Top 10 Best Shoujo Manga

When it comes to the best manga, we often see titles like Naruto and One Piece dominate, leaving our beloved Shoujo manga overlooked.

So, this is a list of the best Shoujo out there! I hope you enjoy it.
The Top Ten
1 Ouran High School Host Club

Definitely the best for me. The characters are all well-rounded, and who couldn't love the host club? (Spoilers! You have been warned...) Especially Tamaki's emo attitude! And the plot has many twists and turns, some of which can beat the sanity out of you!

Bisco Hatori is probably the best author out there yet, with her humorous comments and heart-breaking storyline which keeps you reading Ouran over and over. When you've finished the story, it just makes you swoon and cry out "WHY IS THIS IT?!" at the same time.

The lively attitude brought through all of the mishaps and mischief keeps you choking with laughter right to the end! I recommend this to every manga fan, whether boy or girl! 1st place definitely!

2 Kaichou wa Maid-sama!

I really like it. Usui is so hot. It's so cute when Misaki and Usui are together. I prefer that it'll be really nice if she writes more. I'm in love with it. It's the best manga I've read till now. I really wish I was in Misaki's place. I really envy her. She looks pretty in the maid outfit. It suits her well.

I can't believe I read the manga more than 5 times and I'm still not bored with it. In fact, I don't think I'd be bored of it. I think everyone should read it. Even if they think it's not nice, they should give it a try. I'm sure they will like it.

3 Skip Beat!

First off, Skip Beat shows Yoshiki-sensei's style in drawing. It's rather different, to a point that some of my friends don't like the drawing, but hey, it's still very good. And when an exceptional, quite unique style of drawing couples with a unique, refreshing plot that has almost every dose of genre and amazing characters that people can relate with one way or another, Skip Beat is really one of my all-time favorite manga after 8 years of reading manga and counting. It's really recommended.

Also, while the story ships Ren and Kyoko, I don't know why people can hate me and all, and maybe I do have first love attachments, because Shou x Kyoko also have so much feels. I love you, Yoshiki Nakamura sensei!

4 Dengeki Daisy

It started off with a cliché hook of "I'll always protect you." But then it turned out to be so much better with a new and interesting plot. The book manages to keep the familiar ties with the shoujo mangas we know and love, while making it more realistic and easier to relate to. There's also a complete new in-depth and more nuanced view on the characters, rather than the standard scenario where a lonely hot guy meets a simple girl who thinks she's ugly and plain but is really pretty. The art style is also beautiful, and on top of that, the manga artist is male, which makes this manga even better! In my eyes, this is the absolute best shoujo manga out there.

5 Gakuen Alice

Having finished this manga, Tachibana-sensei is my No. 1 mangaka, and this is my number one shoujo manga. While I'm still hoping that the ending isn't an end yet, that it could be continued, Gakuen Alice will have readers enroll in a school of feels where you can laugh, cry, squeal, shout, and everything.

The plot of this manga started as if it was kind of an easy-go-lucky heroine changing hardships to bliss and stuff. While this happens, the depth of the story is so deep you can see Adele rolling. Sorry for that pun. And yeah, puns and comedic antics in this manga can be so hilarious you can hardly see it coming.

But anyway, I just love everything there is to Gakuen Alice, and as cliché as this sounds, really, no words can express how much I love this manga. Therefore, I can guarantee anyone, especially first to those who want great shoujo manga, second to those who love good plots, and third, to anyone who just wants to find a world you wish wasn't fictional or that you can be part of, I recommend Gakuen Alice!

6 Fruits Basket

This shoujo manga has just the perfect mixture of romance, life lessons, comedy, drama, and other psychological stuff. Reading this feels like you are actually with the Sohma family. You'll be heartbroken and won't wish to leave them so soon. Unlike those typical shoujo mangas where the problem is only about getting the hottest guy in school, this manga truly depicts how people are actually emotional because of real serious life problems.

The author creates such that you grow with them, since she draws the characters as if their features mature at some point of the story. The chemistry between the characters doesn't feel rushed, so you'll understand completely about how they develop feelings for each other. Overall, it's the best shoujo manga I have ever read, strongly recommended!

7 Sailor Moon

Ah... Where it all began. Even if you don't like this magical girl sensation, you have to appreciate that it, along with others, influenced the manga that we have today.

