Top Cases of Bad Performances in Good Films
Obviously my tastes may not come close to lining up with yours, but hopefully there's some common ground here.Interesting true story with plenty of good performances, but Seales is one of the worst actors I've ever seen. He gives a distractingly bad performance whereby his voice somehow seems to belong to someone else and just puts you off. He's also as subtle as Eric Roberts at his most mannered.
I've said before in my Worst Cases of Miscasting list that Robards was an excellent actor of stage and screen, but Shakespeare just wasn't his thing. He's a walking stiff in this, surrounded by an otherwise excellent cast.
So equally miscast and terrible in the same film I had to list them together. Rickman at least tries to convince as Reagan, but as LBJ Cusack (who similarly put no effort in playing Brian Wilson in "Love and Mercy") puts in the bare minimum. They both stand out like sore thumbs.
One of the most disinterested and illusion-shattering performances you'll ever see. Shame, I actually liked Tim Burton's vision here.
Strong film with a great cast, but Moore is a cold fish who doesn't sell the character's change of heart at all. She also has two unintentionally comedic moments, one involving a lewd confession that should never have made through the second draft.
The most controversial entry. Yes, she won an Oscar for it, and she was the least deserving member of the entire cast. She's always been a weak and mousy actress and she's pretty bland here. I don't get it.
An underrated film but Jolie is miscast and unconvincing.
It's a solid film but Farrow never convinces for a second, nor is she even funny.
The one weak link and sadly she's the female lead. It's a big deal. Classic film, though.
Stiff as a board in a crucial role. He gets out-acted by everyone else.
