The Top Ten
1 Rosalina Rosalina, known as Rosetta in Japan, is a major character in the Mario Franchise created by Nintendo. She first appeared in the 2007 Mario Game, Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Wii and later returned for the game's sequel in 2010. Since then, she has been featured in many main-series Mario Games and many spinoffs. She has appeared as a playable character in Super Mario 3D World for the Nintendo Wii U in 2013 and is a playable character in the Mario Kart series and Mario Party series. She also has come into Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS as a part of the large character roster.

By far a fan favorite. Some even call her overrated, but Rosalina is really the only Mario princess who isn't a damsel in distress. Surely that makes her special, along with the fact that she is smart and courageous.

2 Mario Mario, originally named Jumpman, is the main character of the Super Mario Bros. franchise, created by the creative director and video game designer at Nintendo of Japan, Shigeru Miyamoto. Mario has appeared in almost every Mario game, including games in spin-off series as a playable character, with few exceptions including New Super Luigi U, Luigi's Mansion games, Yoshi's Island games, and similar counterparts. He is the most iconic character in video game history and is Nintendo's unofficial mascot. His franchise has grown to be the most successful video game franchise of all time.

Of course, the main character is incredibly popular. Mario is worshipped as a hero by all, including some fans.

3 Wario Wario is a character in Nintendo's Mario series who was originally designed as an antagonist to Mario. His motives are driven by greed and he will take the side of whoever will give him the most pay. Although he may seem like just a mean man with no heart, he does have a very tragic past.

I... I don't know why... but for wah-tever (intentional pun) reason Wario is very popular among fans and is... er... put in some NSFW stuff... I just don't know anymore...

4 Luigi Luigi, originally a palette swap of Mario named Green Mario, is a major character featured in video games and related media released by Nintendo. Created by prominent game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, Luigi is portrayed as the slightly younger, taller fraternal twin brother of Nintendo's unofficial mascot Mario, and appears in many games throughout the Super Mario franchise, often as a sidekick to his brother.

The little green man famous for his high jump is loved by all. He is particularly popular for being shunned be Mario in most all games except the Luigi's Mansion series.

5 Pauline Pauline, also known as Daniella Verducci, is the original damsel-in-distress whom Mario must rescue from the eponymous ape in the original Donkey Kong.

Nobody really cared about Pauline except for when Super Mario Odyessey came out, and the fans are OBSESSED. For reals. After all, she does sing the iconic song "Jump Up, Super Star". God, have you seen some of the new controversy memes? When I say obsessed, I mean it.

6 Peach Princess Peach is a major character in the Mario Bros. Franchise. She is the lead female of the The Mario franchise. She is usually the character who needs saved in most Mario Games, but also has appeared as a playable character in the Main-Series Mario Games, including Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Run, and even starred in her own game, Super Princess Peach for the Nintendo DS. She has appeared in many spinoff series, too, including Mario and Sonic Olympic Games, the Mario Kart series, the Mario Party series, Mario Sports Games, the Super Smash Bros. Series, and many more.

Princess Peach, aka Toadstool is a popular character due to being a playable character in some more recent Mario titles such as Super Mario 3D World. (One of my favorite games! ) Though she's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but people love her.

7 Bowser Bowser is the main antagonist of the Mario Bros. Franchise. From kidnapping Princess Peach to simply destroying a fun game between Mario and Friends in the Mario Party spinoff series, this king of the Koopas has set up a certain hatred towards himself amongst the large cast of Mario Characters. He first appeared in the 1985 popular videogame, Super Mario Bros., in which he was responsible for kidnapping Princess Toadstool (more commonly known as Princess Peach), which was released in Arcades and on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Videogame System.

This dude. Yep, this dude. The famous bad guy who even makes an appearance in the movie Wreck-It-Ralph, Bowser. He actually had a wife, according to the wikia. He's constantly stealing Peach, and attempting to spite Mario. Unfortunately, like Wario, he's been a subject of some pretty NSFW stuff... the internet these days, seriously...

8 Yoshi Yoshi, once romanized as Yossy, is a fictional anthropomorphic dinosaur who appears in video games published by Nintendo. Often appearing as a sidekick and helper to Mario, Yoshi is most known for his appearances in the Yoshi's Island and the Super Mario franchises.

Our favorite! The green dinosaur, Yoshi! Yoshi is totally Mario's "steed" and has been in almost every Mario game since Super Paper Mario, even getting his own game! He's popular for constantly getting ditched by the player and just overall being cute, except in the live-action movie. He is LITERALLY A GREEN VELOCIRAPTOR. Oh, and also in the movie he gets stabbed by Wendy Koopa, who looks like a normal lady. (Weird! )

9 Dimentio Dimentio is an evil harlequin magician and the main antagonist of the 2007 Nintendo Wii video game known as "Super Paper Mario". One of his notable features is that he has created his own Dimension, known as Dimension D.

You may not have heard of him, but those who do ADORE him. Dimentio makes his only appearance in Super Paper Mario, which is totally the most underrated video game in history. Dimentio is an absolute jerk who is constantly messing with you throughout the game. He is <Spoilers! > the true final boss of the game. People just love him for some reason. I hate him.

10 Broodals

These anthromorphic rabbit-like dudes act as Bowser's wedding planners in Super Mario Odyessy, the newest game in the franchise. People claim they're better than the Koopalings, but I can't say I agree. They, of course, are adored by the fans and have inspired a TON of fanart. Just look it up, seriously.
