Top 10 Worst US States to Live In

These are the ten worst U.S. states to live in. If you ever consider moving to the U.S., avoid these states. Trust me.
The Top Ten
1 New Jersey New Jersey is a state in the northeastern and mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. It is bordered on the north and east by New York, on the southeast and south by the Atlantic Ocean, on the west by Pennsylvania, and on the southwest by Delaware.

JDL too, with 40 hate groups most in Bergen County and many neo-Nazi and reverse hate groups. There have been ISIS and al-Qaeda arrests, and the FBI targets Hackensack schools to stop ISIS infiltration and videos (search the Web). There are regular bomb threats to schools and Bergen County Courthouse against the worst judges in the US (leave schools out of it!). The corruption includes 40 arrested, including 3 mayors, several assistant mayors, 5 rabbis, and selling body parts. Bergen County police almost killed a State Police officer who came to help people from them on State Highway, which you can find on YouTube. To be caught in the middle of all that hate is not a good place to be, and it starts young in NJ schools. All those office posts saying 'it's such a nice place with nice schools' are getting old. Christie is disliked even more than the last NJ governors, even though they set historic lows in the polls. 80% think Christie doesn't care about them because the other 20% KNOW Christie doesn't care about them.

2 Mississippi Mississippi is a southern U.S. state with the Mississippi River to its west, the state of Alabama to its east, and the Gulf of Mexico to the south.

Ok, I live in Rhode Island, and we drove through here on our way to New Orleans. So, as you know, Rhode Island (and most of the Northeast for that matter) have some old factories, but dang, this was really bad. We drove through Jackson, and the only things we saw were smog, homeless people, and white people beating up black people. Come on! This is pathetic...

Why do we even have to question this? Not only does this state have a Confederate flag on their state flag, but they also voted overwhelmingly to keep it. Not to mention, just like every other southern state, Mississippi is full of racist, homophobic, transphobic, idiot rednecks.

3 Louisiana

This place sucks! I was there on a family vacation one time, and I was nearly killed by a gang member patrolling the streets. I had to be helped out of a swamp, a swamp. The only food they had there was a crocodile burnt to death. Therefore, I'm rating this steaming dump of a place -100,658,932/10.

It's no wonder they're a poor state! They have outrageous state taxes, and the money obviously doesn't go toward fixing roads. Coming here is like you took a big step back in time.

High crime rate, high taxes, too hot, and hardly anything to do. It's the 2nd least friendly state for children and is only getting worse.

4 Arkansas Arkansas is a state located in the Southeastern region of the United States. Its name is of Siouan derivation, denoting the Quapaw Indians.

I live here, and I hate it. The amount of rednecks and poverty is high. Also, the humidity is unbearable. There is absolutely nothing to do at all. No theme parks, no beaches, no mountains, no forests, nothing. Little Rock is full of murder and crime, and it's severely ghetto. Finally, Arkansas is extremely depressed.

Just a terrible place. Worst education, tons of racism, tons of hypocritical religious nuts, highest divorce rate, high poverty rate, and THE highest rate of obesity in the U.S.

A boring rural patch of nature, high poverty, populated by white trash. Worst place to rent in the USA. Bad thunderstorms and cold, icy springs, and winters.

5 Alabama Alabama is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. It is bordered by Tennessee to the north, Georgia to the east, Florida and the Gulf of Mexico to the south, and Mississippi to the west.

Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana - That whole area is one big piece of crap. Georgia might be okay, but the rest is full of crime, pollution, and ugliness.

Alabama is redneck, dirty, ugly, and you're lucky if you see people wearing shoes. There is nothing to do.

This state is known for incest and all that. And even Sweet Home Alabama was a thing. Let's hope the FBI will arrest the whole state.

6 Texas Texas is a state in the Southern USA. It is the second largest by area and population. Its largest city is Houston.

I'll tell you, from experience because I've lived here all my life, that this is a place to pass up. There are a few nice things about this state, but they are overshadowed by the bad. It is way too hot, a growing number of people can't speak a word of English yet expect you to learn Spanish to accommodate them, you can't buy alcohol at certain times, and the drivers are some of the worst. Dallas and other areas are quickly turning into ghetto trash bags, and this state refuses to change for the better. I can't wait to move.

