Reasons Why The Walking Dead Season 8 Sucks

I am a huge fan of The Walking Dead, It's one of my favourite shows and I can't wait for season 9, however the show's 8th season was a complete train-wreck in my opinion.
Also SPOILERS!

The Top Ten
1 The Dialogue Was Terrible

Almost all dialogue in season 8 was made to sound like a Shakespearean monologue or exposition on the characters feelings/emotions instead of the performances of the actors to convey it to the audience.
The dialogue was cheesy, laughable, exposition filled nonsense and stuff no humans would say, even in the apocalypse.

2 The Rick and Negan/Saviour Tension Was No Where

For all the faults season 7 had, when Rick stood up to Negan in the finale- it was intense and earned, in season 8, the war between Rick and the Saviours is the all out war main point, however the Rick and Negan tension was lacking, instead of having any sense of weight, depth or development that would make it intense and intriguing, it's just the both of them telling each other that they're gonna kill each other again and again, until they don't. The Rick And Negan conflict could've been a powerful storyline between 2 leaderships but it was wasted.
Negans character is never explored in depth either, his past and ideologies and beliefs are said and skimmed but never explored which was a shame.

Rick could have made a speech to negan, instead of talking about carl. I still liked the slashed throat but that reaction was so overly bad and cringey that it didn't really make a whole lot of sense for me.Only some episodes this season I liked where The Key,Worth and Some guy.

3 The Ending Was Not Earned

Rick Through Season 7/8: I'm Gonna Kill You
Season 8 Finale Rick: Save Him

I didn't mind rick saving Negan, but it didn't feel earned, it was rushed and made Carls stupid death seem more like a rash plot device to get Rick to save Negan, but I don't buy it and it was really rushed.
(However Maggie's reaction was great)

4 Carl's Death

Like the season's ending, I didn't mind Carl dying, in fact I think it should've made for a powerful arc for Rick and Negan in the 2nd half of the season, but nope Carl dies a dumb horror characters death that I don't buy for one second then left it on a cliffhanger, which was a stupid decision and then 3 months later the entire episode was dedicated to Carl's death, which should've been emotional but instead was confusing and boring. They could've explored the idea of Rick losing his main purpose to fight and explored more of Carls/Negans relationship so the tension between the two could've been there, the war and actions of Rick and Negan should've directly caused Carls death which would make the ending make more sense.
Instead it was a boring, wasted and confusing decision and the character who Carl dies for only gets like less than 5 minutes of screen time.
To give credit where it's due, Andrew Lincoln gave an incredible performance during Carl's death.

5 The Characters are Idiots, Filled with Angsts and Boring.

Michonne sneaks up on the saviours but steps on a tennis ball and it rolls. Stupid.
Daryl is the worst example he sucked this season, after suffering in season 7 and filled with guilt because of his hot hotheadedness decisions. He becomes a hothead in this season and ruins the plan which would've worked, I don't know how to explain but it was idiotic- why does no one stick with the plan that was working.
Daryl is awesome but in season 8 he was a terrible character.
Maggie was just annoying and was angst like a sexually frustrated child
Carl gets a new love for humanity out of nowhere and dies for some random strangers mothers beliefs? What?
Jesus is awesome but my God was he BORING and Annoying this season
The Saviour in the Hilltop- yawn.
Henry is one of the worst characters out of any show ever, I want him to die a horrible death in season 9.
Rick just makes rash decision without an arc.

The characters this season completely betray their arcs of the ...more

6 Forced, Civil War?

The Daryl and Rick fight felt so out of place ad I didn't buy it, it was so forced.
Then there's the Maggie, Jesus and Daryl scene in the ending, what, if season 9 ignored this scene that would be great- Jesus shoved down our throats with no killing this entire season- Lets kill Negan
It felt like a 1960's supervillain table stuff.
The attempts of setting up a Civil War feels so forced and shoehorned and betrays the characters and makes them look dumb and cheesy.

7 The Moral Dilemma Has Been Done to Death in the Show

Season 2/5/6 spun the kill or no kill idea brilliantly and engagingly ways

Season 8 was just basic with no depth and rather annoyance with Jesus

Season 2- (best season in my opinion)- Rick and Shane kill or not kill conflict was powerful and intriguing
Season 5- kill or not kill conflict was fascinating in Alexandria.
Season 6- moral dilemma had real depth with Morgan and Not Tomorrow Yet episode.

Season 8-guy attacks Jesus twice and gets knocked out by Tara- Jesus logic: he surrendered, we can't kill the people who will kill and are a threat to us. This 'moral' dilemma has been done to death in this series and it's so boring to have to slump through it again after the show's proved that the reality is to kill.
How about explore the dilemma of War and survival in the post apocalypse and how Rick needs and likes the survival (like punisher or breaking bad with walt and the meth) or anything that hasn't been done to death already and in season 5 and 6, the dilemma was spun in different manners which made it interesting with the characters- season 8 = basic and bland,

8 Morgan's Exit

Morgan's crazy
At the end with Jadis is fine.
We don't say a goodbye between Rick and Carol for Morgan but his final scene is with Jadis. And now since Andrew is leaving we'll never see them again.
Great job writers.

9 The Action Was Bland and Awful

Just a bunch of gunshots and terribly filmed fights between Negan and Rick.

Season 4: Governors and Rick's fight was adrenaline fuelled, brutal and filled with emotions along with the prison battle.
None of that is found In the All Out War, it looked like Negan and Rick were hugging for most of the finale and the lighting was too dark and there was nothing fuelling the fights, I just didn't care, the shootouts were bland and droned on for too long.

10 Shock Value Over Storytelling

The return of Morales should've been one of the main driving forces of Season 8, seeing these 2 completely different people than when they met each other in season 1 had the potential to be on the shows best story-line but nope he dies, why- because of shock values and rating, same as Carls drawn out and stupid death (plus what is it with drawn out death, Aarons boyfriends death was boring).
Daryl vs Rick was done just for shock value and it felt like 2 old married couples doing wwe.
Also the Oceansiders pay off was a second of them throwing flames at... something- what?
