The Top Ten
1 Illuminate (The Gilded Wings Series) by Aimee Agresti

I LOVED this book! It had action, romance, horror and had a few parts in it that were creepy and strange...

Plot summary: The series is about 16 year old Haven Terra who has been accepted into an internship at a fancy posh Chicago hotel and works among strangers her age who are drop dead gorgeous and flawless. She also meets Aurelia Brown; her second in command, as well as handsome Lucian Grove who immediately takes her breath away while stealing her heart in the process. She also comes across the hotel staff which is called 'The Outfit. '
As Haven begins to fall in love with Lucian she discovers that the beautiful people who walk among her are not who they claim to be... With the help of a strange yet creepy book she uncovers the sinister plans of Aurelia and 'The Outfit' where they plan to buy the souls of the residents and hotel workers. Will they succeed in luring Haven into their trap which will force her to help collect the souls and sell them to the demons.

2 Wither (The Chemical Garden Trilogy) by Lauren DeStefano

I loved this series. So much imagery with the mansion, crowds, and twisted carnival that I would love to see on the big screen. There's a lot of mystery and darkness and suspense that I completely love and would do well in a movie.
Either this one or hex hall would be awesome in a movie.

3 Hex Hall (Book 1) by Rachel Hawkins

The Hex Hall series is cute, romantic, dangerous, and just down right pee your pants funny! Hawkins delivers just the perfect amount of humor as well as a few (not a lot) but a few action scenes! Although some of the books have a some mature scenes (For example, in the first book Sophia, the main character gets possessed by her best friend which is a ghost and forced her to go on tongue to tongue action with her boyfriend which Sophia calls 'really going at it' and kind of straddles him in the French kissing process)

4 Unearthly (Unearthly Book 1) by Cynthia Hand

I love how Clara falls for Christian NOT just because of his hotness or his sparkles or his sexiness. Instead before she decides that she DOES in fact love him she starts out talking to him about simple normal stuff then the more they talk the more they connect! Pretty much the way normal humans fall in love today... Well most of them...

Plot summary: In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees...
Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.

Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place and out of place ...more

5 Article 5 (Article 5 Book 1) by Kristen Simmons

OHMEHGERD! I LOVED THIS SERIES! (3rd book comes out in 2014). The action is amazing and incredibly exciting! The cliff hangers make me want to bash my head against a wall, fall to my knees dramatically look up to the heavens and scream "WHY," as well as pull all of my hair out! The romance was PERFECT! I loved how it could be romantic yet not in the mushy gushy kind of way... This is one of my fave dystopian/action series!

6 Need (Need Book 1) by Carrie Jones

The romance between Zara and Nick is adorable! I love how sweet and protective of Zara Nick can be! It has very little action though... I thought it was cute and clever how Carrie named the chapters after real AND made up phobias and thought that it was very creative!

Plot summary: Pain shoots through my head. Fireworks. Explosions. All inside my brain. The white world goes dark and I know what's about to happen.

Zara White suspects there's a freaky guy semi-stalking her. She's also obsessed with phobias. And it's true, she hasn't exactly been herself since her stepfather died. But exiling her to shivery Maine to live with her grandmother? That seems a bit extreme. The move is supposed to help her stay sane... But Zara's pretty sure her mom just can't deal with her right now.

She couldn't be more wrong. Turns out the semi-stalker is not a figment of Zara's overactive imagination. In fact, he's still following her, leaving behind an eerie trail of gold dust. ...more

This is amazing and has elements of everything in it but I would say it is around a 15 because it is very gory.
