Top 10 Rock Songs of the 21st Century with the Greatest Guitar Solos

The Top Ten
  1. Afterlife - Avenged Sevenfold

This song deserves to be here. Synyster is undoubtedly one of the greatest guitarists of the 21st century.

  2. Blackbird - Alter Bridge

One of the best songs in the 21st century and with one of the best solo guitarists of the decade and top twenty of all time. People, all those who say that Avenged Sevenfold or Linkin Park is a better band than Alter Bridge are wrong. Just because of their fans and fame doesn't mean they are better.

Be realistic and listen to the songs and albums they have. Don't be silly. Their vocalist and solo guitarist are unbelievable. Trust me, I won't let you down.

Amazing solo where it builds up into an insane heavy section. Not to mention, this is one of the greatest modern epics in rock music, certainly Alter Bridge's magnum opus.

  3. The Psalm of Lydia - Nevermore

  4. White Flag - Fates Warning

  5. Dani California - Red Hot Chili Peppers

  6. Revelation to the End - Pagan's Mind

A very creative and epic solo from Jørn Viggo Lofstad, the extremely talented guitarist from an equally talented and underrated band.

  7. 27 (Curse or Coincidence?) - Nightingale

  8. Winter Madness - Wintersun

This is, without question, one of the greatest guitar solos in the entire genre of Melodic Death Metal, a genre known for its combination of melodic and technical guitar work. The fact that it stands out among so many songs is a testament to the masterpiece that is Winter Madness.

Great stuff. Sounding arrhythmic the first time, often revolting against the simple four-four time almost all bands subdue themselves to. However, that's just an additional indicator of its unconventional beauty. Definitely something different!

  9. Clown Parade - Annihilator

Two amazing solos. Fast and technical.

  10. Upper Levels - Angra

All I can say is, groovy.

  11. The Newcomers
  12. ?

    Blackmail the Universe - Megadeth

  13. ?

    Extinct - Moonspell

  14. The Contenders
  15. The Day That Never Comes - Metallica

Metallica is timeless. Gates being first is a joke. I mean, he's good, but.

  16. Strike - Primal Fear

Awesome twin lead guitars and harmonies. Fast, long, and melodic solo.

  17. The Trend - Annihilator

Three solos. Two short ones in the intro and one regular one later. Three solos is pretty unusual and unique. Overall, amazing guitar work. Jeff Waters never disappoints.

  18. I.V. - X Japan

  19. A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation - Trivium

  20. Frontiers - Omnium Gatherum

  21. Doesn't Remind Me - Audioslave

  22. Breaking All Illusions - Dream Theater

  23. Anastasia - Slash

Unbelievable. The solo is the best guitar piece I've heard in recent years. I think Slash's new material is quite unknown and underrated. It is easily equal in greatness to Guns N' Roses, and every classic and hard rock fan should give it a listen.

For the song Anastasia, just give it one minute, and if you're a guitarist yourself, I can guarantee you'll want to learn it after one minute of the song.

  24. Constant Motion - Dream Theater

This should be under A7X. Dream Theater is super underrated because of their long songs. This song has a long, amazing solo.

  25. Stricken - Disturbed

Awesome melody with a kick-ass solo and pro lyrics is what makes this song great.

  26. Insomnia - Kamelot

  27. The Great Pandemonium - Kamelot

  28. Dracula - Iced Earth

  29. Invincible - Muse