The tale of a normal school girl, who turns out to be a princess from another planet, saves the world along with her best friends. And of course, wins love from her true love over and over again.

With much respect, Sailor Moon takes first place and is a legend that will never be forgotten.

Best Manga EVER! I loved this manga. It revolutionized the shoujo manga world. Will remain in my heart forever.

8 Ghost Hunt

Well, it's more about ghost hunting and psyches than romance in general. But it's interesting to have the female lead alternating between being irritated and enamoured with the male lead because he is mostly ice-cold and rude in real life. However, he often appears in her dreams like some astral projection and becomes borderline angelic to her there. Their relationship is not boring, to say the least, both because of their obvious line of job and many of their cute moments.

Additional info is that there is a big bomb somewhere in the series, and because of that, I have never moved on from this series at all.

If you are not too much of a scaredy-cat, I recommend this manga.

9 Kamisama Hajimemashita

Even though I started this awesome manga series a month ago, finished, and saw all the anime, I want more. This manga takes normal fantasy and throws it out of the window. The villains, well, they do what they want and get away with it before the protagonist even has time to think. It's funny, beautiful, deep, and emotional all at the same time. Tomoe is just perfect as a character, the protagonist has the most awesome personality, and all the other characters just fit in perfectly. Who says Demons and a mortal Land God don't get along? This one, in the best way possible!

10 Clannad

To be honest, I'm not a fan of Clannad... At all. But still, I give it 4th place, because it still made me cry! And also, because people are nuts about it!

Clannad follows the life of Tomoya Okazaki, your average teenage boy protagonist, as he helps his cute friends with their life crises. Despite their stories being quite depressing, the characters stay happy, making you laugh at their unique charm. At first, it seems entirely average, but if you read between the lines, it's actually a very deep and heartwarming story.

The Contenders
11 Last Game

It's hilarious, it's refreshing, it's dynamic, it's innocent, it's honest. There is this boy who, despite being rich, handsome, smart, and talented, has flaws. And then there's this girl who is pure and dense to the bone but is independent, intelligent, practical, and strong. I adore the fact that Hisato is such a girl when it comes to Mikoto, blushing and becoming insecure, but still, he is manly and reliable (and very attractive). I kinda hated how slow Mikoto realized her own feelings towards Hisato, but when we finally know why she was so reluctant to admit them, then it makes perfect sense. I only wish there was more development with the secondary characters, but oh well.

The art is amazing. The jokes are hysterical (for me at least), and some expressions and dialogues are to die for. Hisato is effing sexy. The sweet parts are very, VERY sweet. And it's warm, and I don't know, so realistic. Like the definition of true love.

12 D.N.Angel
13 Kurobara Alice
14 Vampire Knight

The manga that didn't let me sleep a blink, I couldn't stop reading it. I thought I'd pick it up from where the anime left off, but then I was consumed by the first chapter. Reading it all over felt so refreshing, and I have to say this is one of the best love triangle/vampire romances ever!

As I type, my feelings for the amazing cast of Vampire Knight flood all over my mind. Mysteries unravel, plot twists here and there, perfect pacing, gets heart-wrenching as the story progresses. Read it and you won't regret it.

On a side note: Don't forget a pack of tissues. You might need it, for all we know.

15 La Corda d'Oro

Although I was a bit disappointed with the ending (okay, no spoilers), this is a very nice manga to read! The flow and the plot line were excellently made! It's all about music, and you just don't know how musical of a person I am. So give it a go!

16 Kimi ni Todoke

I'm absolutely in love with this manga. Well, both the manga and anime are great. It's adorable how the story develops. The main character, Sawako, starts off as a really shy but kind girl, who is satisfied with making others happy. She just wants to be a normal girl, have friends, and carry on the typical life of a student. She tries really hard but she still scares people, until Kazehaya shows up. He helps her win confidence in herself, introduces her to new people, helps the classroom to see a new side of her, and eventually, he falls in love with all the things she has to offer. Everything is perfect.

The supporting cast is also great. I have to admit I hated some of the characters as they were showing up (the antagonists, of course) but even the bad guys end up being cuties.

