Top Ten Songs You Didn't Know Were Rip-Offs

The Top Ten
1 Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin

Original: You Need Love - Muddy Waters
But Led Zeppelin probably ripped off another ripoff: You Need Loving' by The Small Faces.

2 Revolution - The Beatles

The Beatles also stole off Chuck Berry with Come Together which was Berry's "You Can't Catch Me"

They also stole You Really got a hold on me from Smokey Robinson & The Miracles.

3 Dazed and Confused - Led Zeppelin

Dazed And Confused is a cover, not a ripoff. It would only be a ripoff/plagiarism if they claimed it was theirs.

Original: Dazed and Confused - Jake Holmes.

4 In My Time of Dying - Led Zeppelin

Original: In My Time of Dying - traditional gospel song.

5 Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - Led Zeppelin

Yeah, but some of them are false rip off sues...
for example, Communication Breakdown is absolutely not similar to EC's Nervous Breakdown (just because both of them are Breakdown) or STH not that similar to Taurus' song... but unfortunately my favorite, the Dazed and Confused is a rip off :/

@Swellow - RE "Geez, how many songs did this band plagiarize? ". I know about more than 20 songs.

Original: Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - The Plebs.
But Led Zeppelin probably ripped off the Joan Baez cover version.

The riff or the lyrics.cause honestly I only hear this song for the riffs

6 Surfin' USA - The Beach Boys

Sweet Little Sixteen by Chuck Berry. It's the same song with different lyrics

7 Set Me Free - The Sweet

Original is Deep Purple's Flight of the Rat (thanks Metal_Treasure)

8 Bitter Sweet Symphony - The Verve

Original: The Last Time by The Rolling Stones. A lawsuit awarded all songwriting credit and royalties to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

9 Gangsta's Paradise - Coolio

Stevie Wonder allow them to released this.

I loved this song...

10 This Means War - Avenged Sevenfold

Obviously the original is Metallica's Sad But True.

The Contenders
11 Are You Gonna Be My Girl - Jet

Full copy of Iggy Pop's Lust for Life

12 Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) - Shakira

She also plagiarized Hips Don't Lie and copied a music video from another artist.

13 Crazy In Love - Beyoncé

Not a rip off. It's a sample.

14 Feel This Moment - Pitbull

The instrumental is from Aha's 1985 released song "Take On Me"

A-ha did NOT rip off Pitbull.
Pitbull rip-offed THEM.

15 Fireball - Deep Purple
16 Tear in My Heart - Twenty One Pilots

As soon as I heard the guitar play that first verse I knew it was plagiarized. A total rip-off. Although it is still a good song. Really Twenty One Pilots Really

Similar riff to Should I Stay Or Should I Go by The Clash.

17 Come as You Are - Nirvana

Eighties isn't original either. Check out "22 Faces" by Garden of Delight, "Life Goes On" by The Damned, and "Hollow Hills" by Bauhaus.

Original - Eighties by Killing Joke.

18 Warning - Green Day

The riff is from Picture Book by The Kinks

19 Down in It - Nine Inch Nails

Ripoff of Skinny Puppy's Dig It.

20 Surfin' Bird - The Trashmen

Straight rip-off of "Papa Oom Mow Mow" by the Rivingtons, though no lawsuits were ever filed.

21 Sweet Child O'Mine - Guns N Roses

Okay this sample is easily the worst Guns N' Roses cover I've ever heard. Don't think this is a ripoff though.

This is a rip off?

22 Never Really Over - Katy Perry

Rip off of I Love You Like That and the Macarena. Just like she did with Roar which ripped off Brave by Sara Bareilles.

23 Butterfly - Crazy Town
24 On the Floor - Jennifer Lopez
25 Prrrum - Cosculluela
