Top 10 Worst Direct-to-Video Disney Sequels

This is a list of the worst direct-to-video Disney sequels. Some sequels got theatrical releases but the ones on this list didn't. Also, midquels can be included in this list.
The Top Ten
1 The Hunchback of Notre Dame II

This is my most hated Disney sequel of all time. I loved The Hunchback of Notre Dame and it's one of the best and darkest movies Disney has ever made. The sequel is just painful to watch. The plot is stupid and nonsensical, the villain is lame and boring, every character is shallow, the songs are horrible and the animation is ugly. At least Mulan 2 had some nice animation and colors and I liked the romance between the three princesses and Mulan's friends. But this one has nothing good. It's ugly, brainless and I hate Phoebus' and Esmeralda's son. This abomination has no redeemable qualities and should burn like Frollo wanted Esmeralda to burn in the first movie.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is one of my favorite Disney movies. I was thinking to myself, how bad could the sequel be? But then I watched MrEnter's review and, yeah, this movie sucks. I sat down and watched it myself recently and I definitely agree with everything MrEnter said. In the first movie, Quasimodo said his life would be complete if he was able to go out and enjoy life outside of the bell tower. In this movie, he sings about wanting a girlfriend. That makes two of us. He eventually gets a girlfriend named Madeline who is actually kind of hot. Unfortunately, she works for the villain in the movie. That kind of reminds me of Hercules. Also, the love interest being a traitor has been done many times! Of course since this movie had a small budget, the animation looks terrible! If you absolutely loved the first Hunchback movie, then I don't recommend this one.

2 Mulan II

UGH! This movie makes me angry! I wanted to punch every character in the face after watching this movie! They turned all the characters we loved from the first movie into terrible characters that we want to hate! Basically, Mulan and Shang take three princesses to an arranged marriage otherwise the Mongols will destroy China. Unfortunately, the princesses fall in love with Yao, Ling, and Po. Meanwhile, Mushu (voiced by a white guy) finds out that if Mulan and Shang marry each other, he will lose his job as royal guardian. So he tries to break them up. What a selfish jerk! By the way, you know that arranged marriage I was talking about with the three princesses? THAT NEVER HAPPENED! They basically doomed China! This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen! The animation is terrible, the songs are terrible, and they totally forgot what made the first movie so great! THIS MOVIE IS TERRIBLE!

3 Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Magical World

Okay yeah, the characters from "Mulan 2" have turned unlikeable for the most part, and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2" is just pathetic, especially compared to the original, but this one is the worst by far. It's not even really a movie, obviously unless you consider Belle and the Beast bickering like children for an hour and a half to be a "movie". It's just what they had so far from what was originally going to be a Beauty and the Beast T.V. show smushed together. The animation is a complete downgrade from the original, the movie cover is false advertising, the voice cast ranges from okay at best to just awful, and the scripts make it so that it feels more like a bad fanfiction with pictures on a screen than a movie. It's like they weren't even trying with this one.

There is nothing magical about this! There's not much to say about this movie since it doesn't really have a plot. It's broken into different segments. And they are all terrible! Also, the animation is atrocious! I understand they didn't have a large budget but this was very hard to watch. Remember that one scene where Belle had derpy eyes? I kept seeing that in my nightmares. I love the original Beauty and the Beast movie and this one almost ruined it for me!

4 Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World

Journey to a new world? What is this? Aladdin? I have mentioned before that I don't like Pocahontas. It was boring and didn't try to be historically accurate. However, in this sequel, they had her get together with John Rolfe (voiced by Billy Zane). Pocahontas and the other Native Americans get word that John Smith died (not actually dead obviously). How did they even find out about his death? Also, John Smith isn't voiced by Mel Gibson this time. He's voiced by Mel's younger brother, Donal Gibson. Radcliffe is in this movie and what is up with his mouth? The songs are terrible, the dialogue is awful, and this sequel is a disgrace!

This was worse than Mulan 2 for me. I am just going to pretend that I didn't watch this movie. It completely ruined the first movie!

I like the first movie it has a lot of good songs, this movie however doesn't have anything going for it. and why does she never end up with JOHN SMITH? what is the matter with disney?

5 Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas

A Beauty and the Beast Christmas movie!? That sounds like it will be good! I was definitely wrong about that! In this movie, Belle wants to celebrate Christmas in the Beast's castle. However, Beast hates Christmas because it's the day that he was cursed. There is also an organ named Forte who is voiced by Tim Curry. Still better than his role in Rocky Horror Picture Show. He's the villain in this movie and he actually enjoys being an organ because it makes him immortal. So he tries to keep the Beast isolated from Belle so they can't fall in love. For some reason in this movie, Belle is the one who wants to connect with Beast whereas in the original, Beast wanted to connect with Belle in order to break the curse. Belle has no reason to want to get together with Beast. This movie has a lot of plot holes. I absolutely hated the Beast in this movie! This movie didn't necessarily ruin the original for me but it was still pretty bad!