7 Oklahoma

Oklahoma is full of inconsiderate idiots. You can see it in how we treat each other, in how we drive, and in our politicians. Only in Oklahoma does Mary Fallin get elected twice! We can't pass education reform, but we can fight all day about religious monuments on the capitol grounds. I've been able to travel all over the US, and no place sucks as much as Oklahoma. Don't believe me? Visit once and find out! It doesn't matter if you pick the smallest town or OKC or Tulsa, the rest of the US should build a wall around it and let the purge happen.

8 Arizona Arizona is a U.S. state in the southwestern region of the United States. It is also part of the Western and the Mountain states.

Desert wasteland, TOO hot, nothing to do, sparsely populated, and unfriendly racist people. Scored horribly on many lists of US state living.

There's Phoenix, and the rest is a boring, rural wasteland and desert, except for maybe the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam or something.

Arizona is too hot, the schools are terrible, and there is nothing to do. The level of poverty is overwhelming.

9 Illinois Illinois is a state in the midwestern region of the United States. It is the 5th most populous state and 25th largest state in terms of land area, and is often noted as a microcosm of the entire country.

Chicago basically runs the entire state politically and financially. It will always vote for the Democrat in presidential elections because Chicago's population outnumbers the rest of the state combined. Absurd taxes, the insatiable teachers' union of CPS that blames the inefficiency of their crappy schools on not having enough money, laughable corruption, ridiculous amounts of gang violence, etc. If current trends continue, Illinois will be economically ruined thanks to Chicago.

10 Tennessee Tennessee is a state located in the southeastern United States. Tennessee is the 36th largest and the 17th most populous of the 50 United States.

I've been to a gas station in downtown Memphis that sold hitching posts made to look like a guy in blackface holding a ring. Even without talking to anyone, the racism can't be ignored.

Where do I start? Rednecks, poverty, heat, the 2nd most dangerous state next to Louisiana, and one of the worst-governed states next to California.

The Contenders
11 Ohio Ohio is a state in the midwestern region of the United States. Ohio is the 34th largest by area, the 7th most populous, and the 10th most densely populated of the 50 United States.

I've had the misfortune of living in this open-air dump called Ohio all my life. The job market sucks, as does the weather. The politicians are greedy and incompetent, and the people are worthless, fat, ugly, inbred trash of all colors. They should rename it Blowhio.

Boring as hell and the weather is so wacky here. Come here if you want to experience all seasons at once.

Most depressing state ever. If you like clouds, ugly scenery, and vitamin D deficiency, then this is the place for you!

12 New Mexico

JUST LIKE Mexico. Corrupt government, police force, high crime rate, and least kid-friendly state is enough to put New Mexico on the list for sure.

I would move here if there was less crime and no nuclear weapons.

13 California California is a state in the Southwestern United States. With 39.6 million residents across a total area of about 163,696 square miles (423,970 square kilometers), California is the most populous U.S. state and the third-largest by area. The state capital is Sacramento, and the largest city is Los Angeles... read more

I've only visited California once, but that was enough for me. It's truly the worst U.S. state! There are too many young families and gangsters around here. Everyone is the same. They all dress urban, and the women all have blonde hair and a small child in a stroller. The valley girl accent is the worst accent ever! Californians are so arrogant. Everyone there is a stereotype. There are too many creeps on the streets too.

I was in a "nice" part of California too (on vacation in Anaheim) and I still hated it. I don't see how anyone can like this materialistic, overpriced, bad state. It used to be the best state in the country, but that was before the hippies took over. California, I HATE YOU!

14 Florida Florida is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. Florida is the southeasternmost U.S. state, with the Atlantic on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other.

Florida as a travel destination (in the fall or winter)? Great! To live? OH HELL NO! Humidity and storms, the worst education system, the worst people (rednecks and old people), flat terrain, lots of crime and poverty...who would want to live here?

Florida's like paradise, it's got 20-foot snakes, 15-foot alligators, mosquitoes the size of sparrows, flying cockroaches the size of pigeons, and the ocean is swarming with sharks. There are also the hurricanes.
Never mind.

South Florida is really the only bad part of Florida. Most of the people here are extremely mean and rude (besides, there are lots of old people. Teenagers here are the worst). In addition, Miami is extremely ghetto, and the beaches here aren't really that nice. The culture is terrible too...

(tl;dr: nearly everything about South Florida is bad. However, Central Florida and North Florida are okay, in my opinion.)

15 Nevada Nevada is a state in the Western, Mountain West, and Southwestern regions of the United States of America.

Really gets old living here after a while.

