Top Shredders of All Time

The Contenders: Page 4XW

61Tosin Abasi

Obviously the best one here, but the best of all time is Allan Holdsworth. I haven't seen him on the list and Tosin Abasi is my favorite guitarist so I voted for him. And Synyster Gates is number 3? That's when you know when too many retards have access to the internet.

Tosin is not an all out shredder, but he can play some insanely difficult lines at quick speeds. I've seen a number of covers of the song CAFO and only 1 guitarist played the beginning riff correctly. He's not as quick as Yngwie, MAB and a lot of guys here, but he is the guitarist I respect the more than anyone. He knows when to shred and when to hold back which is what makes him a great shredder.

He's really underrated. He may not shred all the time but when he does it's pure epicness. You don't have to shred ALL THE TIME. It's about how good you can shred. Quality > Quantitiy. - Fretto

62Steve HoweStephen James "Steve" Howe is an English musician and songwriter. He is best known as the guitarist in the progressive rock group Yes.

The guy was shredding on a fat hollow body before half this list was born

Howe could have easily been the original shredder, but instead he worked with Yes to make great Music. Listen to his work on Starship trooper on Yessongs.

63Chris BroderickChristopher Alan Broderick is an American musician, best known as the former lead and rhythm guitarist of the American heavy metal band Megadeth.

This guy is amazing. Although he is underused in Megadeth, he is a monster guitar player.

64Jari Mäenpää

Genius guitarist, great guitar technique and feeling, he also plays keyboards and sings.

What the #### is wrong with you? How the hell did Jari did not even make this list? You're a bunch of noobs.

65Andy James

Listen to this guy he really can shred, his a complete player he can alternate pick, legato pick, tap, sweep he does all with great tone and clarity, he's the new legend of shred

He can play everybody's stuff and teach it

66Luca Turilli

He's insanely fast and clean ..but underated because his music isn't too comercial

67Alex Lifeson - RushAleksandar Živojinović, OC, better known by his stage name Alex Lifeson, is a Canadian musician, best known as the guitarist of the Canadian rock band Rush.

Okay really?! Have you never heard the working man solo It doesn't get better than that! - macrox16

70Eric JohnsonEric Johnson (born August 17, 1954) is an American guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist from Austin, Texas. Best known for his electric guitar skills, Johnson is also a highly proficient acoustic, lap steel, resonator, and bass guitarist as well as an accomplished pianist and vocalist.

He IS the best universal guitarist.
And as a shredder he deserves to be in the top 10.

Can't believe I had to scroll all the way to 78 to find Eric Johnson. I guess you guys just don't listen to much variety in you music at all.

Yes, smooth, fast, clean, lots of style and a joy to listen to. Deserves to be way much higher on the list. At least above Slash. Slash?

The smoothest speed I have ever heard, a true musician

71John McLaughlin

This is the worst list ever... John mclaughlin is the man who completely changed the way of playing guitar... He is the fastest and the most creative guitar player, just listen to his rich discography... In his composition west meet east and in that term the whole world music heritage... He is the guitar bible...

Agreed. But you will never see JM on any top 10 list. These lists are popularity contests, voted on by people with zero musical taste.

72George LynchGeorge Lynch is an American hard rock guitarist and songwriter. Lynch is best known for his work with heavy metal band Dokken and his band Lynch Mob.

In his prime during the 80s is vibrato was unmatched and his solos were very melodic

74Ian Antono

Rock guitarist from Godbless, ex Gong 2000. Great songwriter and producer. Inspiring million people in this country to play guitar.

75Antti Kokko
76Vinnie VincentVinnie Vincent is an American guitarist and songwriter. He is a former member of the rock band Kiss from 1982 until mid-1984 during the band's transition out of their 1973–1983 makeup period.

I'm not into glam metal, but Vinnie can really move his fingers. If you really focus on what he's playing, he does some pretty creative things. However, he's no Buckethead!

How come everybody forgot Vinnie? Listen to vinnie vincent invasion (his band) the solos can't be faster than that!

77Chuck SchuldinerCharles Michael "Chuck" Schuldiner was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist, best known as the founder and vocalist, guitarist and bassist of the American heavy metal band Death. He is considered the most influential figure in Death Metal, with some publications referring to Chuck as the "Godfather ...read more.

chuck Schuldiner is a technical guitar god, also very emotional, it's not the conventional death metal guitarist

Guitarist of Death already died was a fast guitarist...

78Jason Richardson

91?! This guy belongs to top 10 at least. I guess there is only a handfull of guitarists that can reach his picking and sweeping speeds while beeing totally clean.