6 The Fox and the Hound 2

This has to be on the top 5! It makes no sense besides! Making a sequel of this is just TOO LATE since the original is from '81. The other is country filled music while the original is dark filled stuff. Besides, the original doesn't have anything related to this sequal! Those other dogs are just like rip offs of Lady and the Tramp & Oliver and Company

First of all, who even asked for a sequel to Fox and the Hound, let alone a midquel? In my opinion, Fox and the Hound was one of Disney's weakest movies. This sequel, however, makes no reference to the original movie. Basically, Copper joins a band and Tod gets jealous. Not only is this kind of plot cliché, it's stupid. You can tell they didn't put much effort into it.

I saw this once and I hated it. I wondered what Todd's life with Vixey would be like, and if Todd and Copper ever reconciled after the events of the movie. It lacks the charm of the original.

7 Cinderella II: Dreams Come True

If dreams did come true, then this sequel wouldn't exist! This movie tells three different stories and each of them are done very poorly. This movie is put together from a cancelled T.V. show. Each story involves Cinderella planning an event. Also, Lady Tremaine and the two stepsisters are in this movie. However, they only appear at the end. Just like most of direct-to-video Disney sequels, this had a very small budget which is shown based on the low quality animation as well as the voice acting. A lot of people consider this to be one of the worst Disney sequels and I can definitely see why.

Even though it's by far the worst of the three Cinderella movies, it's certainly a step up from Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Magical World because at least the animation is semi-decent here and actually has a framing device to tie all the segments together, unlike that Beauty and The Beast anthology "sequel."

8 The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea

Now, I've stated before that The Little Mermaid is overrated. Good but overrated. Out of curiosity, I watched the sequel and it sucked! So after Ariel and Eric got married, they gave birth to Melody (voiced by Tara Strong). This sequel kind of has a similarity to the first one since Melody wants to go in the ocean but her mother forbids her. Apparently, Ursula has a sister named Morgana who wants to avenge the death of her sister. Ariel is so scared of her that she has a wall be built between the ocean and the sea so Melody can't escape. Ariel is such a hypocrite! Not only that, the script is lazy! For example, Morgana has the EXACT same personality as her sister, Ursula. Right down to the voice. If you have to practically recreate the same villain then that is pretty lazy!

Pretty much a reversed plot of an already cringeworthy movie. I would give it credit for at least being enough to please my 6-10 year old self, but so was just about everything else. I liked some pretty questionably bad movies, but 10 seconds of these movies is enough to make me wonder how hard I could've been dropped on my head as a baby to have liked them at one point.

9 Aladdin and The King of Thieves

It's not the best, but it's still very better than the Return of Jafar!

This is actually good

10 Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure

This is the worst Disney direct-to-video film I have ever watched in my whole entire life! Look, the animation was great, some of the songs were mediocre, but everything else was bad. The directors and the writers didn't put a lot of action in it. They put a lot of rush into it. Scamp is annoying! Tramp turned from a fun-loving adult to a cold, stern, serious parent. Lady barely got any screen time at all. Buster was a poor villain. Him being angry and hating Tramp for falling in love with Lady has got to be one of the most stupidest reasons I have ever heard in my whole entire life! Look, don't get me wrong, I know that people can sometimes get jealous, but this... This is so unacceptable! Angel is probably the only character I can root for. Scamp is nothing but a spoiled brat who only cares about himself and his own needs. He doesn't care about his friends nor his family, and he has no regard for anyone else but himself. Scamp is so annoying and very unlikable people! I used to liked this movie when I was younger, even when I still grew up, I still loved it. But then, I started to realize how annoying Scamp was, how poor of a villain Buster was, how Lady never got any screen time, how Tramp became a cold, stern, and serious parent, and how miserable Angel is without a family. This movie is definitely the worst of the worst! That I will never like this film nor will I ever see it ever again! Thank god I got rid of my copy of the movie! Thank God! And if I were the director of the movie, things would have gone my way. I would improve it and make it look better than Darrell Rooney's version. I also destroyed the disc to it so it can never bother me again! Never! I wish this sequel never existed!

The Contenders
11 The Lion King 1 1/2

Sure, it's funny, but man, is it's timeline inconsistent. Timon's mom and Uncle Max go searching for him not too long after he and pumbaa find Simba, and they don't find him until Simba is a full grown lion. That means that they spent at least two years looking for them and they act like it was nothing.
Also, as soon as Timon and Pumbaa find their second home, the very next day, Simba is there singing "Can't Wait to be King." You can't honestly expect us to believe that Simba grew up that fast, can you?

