He ran home in the middle of the funeral and locked himself in his closet telling his mother "wake me up when September ends"

This is actually a story about the lead singer, his Dad died when he was like 8 and at his funeral on the first of September and in the middle he ran home and his mother found him in his closet and he said wake me up when September ends, this song was also played on my cousins funeral, she died when she was 13

From the movie "House of Flying Daggers", and the song's words are the lead character's dying thoughts, as she lays dying in the snow. when she sings "Oh, where are you? ; I need to tell you I still love you", its for her lifelong love, who is lying dead in the snow next to her. The haunting final acapella line "Your voice still echoes... in my heart" is her last thought as she dies.

Epic performance with instrumentation that takes it to another level.

Beautiful and sad song. I always remember thinking the lyrics were sad and something deeper and darker but I couldn't believe when I found out it was about a school shooting. I still love song though, it's incredible and conveys such a deep and important messages.

It's a sad song about a high school shooting, were the targets are the "cool" kids with the pumped up kicks.

Amy Lee is an amazing singer and her songs always reflect on her voice, and the true tragedy of life. While many consider this song to be lazily written, I understand the true meaning and emotions that are evoked in this song.
