Songs With the Best Bass Performances

The Top Ten
1 Jerry Was a Racecar Driver - Primus

Les Claypool is arguably one of the best bassists of all time, and I think his unique style shows the best and is performed the greatest in JWRD. The song starts out with a heavy bass riff that stays strong for the entire song.

2 Freewill - Rush

I'm really not a huge fan of Geddy Lee. His vocals are annoying and his keyboard playing is only above average. But his bass riffs pretty much make me forgive his vocals. He has a classic rock style that classic rock fans adore.

3 Give It Away - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Say what you want about the Peppers, but you can't deny that their bass oriented rock is great.

4 Schism - Tool
5 Ace of Spades - Motörhead

Lemmy was a great bassist, and "Ace of Spades" was just one of his greatest songs. I was going to put "Overkill" in this slot, but the popularity and dominance of the bass lines in this song are one of a kind, and are as tough as Lemmy himself.

6 (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth - Metallica
7 Come Together - The Beatles

Possibly McCartney's best bass performance ever, it's soft but out-going at the same time.

8 My Generation - The Who
9 My Last Words - Megadeth
10 The Lemon Song - Led Zeppelin
The Contenders
11 Powerslave - Iron Maiden
12 Pictures of Home - Deep Purple

It includes a bass solo. A very pleasant song.

13 Under Pressure - Queen & David Bowie
14 Orion - Metallica
15 Roundabout - Yes
16 My Name is Mud - Primus
17 Peace Sells - Megadeth
18 YYZ - Rush
19 Around the World - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Flea plays like a boss here.

20 Sting of the Bumblebee - Manowar

Insane bass solo (shredding)

21 Money - Pink Floyd
22 J.A.R. - Green Day
23 Boris the Spider - The Who
24 The Invisible Man - Queen
25 For Whom the Bell Tolls - Metallica