I have mixed feelings about this. It's supposed to be the story of how Timon and Pumbaa met before Simba. Sure, interesting, but it also justifies most of the events of the original movie as being results of Pumbaa's farts. It was funny at first, but since that was the only joke they used in the entire movie, it didn't feel as funny.

I loved this film. And for those who hate timon and pumbaa: let's not forget that without them simba would be dead hundreds of time over in my opinion! They RAISED him, they're the REASON the climax even happened in my opinion!

12 Atlantis: Milo's Return

This is piece of trash! Like why does this exist!? It's not even a real sequel. It's a three episode arc which was suppose to serve as the pilot for the cancelled Atlantis series. And they were actually planning a real sequel to the first, but since the original didn't have much success, they cancelled it and replaced it with this crap.

I did not know Atlantis had a sequel honestly for a film some people didn't like that much.

Yeah this movie sucked. Nowhere as good as the first.

13 Kronk's New Groove

While the original movie had a very original story, this one had no originality at all. This movie has a very weak story and almost no structure. All of the jokes have been stolen from the original and making Yzma a furry was really weird in a bad way. The characters have been totally bulldozed to give room for the boring replacements that are the Birdwell person and Papi. Overall this movie sucks.

I loved the first movie, like it's so funny. But then there's Kronk's New Groove. I mean this isn't the worst sequel but it's still not very good. I mean the story has basically no structure and they took all of Kuzco's sass and hilariousness from the first and totally made his character unfunny and super cringe-worthy. And like we can't take this too seriously considering it's a low-budget sequel to The Emporer's New Groove.

I loved the Emperors New Groove, and I thought it didn't need a sequel. But back in the age of horrible direct-to-video Disney sequels (1998-2006), they decided to make a completely lackluster and lazy sequel to the Emperors New Groove. I liked Kronk in the original, but I didn't think he had enough character to have a movie completely focus on him. All in all, just don't watch this, or any Disney sequel for that matter.

14 The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar

This isn't really a sequel. It's more of a spin-off, but yeah, it is definitely a punch in the face to the fans of The Lion King, ruining old characters and putting in new, annoying characters. Even the name makes me cringe.

This sucks on many levels, especially Bunga and the new hyena trio.

The Lion Guard is awesome and I'm in sixth grade.

15 The Lion King II: Simba's Pride

Oh be realistic here, it's not good but at least both the animation & the story are decent. Just lighten up a bit, even the lioness is voiced by Neve Campbell, the woman from Scream.

By far the worst Disney sequel.

To be honest this is my favorite sequel
The story is actually pretty good

16 The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning

Looking back, all 3 of these movies are utterly cringeworthy to say the least, but this one is the worst.

Better than number 2

17 Bambi II

This sequel came out 64 years after the original. That's a huge gap. All the voice actors had to be replaced. Bambi is voiced by Alexander Gould who played Nemo in Finding Nemo. I should also point out that this takes place in the middle of the original film. So it's a midquel. A lot of people consider this to be one of the better Disney sequels. I don't. This is probably because I wasn't a fan of the first one. I'm not saying it was bad, just not that good. Especially the part where it goes from Bambi's mother's death to happy singing birds. This sequel isn't any better. In fact, it's worse. I don't see myself ever watching this again.

Eh its okay in my opinion!

18 Cinderella III: A Twist in Time

No, this was actually pretty great, especially compared to the lacklustre mess the second movie was. It's not really a "real" sequel, but it's a good alternate ending

Its not bad. Its actually better than the 1st one.

No! Every single thing you said you got backwards!

19 Tarzan & Jane

I couldn't stand to watch this movie. I don't know why, exactly.

Schaffrillas is going to hate this movie almost as much as Hunchback II and Belle's Magical World. I just know it!

20 The Jungle Book 2

I didn't like it, but I did like one scene: Where the little kid smacks kaa repeatedly with a bat, into a rock, as kaa accidentally swallows the rock. It's funny!

21 Aladdin: The Return of Jafar

While the animation is cheap, the script is weak and the story makes me want to slit my throat, the villain song, "You're Only Second Rate" will always be the only good thing from this movie.

I used to be obsessed with this sequel when I was younger. This film and the original Aladdin are pretty much the only Disney films I still like to watch occasionally.

Why Disney make this movie? And why Jaffar is still alive and return after Aladdin became a hero in Agrabah? What is this, Prince of Persia 2 : The Shadow And The Flame, made one year before this?

22 Cars 2

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure this was released in theatres.

23 Brother Bear 2

The only Direct-to-Video Disney Sequel to have a higher score on Rotten Tomatoes than the original. While it's still mediocre as a movie, this definitely says something about the original Brother Bear.

One of two direct-to-video Disney sequels that are worthy of being part of the Disney Animated Canon, the other being The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride.

Nobody asked for this

24 Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas
25 Tarzan II

It was released directly to video in the U.S.

Didn't this come out in theatres?

This is such a boring movie.