17 Momo

Momo was very interesting and cute! In this story, Mayu Sakai (also the mangaka of Sugar Soldier and Rockin' Heaven) tells the story of 16-year-old Yume Odagiri, who meets a little girl named Momo, who in reality is a self-proclaimed "Devil" that destroys planets that do not meet her requirements! Unfortunately, Earth is next on her list! When Momo asks Yume what her wish is, Yume simply asks to be special. Momo grants it and makes Yume the representative of the earth! Yume is now tasked with finding seven reasons the earth is beneficial to cute little Momo, or risk the end of the earth and all humanity.

With a supernatural theme, underlying motifs of love and family, and gorgeous art, Mayu Sakai shines in this lovely shoujo series. A must-read for fans of her other work!

18 Hana Yori Dango

I'm confused why this manga isn't one of the top fives. I recently read it, and I thought that it won't get out of my head. It is amazing how slowly the writer changes someone that is impossible to find love, ended up being someone who can't live without love.

I was drained in different emotions while reading and sometimes I thought that Makino and Domyouji would be impossible getting back together again. The rollercoaster, the hills, up and downs of the relationship were so amazing that it could make us cheer or cry at one episode.

19 Fullmoon Wo Sagashite

Never will I forget the moment I started and ended this manga. And I'm so happy it was my second.

Arina Tanemura is a manga artist no one can compare with. Many try to emulate her beautiful style, but none capture the emotion like her. And Fullmoon is her at her best, so it's given 8th place.

Misaki Koyama has one dream: to become a famous singer. But her vicious throat tumor is only getting worse, to the state where she will soon lose her voice. What happens next is for you to find out!

This manga goes where most don't, addressing suicide. And I think the way Arina Tanemura expresses this among the characters is somewhat frightening. My love for this manga will never fade. Ever. And I know many feel the same way.

20 Beauty Pop

Amazing! The female lead had the most hilarious personality! Instead of the always blushing and dependent female leads, she had the guy blushing. She was in control of him, without even caring! But she wasn't dense. She was in tune with her surroundings. She knew how to manipulate people around her. She's still a very nice person. Love her character!

The idea of this manga is really great! I mean, have you ever thought about a shoujo manga talking about hairstyling stuff? I do love this manga! Especially Kiri's character who always seems absent-minded, Narumi who always has a bad mood, Kei who is unbelievably cute (one of my favourites!), Ochiai who is really serious (and he has the name database of every student in his school), and the others. It's a must-read shoujo manga ever!

21 Boku no Hatsukoi wo Kimi ni Sasagu
22 Suki Desu Suzuki-Kun

I love Suki Desu Suzuki-kun! Though there are many mangas I'd prefer, I just can't let go of this one! Besides the shy and innocent Hoshino Sayaka and the cute and honest Suzuki Hikaru, I really love the second couple, though they're not the main attraction. But I really love how tomboyish but also girly Itou Chihiro is. And the future Shinobu is so cold but also cool!

There are mangas I actually like better, but the thing is, I waited half a year for one single update and was so happy when it came. And though it takes so long to update, I'm happy about every single update and will wait for every single chapter forever!

23 High School Debut

This is my all-time favorite manga! The characters weren't annoying. Also, I fell in love with the lead guy. You have to read this book no matter what. I literally finished this in 2 days. I strongly recommend you read this book.

To me, this is the best out of the best of what I've ever read.

I fell in love with it from the first chapter and couldn't stop reading. The story is really good, and the art is well done too. Without a doubt, this manga is a MUST-READ.

Among all, it is the best. It really is a romantic comedy. Their relationship is too adorable, and they never stay apart.

24 Tokyo Mew Mew

Before I watched Tokyo Mew Mew, I couldn't stand anime. Once my friend showed it to me, I was completely intrigued by the characters and plot, and it even got me watching plenty of other anime!

Tokyo Mew Mew was the first anime I watched, and I loved it a lot, even though my ship didn't sail. The manga is also cute, but I didn't really like the A la Mode part. Then again, this is a really cute one!

Tokyo Mew Mew is nice. But since she ends up with the wrong guy, I must admit I got pretty angry! It made me go mad! I don't even know why I voted for this anyways.

25 Nagareboshi Lens

It is such a great shoujo manga and definitely fits in the category as well.
