Most Talented Thrash Metal Bands

The Top Ten
1 Megadeth Megadeth is an American thrash metal band from Los Angeles, California. Megadeth was formed in 1983 by guitarist Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson, shortly after Mustaine was fired from Metallica. They have released 15 studio albums to date, and have gone through many lineup changes, with Dave Mustaine being the sole constant member.

They released their debut album “Killing Is My Business...And Business Is Good!” in 1985, but became successful after the release of “Peace Sells...But Who’s Buying?” in 1986. ...read more.

This list are placed by personal taste not for real knowledge, Nick Menza way above that the unskilled lars, Lombardo win for 1 stick, Ellefson is two picks better than Araya but is obviously beyond skilled than trujillo, Friedman it's the only one who can bang heads with Mustaine and is overwhelming the difference between them and the couple of kirkfield... sorry hetfield, Hanneman was the skilled but with King there are no more aggressive players in the history of thrash!

The battle will continue against Petrozza/Ventor or Urbinati/Watss/Rico/Pynn make a constructive contribution not vote by taste!

The combo of Mustaine and Friedman was great, plus Nick Menza on drums, just great lineup.

Megadeth is thrash metal, thrash metal is megadeth

Being honest Lombardo it's more than a virtuous in the drums, Hanneman was a wizard when combining evil melodies with thrash, king is a wild animal composing and Araya it's the perfect match in the bass/voice anybody knows something better? no... only Slayer!

Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King on guitar, Tom Araya on vocals/bass, and Dave Lombardo (best thrash drummer ever).

Their early lineup is better;
James Hetfield
Dave Mustaine
Lars Ulrich
Cliff Burton

-Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo are great too.

4 Annihilator Annihilator is a Canadian thrash metal band founded in 1984 by vocalist, guitarist, bassist, songwriter, engineer, producer, mixer and mastering engineer Jeff Waters and former vocalist John Bates.

OK then, lets make the names of the key players familiar (it's fast technical thrash so guitars and drums are most important):

Jeff Waters - guitar virtuoso, one of the 3 best lead G players in thrash, riffmaster, primary songwriter, primary lyricist and ... lead singer on 3-4 albums! Overall, one of the multi-talented metal musicians;

Mike Mangini - played drums on 25% of the band's songs. His name became familiar when joined Dream Theater (2011). It's strange how popularity works - Mangini was a great drummer 10, 15 and 25 years ago but he got attention when joined a very popular band;

Randy Black - played drums on 45% of the band's songs. He is awesome, too, but unlike Mike Mangini, he joined another underrated band - Primal Fear. So he will be underrated but I swear Randy Black is a better drummer than Nick Menza and Lars.

The names may be unfamiliar, but the have a very good technical sound that not a lot of bands can compete with.

5 Testament Testament is an American thrash metal band from Berkeley, California. Formed in 1983 under the name Legacy, the band consists of vocalist Chuck Billy, guitarists Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick, bassist Steve DiGiorgio and drummer Gene Hoglan.

Alex Skolnick not listed? I love him.
Jeff Waters, Marty Friedman and Alex Skolnick - the best lead G players in thrash.

6 Sepultura Sepultura is a Brazilian heavy metal band from Belo Horizonte. Their first album, Morbid Visions presented a proto-black metal sound with Wagner Lamounier of Sarcófago. Sepultura's sound varies by the album, from thrash metal, groove metal, and even death metal.

The Cavalera brothers were an excellent duo, Igor is one of the best thrash drummers ever and Max is an amazing bassist/vocalist.

7 Kreator Kreator is a German thrash metal band from Essen. Their style of music is similar to that of their compatriots Destruction, Sodom and Tankard; along with those three bands, Kreator has been referred to as one of the "big four" of Teutonic thrash metal, and they are often credited with helping pioneer death metal and black metal by containing several elements of what was to become those genres.

They have one of the fastest sounds ever, which is present in Pleasure to Kill. Not many bands can match their speed without being completely awful

Kreator are best thrash metal Band today...

Agree, Pete Webber is one of the good drummers from the new generation. Havok are good and yes - underrated.

Pete Webber is one of the best metal drummers ever, and he is in an extremely underrated band (Havok)

10 Dark Angel Dark Angel is an American thrash metal band from Los Angeles, California formed in 1981. Their over-the-top style (extremely fast, heavy and lengthy songs with lots of tempo changes, lyrics and extended instrumental parts) earned them the nickname "the L.A. Caffeine Machine". Although Dark Angel had never achieved a mainstream breakthrough in their initial career, their 1986 album Darkness Descends is widely regarded as a landmark in the thrash metal genre.

Gene Hoglan is one of the best drummer ever, he brought Dark Angel's musical sound up so much.

Agree - Gene Hoglan is a beast, Force Of Nature! Dark Angel is amazing - fast and heavy.
