Ever since their debut album they immediately made a impact. What separate them from the alternative metal sound is their lyrics. They do not settle for cliche subjects like heartbreak, breakups and love. They composed songs about social problems, conspiracy theories. Pete is a genius with metaphors. They are not afraid to experiment but also stay with those classic songs. Chevelle is definitely a band that can rock out with the best of them.

You have to give them credit for attempting to change their sound but the fact of the matter is their first two albums are way better than a nothing that followed
Their first few albums were absolutely amazing. Yes they changed their sound and I personally like their past sound better. But their music has not gotten worse at all, its just extended a bit and they are trying new things. The quality itself is better. They are still amazing, eventhough I still think their best album was A Rush Of Blood To the Head.
Not at all. Not even a little bit. Coldplay wrote amazing songs, and even though they didn't change their style, their overall songwriting just decreased in quality. - Songsta41

They've drastically improved throughout every album. Stump's voice is amazing!

Not getting better over time, DM (2008) was their first really good album since the black album (1991), and that wasn't nearly as good as ride the lightning (1984). Metallica is a classic, their one good recent album doesn't mean they're necessarily improving - Songsta41

These guys inspired me to come to this list! Their first album was messy and didn't sound good, and as I scrolled through their discography, I realized I liked every album more than the last one. That happened until I was done looking through it. Pink Floyd has been getting progressively (pun intended) better all their career and they deserve to be number one on this list. - Songsta41
