnaps Peach business (which went downhill since Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World), nor even the camera angle (which I am actually adept with). I only have the DS version, though. I would strongly prefer the N64 version and even the Wii Virtual Console version.

5The Music

The music is upbeat and cheerful at times, like in Bob-omb Battlefield (it's catchy). It can sometimes sound menacing (Ultimate Koopa is an example, it's a great theme for Bowser). And Jolly Roger Bay has a beautiful tune to match the calmness of the water levels. This game has great music!

And who can forget the Wing Cap or the Staff Roll? - smrpg1996

Especially the wing cap music of course, I could never hate this game and I will never hate it.

6The Secrets

Whether it's the red switch mission, the green switch mission or the blue switch mission, this game will always be the top 1 best video game ever or so AT LEAST the top 2 best video game ever. I am on par whether Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins and Call of Cuty: Modern Warfare 3 are the true best video games ever besides Super Mario 64 for the N64.

7The N64 Version Is Way Better Than Any Other Video Game

I strongly agree with you. Best graphics, best music, (almost) best EVERYTHING! This does not refer to the DS version at all.

HeavyDonkeyKong, Super Mario 64 (N64) is your top 7 favorite video game ever. But maybe you like it a little more due to nostalgia. Ah, punching Goombas in the face...

8The Wing Cap

I love the use of the Wing Cap! It's so fantastic, and it provides the top 1 best music track of all time ever!

9The Usage of 3D Gameplay

Man, I love how the 3D gameplay is! It's so amazing!

Man, Mario has his best design in this game, and Supermarioglitchy4 made things even better.

10The Bowser Levels

I especially love (with all my heart) Bowser in the Fire Sea. This is a reference to the N64 version.

Graphics suck but listen to the music in these levels... if only the ds version had less awkward controls - HeavyDonkeyKong

The Contenders

11Mario's Design

Mario's design has aged horribly but back then looking at a 3D Mario Game was graphical NIRB+VANNA! - HeavyDonkeyKong

12It Revolutionized Gaming
13It's very fun

This game is very funny instead of this new games.

14The Sliding Missions

Man, they're so fun with beautiful backgrounds!

15The Level Designs
16So Much Creativity
17Dire Dire Docks
18Superb Controls

If the ds version had better controls, I might like the DS version better! However, the controls int he DS version are very awkward in my opinion! - HeavyDonkeyKong

19All of Its 120-star Missions

I especially love the Red Switch Cap missions. It gives me perfect memories.

20Not too easy, not too hard

It's only too easy when fighting the big bob omb and its only too hard with Mario wign over the rainbow (sorry if I got the name wrong! ) - HeavyDonkeyKong