16 Alaska Alaska is a U.S. state situated in the northwest extremity of the Americas. The Canadian administrative divisions of British Columbia and Yukon border the state to the east; it has a maritime border with Russia to the west across the Bering Strait.

Alaska is a beautiful state with the northern lights and is very wealthy in natural resources, but it also has a very high crime and suicide rate. So, it's not a great place to live, but it's definitely a great state to visit.

Lots of personal space in the summer - not many people live there. But in the winter, you'll be under several feet of snow.

You also gave us Sarah Palin. Sorry that you live there, but your state deserves it just for that.

17 West Virginia West Virginia is a state located in the Appalachian region of the Southern United States. It is bordered by Pennsylvania to the north, Maryland to the east and northeast, Virginia to the southeast, Kentucky to the southwest, and Ohio to the northwest. West Virginia is the 41st largest state by area,... read more

This is my state, and yep, it is extremely depressing. There is nothing to do. It's just like a wasteland. I will leave as soon as I can.

How is this not in the top ten? It's literally collapsing!

18 Kentucky Kentucky, officially the Commonwealth of Kentucky, is a state located in the east south-central region of the United States.
19 Wyoming Wyoming is a state in the mountain region of the Western United States. The state is the tenth largest by area, but the least populous and the second least densely populated of the 50 United States.

Just like Montana, just not as pretty and even more boring.

20 Wisconsin Wisconsin is a U.S. state located in the north-central United States, in the Midwest and Great Lakes regions.

Wisconsin still has nice spots, but Walker has definitely hurt the education system and work environment. Their SAT scores went from the 2nd highest in the nation to 41st in one year! They are losing jobs at an alarming rate.

Literally referred to as "The Frozen Tundra".

21 Maryland Maryland is a state located in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States, bordering Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Washington, D.C.

I live in Maryland, and I have to agree. Crimes are committed. Why do you think we have a lot more shootings (not only school shootings) in MD?

The bull education system! Crimes committed by school executives, high taxes on the middle class, terrible drivers, wannabe teenagers, I can go on! The only upside is the breathtaking sunsets! I'd rather live in Kentucky than have to put up with Maryland's bull!

All those troubles can be blamed on Washington D.C.

22 Utah Utah is a state in the western United States. It became the 45th state admitted to the Union on January 4, 1896. Utah is the 13th-largest, the 31st-most populous, and the 10th-least-densely populated of the 50 United States.

Oh, come on! What can you call a state that is unwelcoming to outsiders, especially those of other religious beliefs, be it atheist or Southern Baptist, and has very strict alcohol laws?

Too many Mormons. I'm a Christian and wouldn't want to be surrounded by those people. No offense.

It's just a less populated version of Colorado.

23 Georgia Georgia is a state located in the southeastern United States. It was established in 1732, the last of the original Thirteen Colonies.

I live here. It is a hellhole. I was born in Boston, by the way. I miss Massachusetts. Georgia sucks.

Georgia is overrated. Crime has gotten bad since a lot of people come from out of town. Every time you turn on the news, there's crime. If you move here, don't stay in downtown Atlanta. The school system sucks.

24 New York New York is a state located in the Mid-Atlantic Region. New York was one of the original thirteen colonies that formed the United States. With an estimated 19.54 million residents in 2018, it is the fourth most populous state. In order to distinguish the state from the city with the same name, it is... read more

Upstate New York is beautiful, offering a variety of activities throughout the year from skiing to boating, hunting to fishing, and many historical sites and camping too. And sure, we might have some snowy days here. But there are also days during the midst of winter where we may be warmer than parts of Florida.

Sadly, a government that dictates against the opinion and best interests of the public and financially oppresses the working people and businesses of the state seems to ruin all the advantages we have. Nothing in this state escapes from a tax, fee, surcharge, or some other name devised to extort money from your pocket.

25 Hawaii Hawaii is the 50th and most recent state of the United States of America, receiving statehood on August 21, 1959.

It's beautiful. My wife and I honeymooned there. Loved visiting there, not so sure I'd want to live there. It's so far away from everything! Also, it's very expensive, and many places are tourist traps. That said, Hawaii's positives are pretty obvious. Plus, the people were super-friendly (we were on Maui)...

There are spots to avoid. Those places are Waianae, Wahiawa, and Makaha. There are some more to name, like Honolulu if you're super impatient. Then, there are awesome places like the northern side of Oahu, and other places in the competition. There is one massive problem, it's always expensive here. Trust me, I'm a local from Hawaii.
